The New York Shade #3

Immortal Magic

Rate this book
The New York Shade is completely invisible to humans, because humans can't see magic. That's how it was supposed to be.

But when a powerful spell is unleashed outside of the Shade, nobody knows where it came from or who made it. Nobody except Damian Reed.

I'll admit that using my Talent on one of my best friends might not have been one of my smarter decisions, but it all goes to hell when the same people who spelled the humans almost kill her.

Now, if I don't find what they took, the chances that my best friend goes to jail for life and I die, increase by the second. Unfortunately for me, the only person who can help me is Damian.

Working with him always ends up in a disaster but Malin's freedom is on the line this time. I'll do what it takes to make sure the Guild never finds out about what we did. But the more time I spend with Damian, the easier it gets to convince myself that we could make it work. I just hope I can make sure that Malin doesn't go to jail first, before it all comes crashing down on me again.

Get together already!

I am done with this series, I can only take so much breaking up and getting back together. All the miss communication. I can't take it. I'm out.

Okay/aggravated

I have been loving this series except for one thing. COMMUNICATION between the MC and the love interest is 0% from the first chapter they meet in book one. Like seriously? Why can’t they talk to each other instead of this circle of miscommunication?? This is why marriages fail!! Communication is key!! I get it for plot intrigue but this is a whole nother level. I’m completely frustrated. Other than that the rest of the book was good.

Damien is asked to help a friend. Damien doesn't realize just how deep she is in. Sin is a drawn into this, because her friend was attacked. Damien and Sin will work together to find and stop these group of people from their plans.
Sin and Damien need to talk about what she really is, what that means for her. Sin is to stubborn to ask him. Sin will be put in a position where she will have to use her magic and hope for the best. Sin will do whatever she can to keep those in her life safe.

This book was fast paced, well written and grabs you from the start. You have two characters that can't seem to talk to each other. They get closer but something terrible happens. Sin is also dealing with her new team members, especially Carter. There is something that is happening at every turn. I gave a brief idea of what is happening, I didn't want to give anything away. This author has woven a great story that gives something for everyone to enjoy. I am anxiously waiting for the next one, really can't wait to see what happens next.

Rcvd an advanced reader copy for giving my two cents. A riveting read and finished in one sitting. DN's books reals you in until the book is finished wanting more.
We start with some weird magic where humans can see the Shade. Then Sin's bff Malin wants her to use her talent to unbind her powers because she doesn't feel whole. Reluctantly Sin agrees and with the help of thr 3rd bff Jamie they perform the magic to do so. Not long after a surge of magic is felt and Sin finds out a vampire made her bff use her necromancer magic to bring forth a soul. Damian has a visit from an old friend, a wolf named Nikola bc his vamp mate Helen disappeared and he followed her trail to NY Shade and needs Dams help. Smtg is going down in the Shade and it isnublike Helen to leave Nik without telling him. Sin is now on the hunt for the vamp that hurt her friend but lowandbehold Damian is right there in thr thick of it...sheesh! Things go from bad to worse and it involves a soul summoning spell....but what for? Drama, intrigue, lies and illegal magic makes this book a must read.

Sin agreed to to help her best friend get something pack that had been taken from her by the Guild. Little did she know that her gift would cause her friend to be forced to perform magic that could kill her. Damien's old friend, werewolf, has come to him for help in finding his mate, and much to Damien's dismay Sin will be in the middle of another dangerous quest for magical bad guys.
Well written, compelling characters with quirky personalities and believable interactions. Wow, another action packed read with plenty of magic, exciting battles with swords, and lots of spells flying. Fantastic!

This is another great part of a wonderfully great series. Sin and her bounty hunting team are great together. We get a new addition to the Bane as Sin tries to do her thing and not obsess over Damien. There are some great things happening and great surprises in this book. The ending left me wanting the next book really bad. I found this to be another UF read and I highly recommend it. No spoilers here.
I received an ARC from the author and I am leaving this Totally Honest Review because I choose to and I Loved this book! Happy Reading!!!

Sin is working well with her new team. Damien steps in at the most inopportune times while she is working and Sin gets so frustrated it makes me laugh. She agrees to help Damien find his friend’s wife. The two of them get closer as they work together. He’s still waiting for an apology from Sin for trying to kill him and Damien holds the key to what she is. Nonstop action in this book. The ending gutted me. But I am so ready for Sin and Damien to get together. Can’t wait for the next book.

Another fast paced adventure for sinea, her squirrel and the vampire Damian.
Mel is quickly stepping up her magic game and luckily Carter Conti hasn't disappeared completely.
But I must admit I get a bit bored with the repetitive plot: Sin & Damian are forced to work together although there is still some tension between them and as soon as this is solved, the book ends on another misunderstanding that makes Sin hate Damian...

