This is the story of a boy who lived in fear—in his own household. He knew poverty so stark that sometimes the next meal was only a wish. He knew humiliation so deep that he didn't feel comfortable in his own hometown. He knew doubt that laughed at hope.
He knew what it was like to want to run as far away from God as his cynicism would take him.
Yet Austin French emerged from a tumultuous childhood to appear in nationally televised singing competitions, help lead a growing ministry, and become a fixture on Christian radio.
That scared little boy became a man humble enough to say he cannot offer security, peace, and hope. But he also grew bold enough to tell the world he knows the only one who can.
I loved this book! I have been a fan of his music from the first time I heard Freedom Hymn! I loved his honesty about his struggles and difficult relationship with his dad. This book is such a great reminder that when we feel like no one else can give us hope, JESUS CAN!!!!! Run to Jesus in all things. He created us and He loves us. He wants to have that personal relationship with us. Highly recommend!!
This book ties all of Austin French’s music together to show the story of what he’s been through in life. Just by listening to his music you can hear some of his story, but this book made these songs run deeper than ever before. I’ll never listen to his music the same knowing the pain and heartache, but also the beauty of restoration in them. He’s been through so much but he has such a huge heart for the lord and let god carry him through all of these hard times. A great reminder that Jesus is the only one who can give us hope, nothing else can.
In this book, Austin French is raw about his upbringing, his emotions, and the lessons God has taught and continues to teach him. He does an incredible job at explaining God's hand at work in every story he shared. It provides background information in not just the meaning behind his songs, but behind who Austin is today. This book is even more proof that God works all things together for our good and His glory.
This is a mix between a memoir and an inspirational book. I really liked learning more about French's story and how it has impacted his music, but he also does a really good job of weaving in the important lessons he's learned about his walk with the Lord and encouraging the reader to seek God more fully and trust Him with our questions and hard times.
What a beautiful story of God's work. Having grown up in an abusive home, this book felt familiar. The healing that Jesus can walk you through can be long and hard but worth it. Love his perspective after walking this tough road.
This book has helped me in the healing process of losing my dad and being angry with God. It is written to where anyone can read it and relate on some level.
After a slow start, this book took off. He offers so much hope through the promises of God he has found in his life. Everything he has accomplished is given to the glory of God.
