My name is RG Long and I've written an epic fantasy series I can't wait to share with you. It's called "Legends of Gilia" and it is going to be one wild ride. The very first one is called Sword of Ruyn and is available now!
I grew up on Final Fantasy video games, Dragonlance novels, RPG Maker computer programs, and Warhammer table-top gaming armies.
All this epic fantasy is probably why I have planned such an epic series. The Legends of Gilia is a 15-book-long series! Now I'm working on my newest series: The Origins of Gilia!
I live in San Antonio with my wife and wonderfully creative daughters.
I liked the characters and the plot, but this book could use some editing. Some passages required multiple re-readings to attempt to make sense of them, and I felt like the descriptions tried too hard sometimes to be deep, flowery, literary. I think the core tale and characters are entertaining and engrossing, but the book as a whole needs some smoothing out. On the plus side, the pacing was good, and I liked the "flavor" of this fantasy. I.e., I really dig a meaningful coming of age story, and this one has a lot of potential. I'll keep reading.
Another thing I appreciated in this book was the lack of heavy-handed political or identity politics commentary. I liked that this was a straightforward fantasy which I as a straight white person could relax into without worry that the next page would bring token characters or sermonizing.
Boring. Really mundane and I was just not into it. I read the entire book and have no desire to see where the story goes. Read the Gilia books instead the story is amazing.
