Willow left her small hometown 11 years ago after an incident and had no interest in returning. The only reason she’s back now is for her sisters wedding. She didn’t expect to run into the man she abandoned on prom night. Luke never forgot her.. he knows she’s trouble but he doesn’t care. He can only hope he doesn’t grow attached since she’ll be leaving him once again.
Wow. Willow is so misunderstood and it made me really sad for her family. They infuriated me to no end and missed out on an amazing person. Willow is amazing though.. she didn’t let anything bring her down and made a name for herself in Vegas. She even stood up to someone she couldn’t before. She’s the real MVP of this book.
don’t ask. this is what happens when i get access to free ebooks.
this was just what i expected- a silly, way too fast paced, somewhat cute, goofy romance. def hit the spot for some light entertainment. yeeyee 🤠. 1.5 out of 5.
This was a funny, cute story. The plot was realistic and relatable. Small town girl leaves home after a horrible prank and when she returns for her sister an old flame is there too. Lots of witty banter and a cute holiday novella
A sweet romance of reconnecting, second chances, and lots of hilarious (and maybe also OH NO) situations.
In this one we meet two characters, Luke and Willow. 11 years ago they went to the same high school, almost went to prom when everything went wrong, and now Willow is back for her sisters wedding and we see Luke and Willow connect again in a fun, sweet, sexy way.
Willow was a really sweet character though given everything (also how naïve she is) I had expected her to be maybe just 20, maybe younger. At times I could see the 29 year old, but for most I just saw an 18-20 year old girl. She was a sweet character though and I loved that she started a Christmassy event business in Vegas. I loved her drive. I loved that despite everything she came back to the town. I wanted to give her so many hugs though given her family and several other things.
Luke is our other MC and I really enjoyed seeing his reactions to Willow + to her family + her business + all the chaos she gets into. Since he is with the police… he had to arrest Willow twice. XD The first time he didn’t know who she was, the second he definitely did. I loved how attracted he was to her, and how curious he was. It was great to read several things that happened to him while she was away. Read about the prom. Read about his sister. And I loved it when he stood up for Willow. When he just was tired of her mom bossing her around and never being kind. Yes, maybe a bit awkward as Willow told him that in secret.. but I was proud of him. That he did it.
But the mom and her sister? LORD these people. Thinking about appearances more than caring about their daughter/sister. Yes, she is reckless, but they overreact so many times. OK, at one point, with the gazebo I could get the sister, I would also be hella pissed if my wedding was almost due and THAT happened because my sister was too lazy to grab a ladder. Holly (the sister) later did get a bit better, but the mom? I just wanted to turn on the snowmachine on extra turbo. At one point the MC gets sexually harassed and publicly shamed (again) and instead of comforting her the mom just got angry, how dare she do this to her family, why can’t she be normal, and more. WTF. I would have run away as well.
The romance was well written and I just love a second chance story. It was a bit rushed though, I mean, they went from OH, you are back to OH let’s explore what we missed to OH let’s live together and I love yous in the span of mere days. It just felt too fast for me. I mean, I am happy that these two got together, YAS, and the chemistry was off the chart, the sex scenes well-written, I loved seeing these two reconnect again.
Also given that the feud has been going on for a decade-ish (so 10-ish years) and Holly left 11 years ago… why are people surprised she didn’t know about the feud?
But all in all, despite the rushed romance + the horrible family, I had so much fun reading this one and I flew right through it. I definitely was shipping these two characters + I love the Christmassy setting + the wedding was cute + great sex scenes.
This story put a huge smile on my face. I usually don't care for Christmas books because they end up being so sappy! I was pleasantly surprised by this very funny second chance story between the hot cop and the kooky girl who got away in high school.
