Akira Renée is screwed. Everything that she’d been trying to stop from happening has happened and there’s no turning back. She is now the most wanted witch of the Scarlet Court and has become a beacon of both power and poison.
On the hunt for the Three Relics that could save her and her people, Akira must also outrun the Damned Witches who seek to claim her and her soul. And time is running out.
With the help of Kaden Starling, a handsome Fae warrior who makes her heart race and thoughts blur, Akira struggles to keep a clear head, whilst she tries to save the city from the brink of destruction.
Fans of Sarah J. Maas and Jennifer L. Armentrout cannot get enough of this steampunk fantasy romance!

Like Akira had to do many times through out the book.. Hold your breath. And umm don't release it until we know whats next cause the journey has just begun.
This was a Sh*t show after another after another after another after another.... with nothing but a few breaks like a toss in the sand.
Loved how we've gone from the wood and scarlet court to the penitentiary to the scarlet court to the temple to the woods to the market to the sea and other realms.
I told you hold your breathe, there is no time for air.
Akira: love the growth and her reluctance to give in because she's a badass and can't be brought down. To see her softer sides shining through was lovely.
Kaden: Why is everyone after those beautiful wings of yours. its amazing seeing him and Akira LIVE a little in between the madness. finally no longer surviving and experiencing things. I truly hope there is more to The Sheila's powers than what we see in this book. Because yea.... ummm... come on are you trying to keep my heart 💔 broken?
Fletcher: I get it man.. but when are you going to realize that your way may be causing just as much harm. le sigh... he's the bad guy you wish weren't a bad guy but is and you get the hunch he'll never learn. I do love that he is a multi layered bad guy and his reasoning isn't just because he can like his lover Andreas.
This action–packed sequel picks up right where the first book left off. The tension is great and the plot twists were definitely unexpected. I enjoyed the romance between Kaden and Akira. There are a few explicit scenes, but they definitely worked within the story and added to the plot—just how I like it. The world building is also interesting.
Unfortunately, there were certain elements that threw me out of the story. The use of profanity seemed forced and is so close to our own culture, but didn’t quite seem to fit the world created here. There were several times I rolled my eyes over the random usage. Another thing I found very jarring is the lack of possessive “‘s”. I had to re-read several lines because they didn’t make sense as plural form, and then I realised the possessive was meant.
So, if you’re a stickler for grammar, you may want to pass on this. If you don’t care about such things and enjoy a fast-paced urban(ish) fantasy adventure with an interesting magic system, you might enjoy this one a lot.
A good follow up to the first book, Kaden and Akira get closer and she is able to get past her fear of his death and opened up to him. Kaden is a mix of alluring and innocent that's more attractive. The witches have been freed and the eighth is looking for Akira who is found and battles the witch and loses. We don't know what happened to Kaden and most everyone else that came to her aid but the scarlet wolves were ready and willing. What the uber skilled marked I'm not sure but since they're at risk of inhabitation it makes sense that they weren't in the thick of things. At the end of this book, Akira is in another realm hiding from the witch that wants to possess her body with thoughts of vengeance on the mind.
I know this has been an adventurous trek, but seems like those lost are not the necessary components. I feel that thru all the excitement and loss that good will still reign. O gosh, it has been a struggle and some triumphs, but where the cliffhanger left me is just plain wrong! Now I have to read the next sequel!
I read the "fit for the throne" series and I absolutely loved. This one, however, I sadly could not get into. I tried a few times but kept putting the book down. The storyline has so much potential but the characters and especially the romances falls flat. It is such a shame as I absolutely love the author. This series is not for me I'm afraid.
I'm skipping at this point just to get to the main points. It kinda of drags through parts that was lengthy. I'm confused as to how their magic seems so weak. They seem like the fly a few feet or use a little magic they need like a whole 2 or 3 days to recover. I'm like give me a break.
Book two had me on the edge of my seat! Emotional rollercoaster - I have hope, then it’s dashed, then there’s a possibility, then no not quite, then hope, then bam lost all hope.
It seems as if all hope is lost but I have to know what’s going to happen next!
3.5 stars. I just wish they had come into their power a little bit more. It's like a little burst of power and then they're winded. I will continue with the series.
