SOS #2

The Alpha's Unexpected Omega

Rate this book
An omega in need is difficult to resist.

In an attempt to protect a young omega under his protection from a deadly government plot, Alpha Maddox Angel has volunteered himself as a mate. He barely knows David Bridges, but since the day Maddox claimed the omega in front of government officials, a tenuous bond has formed between them. After spending years wanting to get away from his family's ranch, Maddox isn't sure he'll be able to settle down there with a mate—particularly not with an omega mate. No one knows much about alpha/omega relationships other than they are said to be highly sexually charged, and Maddox isn't eager to relinquish his control to his ruts.

David has lived his life hidden from the government trying to kill him. He never expects handsome, tattooed Maddox Angel—the man hired to keep him safe—to offer to mate him. Part of David is excited at the prospect, but another is afraid that no mating begun out of a sense of obligation can last.

The Alpha’s Unexpected Omega is the second book in the SOS omegaverse series, which contains ruts, heats, nesting, erotic customs, and general omegaverse kink wrapped up in sweet, passionate romance. It is recommended that book one, The Alpha’s Forbidden Omega, be read first.

Just as enjoyable as the first.

While the beginning between Maddox and David was rushed, for understandable reasons, I came to enjoy them as the story went on.

In this, it picks up basically from the end of the first. Maddox and David have to mate to save David from a worse fate with the government.

Once they mate, they head to Maddox's ranch out in the country, and settle into life there together, with Maddox's grandfather there as well.

There's still the government to contend with, and when they make a house call and try to do shady shit to David, Maddox isn't having it. By that time he feels highly protective of his omega, and David is just as attached as Maddox.

Soon after they leave, David finds out he's pregnant, and while they're happy, they both have insecurities to work through, especially David. He still worries that Maddox doesn't feel for him as he does for Maddox, because Maddox just did this at first to help David out. He couldn't possibly love David, right?

There's also the mystery of where Ben is as well, which eventually gets solved. But not before there's worry from David over where his best friend could be and if he's safe or not.

I kinda wish, after David and Maddox had left Carter and Jackson, that we had gotten to see more of Carter and Jackson than just through phone calls. Near the end, we see that they're gonna visit soon, but then they never do before this ends. I was bummed about that.

Jackson, who was so scared for his best friends last book, didn't go as soon as he could to see his best friend Ben once he popped up? Hmm, didn't feel right to me.

So there were a few niggles, but overall still an enjoyable mpreg romance for me. Once these two really started to gain a bond and connection with each other, the sex became even hotter too. I enjoyed their chemistry in those scenes.

Unfortunately, whenever the 3rd book comes out, I won't be reading, as it'll be MMM. But I enjoy this author alot and can't wait to read more mpreg from this author in the future 🥰

~ MM Omegaverse Mpreg Romance ~

2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣5️⃣
While this is decent for an Mpreg story, I didn't enjoy it as much the second read. I found much of it dull, and the many sex scenes too crude. The ending was the best part. I would have read the third book, but sadly, it looks like R.J. has stopped writing. 😢

★・・・・★・・・・★

In this world, omegas are mistreated. They're forced to register and sent to mate with alpha strangers, but then vanish without a trace. The Society for Omega Safety suspects the government is killing them but doesn't know why.

Jackson, David, and Ben are unregistered omegas who grew up together in a safe house. Jackson found his HEA in book one, and now it's David's turn. He moves to Alpha Maddox Angel's ranch, where the entire story takes place.

𝗠𝗖𝘀:
Maddox (31), who does investigative work on the side, was hired to find David. He then claims him to protect him from the government. Orphaned at 12 and with his grandfather injured in a hay baler accident, Maddox took on most of the ranch work. At the start, he feels stuck and unhappy there.

David (21) is an insecure omega who doubts Maddox's true feelings, believing he only cares because of their bond. Feeling useless and determined to contribute, he takes charge of cooking, gardening, caring for the chickens, and even learning to sew.

𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀:
🔹Angus (62), Maddox's wheelchair-bound grandfather, gave up on life after his wife's death. He improves after Ben arrives at the ranch.

🔹Colt (30's), an alpha helping at the ranch, assists Angus with his leg exercises. It's learned they have a secret relationship.

🔹Laura is a doctor who helps David during his pregnancy and delivery.