This series has it all - action, suspense, romance, magic & magical creatures. Sin is a great lead - she is just trying to do what's best to protect herself & those she loves and it puts her in some tough circumstances. This ending has me eagerly waiting for the next book.

This story was great because Aunt Marie's fighting magic spells never let Sinatra down as she's going up against other characters. This is were it get a little hard for the team, some not all have their work cut out for them. The halls of walls with completely different ghouls, wizards and Helen.

Overall: 3/5

Plot and themes: 3/5

Characters: 3/5

Writing style: 3/5

Attention-grabbing: 4/5

Sin has unique magical gifts that puts her into unique magical situations... most of which include someone trying to arrest or kill her. She saved her best friend from a life time of magical dampening but at the expense of that friend's safety. Now, she has to figure out how to protect her, avoid Damian, and how this is all related to the Uprising.

This is the third book in the New York Shade series, and you'd think after having nearly three books together maybe Sin and Damian would know how to communicate with each other. But also if you thought that you're literally dead wrong because they would rather die than talk an issue out. The ending of this book is particularly frustrating cause like there is modern technology in this book so why can't we pick up phones and talk to people??? It seems so obvious yet is so difficult.

A decent addition, still a fun series to read. But these middle books are more frustrating than anything else from the romance perspective. A ton of backtracking and a truly circular narrative. The actual conflict is cool but could also use some more development. I don't hate it but it's not crazy unique.

This series is a Twilight and Kate Daniels bastard child, where the Cullens aren’t all vampires, and Miss Special Snowflake isn’t a worthless lump of helplessness.

I might be the minority here, but I cannot stand Damian. The first book he bites Sin without consent, asks for her trust while doing the dirty, then dumps her unconscious on the street like a bag of garbage without letting Sin get a word in of defense. While she and her brother are under threat from the Uprising. Classy. The next 2 books, he withholds information believing he knows best or that he is protecting people by keeping them ignorant, and disrespects Sin AND Moira by implying they need a male/him around to protect them.
And Sin’s reaction to him is just as infuriating. I despise the “I forgive all because your face is pretty” plot. Bitch please. Pull your head from your cunt and have some self respect. The ONLY thing that got me thru this book was I kept thinking, hoping, Sin would wake up from Damian’s thrall. Each situation where Damian’s manipulation was just under the surface I thought, “Please, let this be the time” But no. Maybe DN Hoxa will make a series for Carter. THAT I’d read

OK so story wise this is great, the world is well thought out, the characters are more developed (which is expected for book 3) and there is a clear plot line we are following. I like Sin and all the characters, especially Kit, just not Damian. I can't get behind a book that sells the idea that it's OK to keep going back to a guy that ghosts you. We see more of Damian's POV in this book but I don't think his character is developed enough for me to want to root for him. I'm team Carter all day long. I will read the last one because I have to know how it ends, I'm enjoying the story build up and want to see how they defeat the Uprising and how she comes out on top. I want to know how the story ends, I'm just not interested in the romance aspect of this story anymore.

Sin and company at it again

Another chapter in Sin's saga. The Shade comes to life a little more and Sin again is drawn into another mystery. This tale is more of an adventure in this magical part of New York but remains true to the characters and is a fun read. Readers will love the library and other new facets but there are no real answers, just a wild ride with the supernatural world hidden next door.

Good

Now that Sin and her friends realize that she is mor powerful than she thought, Malin wants Sin to help her get her magic back. Sin knows this is not a good idea, but she is talked into doing the spell. After Malin gets her magic back, she gets into trouble. One of Damian’s friends has lost his mate and wants Damian to help him find her. Damian and Sin teem up to find his friends mate and also uncover the strange magic that has been unleashed.

Good

When Sin takes the nullification off of her necromancer friend, she doesn’t realize it will lead to trouble, or that it will make her run in to the vampire Damien again.

This fast paced urban fantasy series just keeps getting better.
The setting is exotic and fascinating, the characters equally so, and it makes for an excellent evening’s entertainment.
With a tiny taste of romance, and lots of action, it’s sure to keep urban fantasy lovers returning for more.

Immortal Magic (The New York Shade, #3), my sixth read from author D.N. Hoxa. Non-stop action, a kick-ass heroine, what more can a reader ask for? I was given a Kindle copy of this book and I'm voluntarily reading & reviewing it because every great book needs reviews. I'll be reading more from this author! (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Good. Sorceress Sin, Joins a monster killing crew, discovers more about her powers and her besties, and still has the help of vampires (Damien) and werewolves (Carter) to take on the bad guys. Still unlucky in love.

Cliffhanger. Not a fan of cliffhangers like this. Storyline was otherwise good , but this type of cliffhanger annoys me...