Every woman with a sister will feel a kinship with sisters Willow and Holly. The two of them are so different, and the only reason Willow is back in town is to be Holly's bridesmaid in her wedding. As the reader, you may understand the way Willow feels that she can't live up to her sister. You may not feel animosity, but you will feel familiar pangs of Will I ever be as good as she is? The greatest thing about this story is that Willow isn't portrayed as this screwup as she often sees herself. She's an entrepreneur and problem solver who made her way in a new city at age 18 with no help. So instead of using cliches to dig at your heart author Hunter demands that you like Willow for being herself. And its all reinforced by the guy who misses her terribly.
I loved how there wasn't instant love. I cheered when I read this from Luke.
"I shook my head. “She’s only been back in town a few days. It’s too early to think about that, and it wouldn’t make any difference. You know Willow’s taking off again tomorrow.”
They both acknowledge that there are feelings, but they don't rush the love sentiments. And Luke likes Willow for who she is too.
"Willow was reckless and accident prone, and the most exciting, captivating woman I’d ever known. The man who married her would get to experience adventure. His life would never be dull."
Everyone will want a man who says that! No matter what is said, Willow never tries to change. The dialogue is clever, NOT cute, and the funny parts are original. This is what the Hallmark Channel tries to give us every season but fails miserably.
I haven't laughed this hard at a Christmas romance in a very long time! Willow left town right after high school, after being publicly humiliated by the town bully. Unfortunately, that meant that she stood up her prom date, Luke. More than a decade later, Willow is back in town for her sister's wedding, and to say that she runs into Luke is a huge understatement.
Luke is a local police officer with a bright career ahead of him, but he never quite got over Willow's leaving, though he completely understood the reasons why. Seeing her again has him thinking all sorts of what-ifs, but first he's got to help her out of one disastrous situation after another.
The author has a wicked sense of humor that is displayed with brilliant phrasing and imaginative situations. Feuding neighbors, and uptight mayor, an endearing bridezilla, and snow in places no one wants snow all add up to one of the most unique stories I've ever read. It was a barrel of fun from start to finish, and I was so glad to see how the author resolved the major conflict so these two could enjoy a satisfying HEA. It's a quick read - took me just a couple hours - but it's one I won't soon forget. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Willow Buchanan basically ran out of town right after high school. She was so mortified by “The Incident” where the town bully publicly humiliated her, that she couldn’t face anyone. She was supposed to go to the prom with her crush, Luke, but getting out of town was her highest priority and she never looked back.
Over a decade passed and Willow is forced to come home for her sister's wedding. Luke Penn is a local police officer now, but he never got over Willow. Rescuing her from the constant stream of disasters she gets into could be a full-time job itself! But apparently both of them still have strong feelings. Luke was perfect for her and accepted her just as she was. Willow and her family saw her as worthless, causing trouble wherever she went, and they made her feel unwelcome. Will Luke convince her she is just what he wants and needs? Will he ask her to stay with him and try to find a HEA together? Or will he give her the freedom to go back to the life she has made for herself?
This was a good story with the proper amount of laughter to make me a big fan! The characters were great together, and Luke is fantastic in every way. Grab your copy and see if the two of them can work out how they feel and what they may be willing to do about it.
A cute story about a Christmas decorator (Willow) from Las Vegas who comes back to her hometown for the wedding of her sister Holly and her fiance Rudolf (no, she did not make it up). Willow has always been seen as the screw up of the family and wants to show her family that she made a good living for herself in Vegas. But not everything goes as she planned. Luke, a police officer, is surprised to see the prom date who stood him up during prom. He never left the city, and is one of the groomsmen in the wedding of the year. With Willow being a bridesmaid, what could go wrong, right?
