Arson Detective Sean McBride was entrenched in the ongoing investigation of a serial arsonist.
Harper Walsh, an insurance company fire investigator, was doing the same thing.
When she landed at his feet, breaking her wrist, he had more on his mind than just finding the elusive fire-starter. Picking her out of the ashes was easy. Needing to work with her…not so much.
Finding a woman who understood the demands of his job quickly had their partnership grow into love. He even introduced her to his large, crazy, but loveable family. But the arsonist was not as hidden as they suspected, and Harper gets too close to danger before Sean has a chance to smoke him out.
Will Sean be able to save Harper before the arsonist goes up in flames, taking her with him?
Scenes and language similar to what you would find in an R-rated movie. 18+ readers only.
As an Award Winning and International Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Kobo Best Selling Author, I have always been an avid reader. I joke that I "cut my romance teeth" on the old historical romance books. I’ve written as a hobby for over 30 years. In 2014, I finally gave in to the characters in my head pleading for their story to be told. Thus, Emma's Home was created.
My first novel, Emma's Home became an Amazon Best Seller in 3 categories within the first month of publishing. Its success was followed by the rest of the Fairfield Series and then led into the Love's Series. From there I have continued with the romantic suspense Alvarez Security Series and now the Saints Protection & Investigation Series.
My books are filled with sweet romance and hot sex; mystery, suspense, real life characters and situations. My heroes are alphas, take charge men who love the strong, independent women they fall in love with. I worked as a counselor in a high school and have been involved in education for the past 30 years. I recently retired and now can spend more time devoted to my writing.
I have been married to a wonderfully patient man for 35 years and have 2 adult, very supportive daughters. When writing, my dog or one of my cats will usually be found in my lap!
A Hope City is a fantastic start to a new series by Kris Michaels and Maryann Jordan. I originally purchased the Hope City Duet but see that they’ve been separated, so I’m attaching my review as I loved this series and would recommend to anyone who loves romance suspense with a dash of action and alpha heroes and strong female leads❣️
This is the first time I’ve read anything by Maryann and I have to say I’m loving this series❤️ Brock and Sean’s stories overlap slightly but flow seamlessly once you’ve read both😁
Brock is called to a warehouse fire when a body gets discovered and crosses paths with Sean while he’s investigating the fire and whether or not it should be included in a string of arsons across the City😱Sean while investigating his arsonist, stumbles upon Harper - a fellow fire investigator with a private insurance company and soon find their own chemistry😍
Sean’s story is the second book in the Hope City Series. He is an arson detective with Hope City PD. Sean McBride has little social life and is working long hours. He is surviving on caffeine and little sleep. He is at a point in his life that he wants more than a superficial one or two night fling.
Sean’s first encounter with insurance arson investigator Harper Walsh does not go well, but Sean is determined to get a second chance.
“Then let me get you home, and I’ll warm you up even more.” The idea of Sean’s way of warming her caused tingles to move throughout her body. “Is that a promise?” “Babe, that’s a guarantee.”
I loved the suspense and mystery to this story. It kept me guessing till the very end! I am loving the start to this new series and really look forward to more Hope City! -5 Stars!-
Sean is book two in Maryann Jordan's Hope City series. Arson Detective Sean McBride, while investigating a serial arsonist, causes Harper Walsh, an insurance company fire investigator, to break her arm, which causes him to become more involved with Harper. The More Sean gets involved with Harper, the more he realises she could be a person who would understand the demands of his job. However, unbeknown to Sean and Harper, she is too close to the arsonist. Will Sean discover who it is before Harper is hurt? The readers of Sean will continue to follow Sean's MaBride investigation to find out what happens.
Reading Sean, you will learn about the role of Arson investigators and why they are essential for the community. I enjoyed how Maryann Jordan portrayed her characters and highlighted their roles and issues to her readers. I appreciate how Maryann Jordan emphasised the importance of friendship and family. I engaged with Sean from the first page and had trouble sleeping until I read the ending of this book. Sean was well-written and researched by Maryann Jordan, ensuring her readers would be involved with her stories. I like Maryann Jordan's description of the settings, which allowed me to imagine being part of the book's plot.
It is through Kris Michaels that I was introduced to Maryann Jordan as a writer. They have teamed up to write the Hop City series and together they write some tense, suspenseful and wonderful stories. I love some seriously alpha men and the women that tame them.
Love these books and the spin off series. They keep on getting better and better.
You don't know what you are missing if you don't read these authors work.
Not impressed. The storyline was pretty standard romance fare but kind of boring and repetitive. I almost gave up a couple times and I did skim a bit because I have a hard time not finishing a book. I tried out this author since this series is tied in with Kris Michaels. Love love the Kings & Shadows series so was hoping for a similar author but no such luck.
I really liked #1 in the series. Sadly, I find this one boring. At 35%, I am numb and decided to DNF. I read other reviews of the rest of the series; unfortunately nothing stands out. This entire series follows the two families of Sean and Brock. I prefer Kris Michaels' story telling.