In a traumatic scene, two agents arrive to examine David. Maddox kicks them out. They may have been there to sterilize David.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗘𝗹𝘀𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀:
▪️ The MCs deal with relationship issues, and learn about their bond, like they can't be apart for long.
▪️ Some ranch work.
▪️ Lots of erotic sex.
▪️ Omegas and the government conspiracy are discussed. New info. is learned.
▪️ Omega Ben is found, preparing for book three.
▪️ David gets pregnant and has a baby boy.

🤢 𝗦𝗲𝘅 𝗦𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗲 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗽𝘁𝘀:
(The scenes were skimmed.)

► I could hear my precum dripping onto the bed and smell the sweetness of my tang.

► Maddox hammered me. He was growing tired, his aim messy. Instinctively, I began doing the work for him, thrusting onto his cock wantonly, my slippery tang making squishing noises behind our moans of pleasure. A harsh gasp of my name followed by the hot rush of release inside me told me Maddox had spilled his seed.

► My tissues automatically stretched to accommodate the alpha’s girth while still keeping a snug fit around his cock so as not to let any life-giving seed escape.

► Maddox’s balls lay soft and hot against my taint, and I could imagine them brimming full of the seed he was pumping into me.

► Maddox’s cock thickened even more inside me as he let out a long, low moan, and a hot rush coated my inner walls as he emptied his balls yet again.

For the first time, David felt truly secure and at peace, thanks to Maddox’s genuine love. As he thought of Ollie growing up on the ranch surrounded by family, he fervently hoped he wouldn't be an omega. He also hoped that the SOS would eventually bring justice to those harming omegas.

This made me feel all fuzzy and warm inside.
Words Mean Something Hug GIF - Words Mean Something Hug Comfort GIFs
Real life makes a comfort read a necessity at times.

Another alpha finds his omega, mates him and protects him. They fall in love and have a baby at the end.

I liked book 2 much more than the first one.
Maddox & David are so sweet together. 🤗 There are several steamy sex scenes. There's even a little of the mating ceremony. (Book 1 had nothing.)

A story arc continues about: finding out why omegas are so important, and what the government is secretly doing with them.

There's no third book in sight. 😭 I really wanted to read about: Angus (Maddox's grandfather), Colt (an alpha), and Ben (an omega).

This was a sweet and sexy read. I enjoyed David and Maddox growing closer and seeing their life on the ranch. David is such a sweetie, it was nice to get to know more about him in this book.

While this was a quick and enjoyable read, I don't think it was as good as the first book. Maybe my expectations were too high because I've been so looking forward to this book, but it just didn't hit the right notes for me as I hoped it would.

I'm also not really feeling the connection between Angus and Ben... though I am curious how Colt will fit into their dynamic... and I want answers for the many questions regarding the overarching plot of the treatment of omegas by the government... so I'm still curiously excited to read the next book in the series.

In this low-angst sequel, we get to see David and Maddox begin their new lives as mates on Maddox's family ranch. While there are a few problems, the book is more about their day-to-day lives and the progression of their relationship. Other supporting family and friends characters are also introduced. The overarching question of what is happening to all of the omegas and possible government interference is still left hanging and book 3 in the series seems to be a "big question mark" at the author's website. This book is a nice, feel-good romance that I really enjoyed.

ATTENTION: Before you read this book you need to have a good idea of the events of The Alpha's Forbidden Omega, therefore for anyone who needs it - here is a handy dandy summary of the book under the spoiler tag.

I read the first book in this series in January of 2019 and it's literally been ages since then. I truthfully only had a better-than-vague idea about the events of the first book when I started this one.

I am the kind of person who reads series out of order and generally when I am following a series that is ongoing, I just jump into the newest release and therefore, that's what I did with this one. All this to say, that I can handle not being fully aware of what's going on from the get-go because in almost all instances over the course of a book you generally get a good grasp of what is happening and even why it's happening and I can generally wait till that happens. Not so with this one.

The first 30% of this book was sheer torture because I had no idea what these people were talking about, I literally considered DNFing the book and coming back at a later date when I had the time to re-read the first book, but I knew DNFing this book would mean that I would ultimately choose to wait till the entire series was out and I really didn't want to wait that long, so I kept up with it. Only to come to the conclusion that I should probably skim the first book to have a better idea of what the hell is going on. So, I did that and wrote the summary above to help me along the way. As my luck would have it, the moment when things become clear comes just after the 30% mark.

I feel like the reason the beginning of the book was making little sense to me was because the things I remembered from the first book were clashing with the things I was being told in this one and that confused me way too much. In fact, on reading my review of the first book, I realised I was so completely enamoured with the romance between Carter and Jackson that I gave the book very little credit for having such an elaborate plot.

