A best-selling mystery author gets involved in a murder investigation and incurs the wrath of one of the detectives because he is making more headway in solving the case than the police are.
I always look forward to a new book by Steve Demaree, but I’ll admit that this one took me by surprise. The primary character is a recently widowed author who is obviously not bad to look at! Because of an accidental meeting with a young widow and her two little girls. When he goes to a friends apartment with her he discovers a young dead woman. The search not only for the murderer, but for the unknown murder victim. And then another body is discovered, also unknown. The author turned detective helps two policemen as they attempt to solve the crime.
I am usually pretty good at guessing the murderer, but this one had me guessing until the final pages. I recommend this one for some good reading.
I have read the Dekker & Aylesford Place series'. The Wrong Place is the first of his stand-alone novels for me. I was slightly disappointed in it. IDK, perhaps I was expecting too much. I certainly wasn't expecting a long cozy. I will read more of Demaree's books, but I do hope he will flesh them out more. There are times when an easy read cozy is just what is needed, but other times I want something more complex, a mystery that makes me think, makes me work out whodunnit! Fact is, I will continue to read Demaree's books b/c I enjoy them. I just won't put my own expectations on them anymore.
Kindle Customer A Mystery Authors Mystery Reviewed in the United States on December 18, 2020 Verified Purchase As with all of the Steve Demaree books, I thoroughly enjoyed this one too... My favorite mysteries are with Cy and Lou as detectives, but this one also had some very funny moments with Sam and the two city detectives who remind me of Abbott and Costello. In the end, the murders are solved, but it's not who you thought... RECOMMENDED
I enjoyed this book - it kept me guessing the whole time. I love the humor! I still miss the Dekker Series! Wish there were more of them! Steve Demaree is a good author, and I love a good laugh when I am reading a mystery! I missed the faith based books of the Dekker Series! I have read several in that series twice.
I liked the fact that an author had such great ideas a out where to look for clues. I don't think there was anything I didn't like. I enjoyed the characters, they were perfect for this story. I gave a five because, the story was enjoyable and it flowed really well. I would love to read more book about Sam, the author and his ability to help the two detectives.
This book held my attention so much! I love the humor and conflict between Sam and the detectives. It was good to see Sam start dating again after his wife's death. I knew Sam would figure out who the murderer was, but he had me guessing until the end. I can't wait to start another one of these great books!
Quite a ride trying to figure out which of the several suspects did it!
Lots of interesting and clever characters in this Who Done It mystery book. Author Steve Demaree sets the stage for a second Sam Hendricks book, which is sure to keep you entertained and guessing. You won’t want to miss this series laced with just the right amount of humor.
The Wrong Place by Steve Demaree is an excellent mystery with plenty of characters to give you a good twist or two! I love the new character Demaree came up with for the story and really glad there is a second book , out now, with Sam Hendrick, the author and mystery/murder detective! There are two ‘real’ detectives that need a little help solving cases and Sam is the perfect assistant!
First, I thought the book started very slow and tedious, after about 3 chapters, I stopped reading, but decided to read a couple more chapters,as Steve is one my favorites. The action picked up and I actually t Like the rest of the book. If he writes another one of these, I'll buy that one also.
Really enjoy reading a mystery that keeps making me change my mind about who did it. Love how the writer keeps throwing things in to throw you off track. Very good read.
I've enjoyed many of Steve Demaree's past books and was excited to see he has begun another series. No blood and guts, no gore, no missing children. Just a good, solid whodunit and believable characters
I really enjoyed reading this book. The main characters are funny. It is a bit different to the author's other series. There's no swearing or sex, guts and gore. Well worth five stars.
The plot and characters of this was interesting. However, the flow of the story seemed to drag which made reading it difficult. Maybe the next one will flow better!
This was an awesome mystery keeping me guessing as to who did it. I love this author and have read almost all of his books. This was a wonderful addition.
I enjoyed this book. I hope there are more. I loved the characters and the story. I was hooked from the first page. I never knew who was the murderer was.
