Life as Violet McClain knows it changes unexpectedly when she's introduced to a new drug in town—Calvetti 'Prodigy' Germaine. Prodigy and his little brother Trouble's arrival to the small town of Rosebury MI takes the townspeople by surprise. The duo is nothing like the town has ever witnessed. Violet is especially thrown for a loop when she discovers things about Prodigy that, for her are unheard of. A Drug Called You is a cultivating, uncommon love tale about two people from two totally different walks of life. When the lives of Prodigy, a wealthy millionaire from the dangerous city of Detroit, and Violet, the feisty, inexperienced small town girl intertwine they both notice a connection that neither of them can quite understand.
For as long as Miss Candice could remember, writing has been her passion. In the beginning, she wrote poetry. Later on in life, when she was about thirteen years old, she was introduced to fanfiction.
The Coldest Winter Ever was the first urban fiction book she read. It wast then when she took Fanfiction to another level. She perfected her writing skills, and began to write Urban fanfiction. At first, writing was something she did in her spare time. Something that was therapeutic to her. Never in a million years, did she think she would become a published author, although it has always been a dream of hers.
Now, at the age of twenty-eight, she's penned over ten bestselling novels with many more to come.
In addition to writing, She's also CEO and founder of Miss Candice Presents.
For most Rosebury Michigan does not exist. The small town with a population of 1,500 is so tiny that if you sneeze you’ll miss it driving past. It’s a place where everyone knows everyone with it’s one diner and one high school and one mall. For Violet and her sisters, it’s home. It’s the only place they’ve ever known and they are content with their simple living.
Life hasn’t always been kind to the McClain sisters and it became even more evident when they lost their mother to cancer and their father to a broken heart within a six month time span. With only each other left, they rely on each other to make ends meet. Barely able to sustain daily on their $5.50 an hour wages, they somehow manage.
When Detroit’s finest, brothers Calvetti “Prodigy” Germaine and Brendan “Trouble” Germaine stumble upon the town and decide it’s the perfect off the grid place to establish roots while flying under the radar, they take Rosebury by storm. These brothers did not have an easy life and the trauma and bones they’ve tried to bury is piled as high as the hill they’ve built their estate on.
When Violet and her sister Bleu respond to an add in the paper to be “maids” for $15 an hour at the Germaine Estate, Violet had no idea that her life would never be the same!
Prodigy felt an instant connection to Violet and he had to have her. In a world full of women that were different yet the same, Violet was a rare mystery that Prodigy couldn’t resist. Violet had no idea what she was getting herself into when his lifestyle was fully exposed yet somehow she couldn’t pull away from the hold he had on her!
Let me say this, Miss Candice consistently challenges my out of the box thinking with her stories because only in the literary world can I read some of her stuff and be ok with it. I didn’t read any reviews before jumping into this and I’m not sure if there was a trigger warning in the beginning but I wasn’t expecting for this to be that and to enjoy the storyline.
The editing can use some tightening up but since it’s an older release I won’t dwell too much on that part of the book. I really enjoy the progression of the story and I’m actually already on book three as I write this review. I don’t think this needed to be a series though. Maybe two books max. I’ll save some of the feedback I have for my next review but overall I loved the pace and intensity of the characters. Prodigy and Violet are truly addicted to each other and I’m rooting for them despite the foolishness that they’ve had to endure.
3 1/2 ⭐s Prodigy, a ruthless businessman both legal and illegal moved to the small town of Rosebury. He is looking to live a more relaxed life and to start fresh without having to look over his shoulder as much. He has been looking after his little brother Trouble since he was 8 years old and they are now living lavishly. Out the gate I was hoping the story was about Prodigy and not Trouble, because Trouble seemed like your typical fboy and I wasn't beat for it. Prodigy was a no nonsense boss, but this 🥷🏾 had two women that he had an arrangement with, but since meeting Violet he could not think about anyone else. So apparently two wasn't enough.