From then on things were way better and I finished this story pretty fast from then on. I love this author's writing because it flows together really well.

This book follows Maddox and David as they embark on their journey together. This book is basically a variation on the marriage of convenience trope and while I like the trope and I didn't like how it was used in this one. The whole story should have been about Maddox and David falling for each other, finding those little things they had in common or liked doing together, I wouldn't have minded them like crushing on each other a little but the book really doesn't go there. In a way though the book should have been about them falling for each other, the book makes the mating synonymous to the loving and instead of this book being a journey of love it becomes a journey of them discovering that love for themselves.

I liked the story but it felt a little lacklustre though my opinion of this book is definitely coloured by the disastrous start it had for me.

I enjoyed the plot and I am really intrigued to find out what is actually happening. We have a lot of memorable side characters - I was really enamoured with both Angus and Colt and I want to know what is up with Angus' legs, it seems like over the course of the book Angus' condition has become a mystery in itself. I also really liked Trey even though we don't get to see much of him. I look forward to seeing him turn up in subsequent books.

This was a quick enjoyable read for me and I'm actually excited about what this series will be tackling next though I hope it won't be a very long wait till then.

In the first book (Forbidden), Maddox claims David to save him from the government. In Unexpected, we get to see Maddox become a loving Alpha while easing David into life on the ranch. They mate fairly quickly. Maddox gets news that Ben may have been sighted. Maddox head out to try to find out more information or, preferably Ben himself. Not finding David’s omega friend, Maddox heads home. Government agents arrive to confirm Maddox & David’s mating (HATED that scene). There is more speculation about the government’s intentions/motives. David , Maddox, and Angus (Maddox’s grandfather) adjust to David’s pregnancy.

Ben shows up and the omegas spend a lot of time together. Angus appears to bond with Ben but, David suspects that Angus is having smexy times with Colt (Angus’s ‘physical therapist’?)

Anyway, we don’t find out much more information regarding omegas but we do get the beginning of Ben, Angus, and Colt’s story.

Sweet Sequel

I loved this sweet sequel to the first book in the series. I liked watching David and Maddox learn about how they really felt for each other outside of the mating that was sort of thrust upon them. Both MCs did a lot of growing in this book, and there was a great list of secondary characters to really flesh out the story. I'm very excited to see what happens next with some of those characters. I also liked how the MCs from the first book had several cameos in this book, and there is progress in the SOS plot line regarding what's going on with the government dealings with omegas. Can't wait for the next one!

I can safely say that 50% of this book is sucking dick for medical purposes.
Kinda enjoyed this books, kinda not. at least Ben is alive so that's good.

But i'm NOT happy who Ben's alphas will be. Ben is in his early twenties if i remember correctly. Colt is older than Maddox so its 31+. okay i can live with that. but Argus is 62! im not saying he has to die alone and not love anyone anymore, but, man, look into your own age bracket! 40ish years isn't age gap, its fucking age chasm. 40 years is a lifetime! his grandson is older than his romance prospect!

i skimmed from 75% to the ending because i was uncomfy with all those hints at Ben\Angus.

I was beyond bored out of my mind. All of the interesting plot points were only implied. Nothing really happened. You just go day to day with the nonsense of heat/rut sessions and eventually pregnancy. It almost seemed like it was going to be interesting because the explanation of how the story is supposed to build up is quite unique. The government is stealing omegas and nobody knows why. I have many speculations but that doesn’t matter because I wasn’t given the chance to piece anything together.

Tried hard to like this book

Unfortunately, the pairing is just a Harlequin Romance of the 70’s dressed up with omega. One half of the couple is naturally submissive but incessantly praised for their ‘independence’. No actual suspense. Predictable.

Writing mechanics are good so I gave it one more star than the minimum.

It was ok

I liked the story but in a way I just wish it didn’t end just like that since we never got to find out just what the government is doing to all them omegas and it would be nice to find out in this book but I guess maybe next book we’ll know

A sweet addition to the omegaverse genre. But lacking the heat (pun intended), attraction, and sexy times of other omegaverse books. I just didn't get the relationship between the two main characters and it really didn't evoke any emotions in me. Skimmed at least the last half.

Interesting book, loved the interactions between the leads and I think they’re really on point, I believe David’s reluctance to mate or accept his feelings for Maddox are totally understandable given that the situation literally forced mating in them, apart from that the plot about the government was really interesting and it makes me curious to know what are they actually doing with the omegas.
