Short and Sassy Series #5

Elizabeth Bennet: Short and Sassy: Four Pride and Prejudice Tales

Rate this book
Four heartwarming tales! Sigh, swoon, and fall in love with Mr Darcy and Elizabeth, again and again.

Love and Other Machines

Her life was going smoothly until love threw a wrench into it.

Her uncle’s pet and her mother's trial, Elizabeth Bennet has always been… different. Blessed with a quick mind and a knack for all things mechanical, sometimes the simplest things—like love—are harder for her to fix. A gentleman by birth but an engineer at heart, Darcy wastes no time in dismantling Elizabeth’s secret. But he has secrets of his own that cause him to linger, to falter, and then to risk everything. Can Elizabeth and Darcy work together, or will the gears spin out of control?

Indisposed

A Misunderstanding to Last a Lifetime.

When Elizabeth Bennet first meets Fitzwilliam Darcy, she is not feeling quite herself. Miserable and in an unsociable temper, she decides to attend the Meryton Assembly against her better judgment to support her beloved sister. Fitzwilliam Darcy unknowingly misjudges the condition of Miss Elizabeth Bennet’s health. What begins as complete disinterest soon develops into pity when an unknown surgeon offers an even more bleak outlook for the young woman’s future. He will see that her last days are worth living. He commits himself to be her champion… irrevocably. Will he discover his feelings are more than just pity on a dying woman?

Spirited Away

When doing the right thing goes utterly wrong.

Elizabeth Bennet cannot rid herself of the strange feeling she has whenever she is around Mr. Darcy—and it has nothing to do with the fact that he is irresistibly handsome and intelligent. Almost nothing, anyway. People around town are disappearing, and no one seems to know why. And who was that woman Mr. Darcy was hiding at the Meryton Inn? Elizabeth has questions, and Mr. Darcy refuses to answer them. In the absence of good information, dark suggestions soon populate the town’s imagination. And when another young lady goes missing, will the town turn on Darcy, or will the truth come out—no matter who it exposes?

Unintended

What if... the person who caught you in your most embarrassing moment is also the one your heart was meant to find?

It was never supposed to happen. Elizabeth Bennet never planned to get trapped in a ridiculous situation, and she certainly never intended for the person who found her to be a dizzyingly handsome... tall... and odiously haughty man who seems to regret ever meeting her. Fitzwilliam Darcy wishes he could erase that whole morning--especially the part where he laid bare his... well, it is hardly worth repeating. For a surety, he would rather forget about the temptingly pert lady who had borne witness to his blunder. The only trouble is, he keeps being thrown into company with her. Every encounter brings a new brush with calamity, and he is beginning to wonder if he will survive their acquaintance. Darcy must find a way to keep his wits about him, keep his sister's reputation safe, and keep Elizabeth Bennet from becoming something she was never supposed to be... his intended.

Curl up with four cozy tales of literature's most stubborn couple as they encounter mayhem, misunderstandings, and happily ever afters for the ages!

I would have given it 2 stars based off the first two stories. They were quick in resolution of the dislike/issue of ODC which made it odd for their characters. The 3rd story was my favorite of all four. The last was better than the first two but not as good as the third one.

Don’t know if I would read again.

Review: I was immediately turned off by the narrator's voice and switched to read on my kindle so my enjoyment would not be hindered. While on a long drive, I did try to listen again but my original dislike was confirmed. I liked all four tales when read traditionally though.

Enjoyable reads

This is a compilation of four of the author’s short and sweet Pride and Prejudice variations, and as the title indicates, depicts Elizabeth Bennet as sassy and very impertinent. This is actually my second readings for all four as I’ve read them as separate releases in the past. My favorite is Indisposed. As I’ve stated in my separate reviews, these are short but less than satisfying variations. Due to the author’s intention for them to be brief and quick-reads, they lack depth, the love affair between FD and EB are somewhat shallow. However, one cannot dispel how sweet and enjoyable they are. This one is highly recommended as they offer 4 variations in 1. What more can a Pride and Prejudice fan ask for?

I've been reading P&P variation non-stop for almost four years. Yeah, crazy! And that's why I can say that I found this one quite refreshing. The one thing I absolutely dislike about recent variations is their unrelenting use of misunderstandings. I hate them. "I have faults enough, but they are not, I hope, of understanding." Wasn't that what Mr Darcy has said? So why many writers insist on using them as the major source of conflict in their stories? Granted, there is an element of misinterpretation between Darcy and Elizabeth in the original, but that is understandable given the rigidity of their society. They could barely exchange a word in private without being interrupted or stirred away from each other. But that is not the case in many stories whose "modern" approach grant them exactly the opposite (and mind you, I'm not against modern approach. I love when a kiss is shared or some romantic declaration is made).
That's why this short story was a delight. Given its length, there's no space or time for nonsenses. It squeezes in the pages the sweet and quite believable interaction Darcy and Elizabeth had as they first meet. And the element of anxiety is completely left outside, as the story is nothing less than remembrances of their past. I real balm for stressful days, ladies.
My only complaint is that the author decided to have just some of her books available for Kindle Unlimited. It's a shame indeed. I really hope she could reconsider this decision.

This book contains 4 novella length stories focusing on Elizabeth. I really enjoyed them each but Elizabeth is a very strong personality in all of them, as evident by the title.

1) Mechanically minded and working with Darcy in a factory
2) Having an illness believed to be life threatening
3) Solving a mystery that always seems to lead back to Darcy
4) Experiencing common and constant embarrassing moments

Absolutely delightful

Great writing, plays variations on Pride and Prejudice like a virtuoso. Witty, clever, funny, tender and romantic. Highly recommended for fans of Austen, Heyer and their ilk.

A series of fun reads

I enjoyed every one of these, including the two I had already read as standalones.Stories this length often seem to leave things out, but the flow here is fine. There is angst in these, but it doesn't last long

A collection of 4 short stories. 4 stars for two of the stories, 5 stars for the other two - fun takes on Pride and Prejudice that I thoroughly enjoyed. The last short story was definitely my favorite!

Wonderful old friends

Having read these stories previously as individual books, it was like having a pleasant, giggly visit with old friends. Plenty of witty thoughts and dialogue, humorous plotting, sweet romance, and a definitely sassy Lizzy. Very entertaining!

Thoroughly Enjoyed ALL of these Short and Sassy tales

Each tale was unique and enjoyable. I love this author because she has a terrific sense of humor and can put ODC in such situations that bring out their softer side. Great work!

Every page of this compilation was delightful. I liked Alix James’s Mr. Darcy, slightly quicker to laugh than in most other JAFF, but true to the original nevertheless.

Cute stories, not very memorable. Unfortunately the last one in the book was my least favorite.