Violet was an innocent small town girl that was naturally beautiful with a fiery attitude and a mean resting b#tch face the men in the town didn't know what to do with. She was also guarded after so much loss in her life. She thought by engaging with Prodigy, a man already wrapped in an arrangement her heart would be safe. She couldn't possibly fall for someone like that could she?
The story was engaging, needed editing but the gist of it was good.
This story started off great. I enjoyed the characters, the storyline, and the writing. I didn't really want to like Prodigy, but I actually do. I have nothing but respect for a man that is upfront and honest. He just better be careful with my girl Violet. And also, I didn't see Aspen switching up, Although maybe I should have. I usually despise these kind of cliffhangers, right in the mide of a scene, but because the series is complete, I guess I'm ok with it. I wish I could tell authors if their story is good >xmas going to read the next one without being left hanging. It's so annoying. But great story.
Prodigy is bae!!!! 😩😩 Okay, seriously I enjoyed this book and I cannot wait until the next part comes out because that ending had me ready to throw my whole kindle. I legit couldn’t move after I finished reading.🤣 Relocating to a small town outside of Detroit, Prodigy and his brother Trouble, are ready to lay down some new roots. The residents of Rosebury are not used to a big fancy home and luxury cars but when A Help Wanted ad is placed, the residents waste no time applying. When Prodigy met Violet they bumped heads but it was so obvious that the two had an instant attraction. Throughout the book I was waiting for these two to let their guards down and when it finally happened it was so worth the wait. But the plot twist after Violet and Prodigy’s situationship happened had me scratching my head.. Overall, this was a great start to a new series and I’m anxious to see how Miss Candice wraps this up because I know the drama is coming. I like that this is told in third person so we get to hear everyone’s perspective. The characters are likeable, I also want to know more about Bleu and Trouble. Good work!!
Dorothy your not in Kansas anymore! Vi is so feisty but sweet. Prodigy is certainly peculiar and I am so interested in seeing how his Lil poly world turns up. I love the sisters and their relationship. Trouble and Bleu? I wonder if anything will come of it!
I enjoyed reading Prodigy and Violet's story, but it had so many grammatical errors that I couldn't rate it higher.
A Drug Called You has some interesting characters that encourage you to turn the pages to find out what will happen next. The storyline is solid and well thought out. I am curious about what will happen in the rest of the series after the cliffhanger at the end of this book.
Violet has always stayed in her small town, but she profoundly yearns to go and see the big city. She has an independent spirit but does not always know how and when to control her mouth.
Calvetti, better known as Prodigy, has moved to the area from the city. He is looking for a quiet and somewhat fresh start away from the big city. Prodigy has just built his new mansion in the area and is looking for staff. As he interviews Violet, there is something about her that he can't quite explain. This woman stays on his mind. Violet is attracted to Prodigy, but she does not quite understand him.
Can these two get past this attraction and have a working relationship?
This is so far not bad at all. I mean, I would have preferred a “thug/savage/goon/hustler and his small town/hood girl/homely lady” instead of this trio type of game but it’s not bad at all. Violet so far is perfect, strong, independent and good, while Yara and Aspen although beautiful were the little devil incarcerated and hopefully karma will come along for a visit and put order in the house. Calvatti him was so selfish and so weird... definitely not bae yet but hopefully it will come because he has the potential for it but he truly must have issues to be so detached and like that. In any case let me continue so I could understand more this dynamic
The storyline takes a while to build up. The only exciting thing in the book happened at the end of the story. The characters are well thought and put together however the storyline is quite predictable. Girl from a shy quiet town meets a boss who upgrades her life. This story was not as captivating as some of my other urban fiction books. Some errors in the book made it quite frustrating to read. I will get part two only because I don’t like not knowing how a story ends.
I love a good alternative lifestyle story. This particular story was heavy on details that added nothing or very little so much so that i found myself skimming several pages at a time. I could never get invested in any of the characters or their storylines. This was a miss for me unfortunately.
