Praise for "Doug's first novel, The Myakka Murders: "A must read for murder mystery lovers." Ceil Warren
The latest book by Doug Sahlin is the 3rd book in his "Myaaka" series. I read the first book when it was published and from there, I was hooked on Doug's murder mysteries. If you decide to read this latest book, read the first 2 in the series first. "The Myaaka Murders" and Sarasora Grapes" sets all the characters up in this series. This book has a humorous twist to some characters of which the main character, Yale Larsson, is one. He's a funny, quirky and smart private investigator who assists the authorities on cases that they are having trouble solving. Yale Larsson doesn't need the money he gets for taking a case, so he donates it to a fund that he set up after coming into a large sum of money to help people who have medical conditions that their insurance won't cover. The story is attention holding and makes you want to know what's the next twist in the cases that Yale investigates. It's definitely a page turner. Can't wait for the next book in this series.
Third and last of the series. Still a good read (a lot having to do with my familiarity with the area) but getting somewhat repetitive. From hearing ‘no rust on you’ to reading about how Yale hates to wait (in all three books I believe) to the multiple murders (maybe 8 in this latest). I think there would be much more media and police involvement if something like this happened in Sarasota County. Anyway, just my thought, not criticisms at all. I’d buy any further books written by the author and did enjoy each of the three he wrote.
I enjoy Sahlin's books. He paints images of Florida I know well. His style is crisp and clean. Mystery is the name of the game. Who done it? He leads you along keeping you guessing with a hint of dry humor. I am waiting for his next book.