Chapter 1 is almost verbatim as Chapter 1 in book #1. Sean and Brock (book #1) are similar characters, including their love of coffee. Sean is the arson investigator who was at the murder scene in book #1. His family scene is almost identical to Brock's in book #1; lots of siblings, the obligatory family dinners, mothers who practically vibrate thinking their sons have a girlfriend, siblings who try to tell this 35 yr old man how to talk to her.
This is a very standard romance between two arson investigators. They investigate crimes while flirting. Besides the insta-lust between Harper and Sean, there is too much boring narration. I don't really care for the plot or the characters. There's a lot of actual chemistry in fire investigations. You will learn the history of white phosphorus. It's just not interesting.
Sean McBride is quiet, hot and smart, he ask a detective with the HCPD working arson cases. He runs into his best friend of 30 yrs at a fire scene with a dead body, but the case takes them in different directions. The db isn’t from the fire (so Brock follows that since he’s Homicide), and Sean takes the fire. But it’s not his serial arsonist, and that’s his major case right now. However going back to check a crime scene he comes across Harper Walsh, an insurance agency fire inspector, and inadvertently startled her, causing her to break her arm. This starts a chain of events that causes them to spend more time together and discuss the case and follow up on their attraction. Maryann Jordan is fabulous at writing in a way that gives clues and breadcrumbs, but keeps the answer just out of your reach. It’s such a great book and I can’t wait for the next McBride Hope City Book!
Sean McBride, arson investigator and detective on the Hope City PD, is over worked, sleep deprived and a coffee fiend. Still single at 36, much to his mother's chagrin, he lives for his work. Right now that includes an investigation to find a serial arsonist with his partner Jonas. During his investigation, Sean meets private insurance arson investigator Harper Walsh. She's pretty, smart and, he soon realizes, very good at her job. Some of their cases overlap and soon they're sharing observations, considerations and romance. Conflict occurs when investigations point to people close to Harper in the arson case but Sean's dedication and Harper's determination bring them together in the end. Fun times with Sean's five siblings, his thoughtful and helpful parents and their lifelong friends and neighbors the Kings that brighten this intense story of arson and death.
Detailed and fast paced this is the second book in Hope City. Sean was introduced in the first book as the best friend and now we see him working on the serial arson case that was part of the first books case for a bit. The meeting between Sean and Harper was a first for me as I never have seen the love interest get hurt by meeting! Their relationship was well developed and had a good blend of romance, friendship, respect and of course intrigue with some of her male friends/colleagues. Loved the detail and characters, especially the family (parents and siblings). Good read!
I volunteered to read and review an advanced readers copy of A Hope City Duet . Brock is King is a homicide detective and his best friend Sean McBride is a arson detective . Both work for Hope City . They grew up nextdoor to each other and sometimes cross during their cases . This diet is a fantastic introduction to The Hope City series and it's well written with wonderful characters . The stories are interesting and suspenseful , intense and full of romance . Brock meets Kallie Redman the perfect woman for him . Sean meets Harper the perfect woman for him . They both have to overcome the dangers to get their happy endings . I highly recommend taking the time to read .
I loved this! Sean is a detective in the Arson Division of the HCPD. Harper is a fire investigator for an insurance company. The two meet when Sean finds her on the scene of the latest arson fire started by a serial arsonist. She falls when Sean startles her and she ends up with a broken wrist. Not quite a meet cute but the two begin dating. They both understand each other’s work and the stresses they experience. The arsonist is still setting fires and is closer than they know. This book has suspense, family (lots of family), friends, lots of suspects (I usually know whodunnit but this one surprised me), steam and love. I’m loving the Hope City series!
In a kinda cute meet while arson investigator Harper Walsh collected evidence from the latest fire in the city, Det Sean McBride, thinking she may be a looky-loo startled her resulting in a broken wrist. Not the best impression but evidently good enough since they saw enough and bickered enough to want more with each other. Harper spills info Sean needs to work through his serial arsonist case.
A cute outing that read more CR than RS and had a rushed ending to my taste while being a good read with likable characters throughout. Rating: 3.25stars
## I loved Brock's book, so I thought I'd try this one. So glad I did. Fantastic addition to this series about Brock's best friend Sean and an evidence collector named Harper. I love how there were multiple suspects so we didn't immediately know who the bad guy was. The only thing I didn't care for was the abundance of information on fires and firefighting. No matter. Still terrific read.
It’s is very rare I don’t figure out who done it well before the big reveal. It’s even rarer that the perp is completely off my radar. Everyone is guessed we’re red herrings. The perp was someone I never even considered. Amazing work. I also loved the love story between Sean and Harper. His bumbling at the beginning is adorable.
I love Sean and Harper. They both investigate fires but for different reasons. They understand when the other gets called in to work at all hours of the night. Perfect for each other.
Harper is a nice lady. She wants to help people. Sean meets Harper in an awkward situation and feels a pull to her. They are a cute couple but Sean is trying to solve an arsonist problem. The arsonist will shock you.
This is a good series. This book has a story that drew me in, with good characters and good story line. The two authors seem to be seamless in their execution.
I thoroughly enjoyed this! It was a really fun romantic suspense and I loved the characters, their romance and especially their communication! 3.25 ⭐️ 🌶🌶🌶🌶