Prodigy is going to have a fit about Violet being left alone at a club. I don't know if Aspen did it purposely or not, but he will not be happy. Bleu dodged a bullet by keeping things cordial with Trouble. Prodigy seems to care more about Violet than he does Yara and Aspen. Can't wait to read part two to see what happens.
I read this entire book with same urgency as needed to breathe air! Simply amazing ! The details are there I felt as if I was standing in the same room with every one ! I’m on a thousand with excitement to read part 2! And when I’m done with that I will most definitely be reading everything that MISS CANDICE had available to read !!
This book starts off having you puzzled but keep reading because it gets better. I thrown off by Violet change of mind with Prodigy but I guess she knew what she wanted. I’m still trying to fill Aspen out because why is she so accepting but over the book is good and I’m desperate for book 2
So far, "A Drug Called You" has been an excellent read! Since Prodigy and Violet seem equally enamoured with each other, "you" can mean that they both are the "drug!" As for Yara and Aspen, I have a good feeling that both their days and numbered as far as being in Prodigy's life! On to book two!
This was a different but definitely an intriguing and wonderful storyline for this author. Character development well written. Prodigy is definitely a character. I enjoyed and recommend this five star read. Excited to read part 2. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
Whew Miss Candice!!! You did not disappoint!! Please let her get Aspen's tail!!! Also I hope Violet knows what she got herself into because whew chile!!!
Miss Candice did it again. I love violet and prodigy relationship. It’s real and they really like each other. I hope he get rid of yara and aspen. I knew aspen was up to something. I hope violet be ok. On to part 2.
Okay so my mouth dropped open sk many times!! Violet and Calveti are it for me! Trouble and Bleu can come on and make this a family affair!! I just want Vi to boss up though don't join in put them out!
This book is so different. It is not all what I was expecting. Prodigy is truly something else boy. I can't stand Yara and Aspen and knew they'd be trouble. I can't wait to see how everything plays out.
I love the innocence of the feeling creeping up between them its so intriguing. Yara is so selfish and feels so entitled. Aspen was ok with me until the end. I was Bleu and Trouble together. Yvette is a hood rat. Prodigy gonna be so mad.
This story is different yet familiar than the stories I I used to. I can definitely relate to the small town girl, the innocence, the naive thinking. The wanting to go further and explore. The 3 way relationship through different I'd u like it I love it. 💘
I don't like that both Prodigy and Trouble have to be cheaters! Aspen is a dirty dog for leaving that girl I'm the club! They already knew what it was with Prodigy! Trouble hasn't ready been showing his actions in part one, so let me find out.
I loved the intro and character development. I wasn’t expecting Violet to give in so easy n agree to the arrangement with Yara and Aspen, I thought she would give some push bsck but I understand chile I would’ve agreed to anything Prodigy asked me too
I'm really enjoying this book. It's a nice build up of what is to come. I'm loving Violet's character. I was kind of shocked she agreed to be part of a trio, but I'm sure she'll be full of surprises. Yara and Aspen need to go.
Felt like I was reading a 6th grade novel. It was so boring and mundane. When it was stated someone was making $5 an hr I thought in 2023?? Just boring with a lot of unnecessary details and fluff that it wasn’t even worth finishing.
Oh man was I not ready for that ending..... now I’m dying to get to Part 2! I knew Aspen was suspect all of a sudden wanting to be nice. I hope Prodigy finds Violet and leaves Aspen in Florida!!
Man Prodigy gave off all the Alpha male pheromones. He was so smooth. I can't believe Aspen. Violet what can I say fell into the trap of Prodigy. Yara girl pump your brakes. Would like to hear more about Trouble. Four stars because it was a little slow paced for me.
Prodigy is something else. I don't know what to say or think about this book. Will Violet be ok? Will Prodigy let the others chicks go? But this definitely a good read.