Quirky Heroine and Deep Characterization Make for Great Read
This book has one of the best opening scenes I've read in a long time. I won't describe it so you can enjoy yourself if you decide to check out this book. This is a second-chance-at-romance holiday read. Especially when she writes from the heroine's perspective, the author manages to achieve deep characterization; we feel like we are in her zany mind, and oh, what a ride it is! She has a unique way of seeing the world, and it is a delight to have a front-row seat. Humor sparkles from nearly every corner of the text, both with the heroine’s observations of the world and her banter with the hero. While this is certainly not a high-angst story, it is not instalove either, despite their past, thankfully, as I am not a fan of that in general. They have a somewhat complicated past and an uncertain present and future because they live 5 hours apart; they both acknowledge this. They certainly have choices to make. I thought the heroine was fantastic. She's definitely a little goofy and quirky, but her family does not appreciate her (and haven't her whole life) even though she's done well for herself, creating a successful business in the “big city” when she moved out at 18 after an embarrassing situation. The book has some mild profanity, which I'm never a fan of, and I think it is particularly wrong in Christmas romances because of the reason for the season. But I enjoyed the characters and their interaction so much I could overlook my distaste for it somewhat and just enjoy their story. All in all, I found this to be a delightful Christmas romance.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
Willow, 29, had left town 11 years after an embarrassing incident with a bully and had never returned or seen her disapproving mom since. She had a successful Christmas events business 5 hours away in Las Vegas and returned for her sister’s wedding. After an incident with a snow machine she was driven home by Luke, the prom date she stood up before she left home years ago, who was now a police officer. He had a crush on her in high school and they are still able to act goofy and joke around with each other, but Luke know she is only in town for a few days so he doesn’t want to get too involved with her again. Willow sees herself as an impulsive screw-up with disaster always following her and even unwanted by her mother. Will Luke and Willow take a chance on finding happiness together?
I loved this holiday story about two high school acquaintances who see each other again 11 years later and feel a connection. The author did a great job explaining why Willow and Luke acted as they did. Willow had always felt that her mother disapproved of her and didn’t want her around so she left home and hadn’t returned in years but now that she was there for a wedding she still felt she was unwelcome, unloved, and like a disaster waiting to happen. Luke had raised his younger sister and missed her a lot now that she lived in Australia and he rarely saw her. They were both ready for love but afraid to commit because of distance and fear of being hurt. I loved the characters in this book and can’t wait to read the books about some of the other characters in this story.

Oh, this was a perfect holiday treat. We meet Willow who is running her own Christmas event business dressed as an elf. She’s in her old hometown for her sisters wedding for a few days and decides to pick up a few jobs while she’s there. Unfortunately the job she’s hired for isn’t as clean as she’d like and she ends up getting arrested by Luke, the man she bailed on 11 years ago on their prom night.
Yes, this is a comedy of errors and a sweet as sin second chance novella, but there are definitely some hard subjects within.
The reason why Willow left her hometown broke my heart (she was heavily humiliated in high school and the perp got away with it) and her mother and her sister both made me want to clob them over their heads. Especially her mother. How can someone be so cruel to their own daughter? See only the poll numbers and not the woman in pain and in tears? I teared up while reading how she was treated by those who were supposed to love her.
I’m glad Luke saw through that all. He is so sweet in Willow, sticking up for her and having her back. Yeah, they lead completely different lives but he still feels so much for her that my heart squeezed with happiness. And when this man goes all protective? Grrrr, gimme. Gimme more.
It’s a very holiday spirit ending but it didn’t feel cheesy, but it felt so right. And it made me so curious about the Lennox brothers so I’ll definitely see more of them later!
"No Ordinary Christmas" by Talia Hunter is a delightful holiday novella that combines humor, romance, and the charm of a small-town setting. The story follows Willow, who reluctantly returns to her hometown for her sister's Christmas wedding, only to find herself arrested by Luke, the high school sweetheart she left behind years ago.
Hunter's writing is engaging and witty, with well-developed characters that draw readers into the festive atmosphere. Willow's quirky personality and Luke's steadfast nature create a dynamic and entertaining relationship, filled with both tension and undeniable chemistry.
The novella's pacing is brisk, making it a perfect read for the holiday season. The plot, while following familiar romantic tropes, is executed with charm and a fresh perspective. The small-town setting adds warmth to the narrative, and the festive backdrop enhances the overall reading experience.
