Anders Cohagen: The Cure

Rate this book
On the outer colony world of Adarra, fourteen-year-old Anders discovers he's a budding mechanical genius. Unfortunately, he's dying of Bevalins Syndrome, a horrible affliction of the lungs. Eisa, one of his classmates, recruits him to help her uncle Haskel—a man desperate to repair his starship, the Coriolis Rose. Time is a luxury none of them can afford because the hated Confederates have a super-weapon operating near Adarra.

Problem is, Haskel is wanted for desertion. Worse, he's in possession of illegal Confederate technology. This could get them and their families executed.

But, the tech might be able to cure Anders.

When Haskel suddenly goes missing, Anders's and Eisa's mothers set out to find him. Anders and Eisa secretly gather a small team to follow and help. When they all run afoul of a notorious gang, everyone gets more than they bargained for.

If Anders is not bold or clever enough, he might not get the chance to die from his Bevalins or the Confederate super-weapon.

William R. Humble is a native Texan who’s been writing for longer than he feels comfortable admitting. Though he’s dabbled in other literary areas, his love of speculative fiction keeps drawing him back. Despite his cats often objecting to him spending so much time writing, he's gonna keep on keeping on. He's stubborn that way.

YA/Adult Science Fiction.

This is the book teenage me always wanted to read. There are space ships, telepaths, stunners, AIs, and danger. Great heaping gobs of danger.

I had a blast writing this.

I think you'll have a blast reading it.

Getting ready to do a little redesign work on this one as part of the leadup to the sequel's release. A little internal design work and a couple of tweaks to the cover. Good things are just over the horizon!

This is a fairly decent young adult science fiction novel if you are a young person new to the genre. Otherwise, you will find it predictable and formulaic. It was readable, though, and I liked the characters. If this was the start of a series and I was 14, I could see myself being into it. It follows the "mischievous kids stumble upon an evil plot and save the city" outline.
I think this was a free ARC I got in exchange for an honest review.

The Cure is the story of several teens who live on a remote colony in a world at war. Their world is technologically advanced far beyond ours. That allows the two main characters to get into some really cool as well as very dangerous adventures mixed with their normal school lives...Ok, I loved it!! I am a sucker for feel good stories about people who seem real! This book is a winner!

A fantastic start into the hi tech but oppressed feudal systems that arose from humanity venturing into and conquering space. Can our young heroes beat the system and the odds to save their families from certain death in the war and escape humanities greed? I avidly await future instalments to find out!!.

Reread it and working on the sequel!

Sorry it took so long for me to get around to it. So far, Anders has some serious challenges ahead!