However, some readers might find the story's brevity leaves certain elements underexplored, particularly the backstory between Willow and Luke. A longer format could have provided more depth to their history and emotional journey.
Overall, "No Ordinary Christmas" is a heartwarming and humorous holiday romance that offers a satisfying blend of second-chance love and festive cheer. It's an enjoyable read for those looking to immerse themselves in a lighthearted and spirited Christmas tale.
I love Willow's character and how quirky she is. Luke is a stand-up guy with literally no flaws. They (meaning mostly Willow) get into some shenanigans that make for interesting situations. I like how this book was mostly about the inter-personal relationships between Willow, Luke, Holly, and her mom and the Christmas aspect wasn't constantly smacking you in the face. It means that you can read this book any time of the year.
I want Willow to decorate for me! (Also wouldn't mind having Luke save the day either.) The only frustrating thing I found about this book was Willow's family's lack of understanding/communication. There's a whole situation that happens where Willow is very understandably upset and her mom basically tells her to just "get over it."
Otherwise, I enjoyed the storyline and the fact that they recognized how quick they're moving (but kinda don't care). It's a super fun, light-hearted read with a sprinkle of Christmas. I'm definitely planning on reading the rest of the series once it's out!

It was an entertaining read filled with lots of humorous moments that Willow got into when she returned to her hometown for her sister’s wedding. Willow was reunited with Luke, the guy she stood up for prom due to her leaving town because of an embarrassing situation, in the funniest way. It was very unique and different as she unwilling engaged in a prank war with neighbors and wound up pranking Luke in the process. They quick reconnect. I like the amount of emotional wounds that had been explored in such a short time period. I loved that she stood up for her and supported her through that. It showed he really cared about her.
What I didn’t like was the quickness of their physical relationship. I didn’t mind the kissing, but the bedroom activities. It was just felt weirdly placed scene and rushed. It just didn’t feel right. The fact that there were two more scenes after that too felt a little too much especially for a novella. I would have preferred that only one scene happened at the end only, giving time for more build up and anticipation. It was too much. Also, didn’t care for them being madly in love in such a short time. It just didn’t feel right either.

This was a quick read Insta-love small town romance. I loved the two main characters. Willow was accident prone and emotionally scarred. Luke was a dreamy perceptive alpha. Cannot wait to read the next book.
Willow Buchanan runs a successful Christmas events business in Vegas. She has to return to her home town, the scene of all her teenage humiluation, to be in her sister's wedding. Her former teacher, Mrs. Lennox, dupes her into playing a practical joke on her feuding neighbor. Her high school crush and guy she stood up for their senior prom, Luke Penn a local cop, threatens to arrest her. In a series of accidents Willow gets arrested and almost ruins the wedding. Meanwhile she and Luke really hit it off and hook up at the wedding. She comes back on Christmas to see Luke and they get together for their HEA.

When Willow left her home and family she left Luke behind. The reasons she left and stayed away were still with her, but she had been on her own for 10 years and should have been able to handle the past.
You can’t live down the past if no one will let you, though. Luke saw Willow for what she was - adventurous, fun, and caring. Her family saw her as a disaster.
I really liked this story because Luke was so perfect for Willow and it was quite swoon worthy when they were together. He was the kind of guy that wouldn’t let anyone insult his girl and he hated to see her sadness because her family was unwilling to see her success.
The book takes place over Christmas and New Year’s but there isn’t a very heavy hand on the holiday theme.

Willow left town 11-years previously after an embarrassing incident and she always felt that her mother disapproved of anything she did, and she is now a successful Christmas events planner that is returning home to be bridesmaid at her sister Holly’s Christmas wedding. Being home brings back her insecurities and she feels unwelcome and unloved. Luke is a police officer who always had a crush on Willow, and when she has an incident which a snow plough, he drives her home. No spoilers: - this is a definite must read, you will not be disappointed. This is a beautifully written little gem of a story which is perfect for the holidays. This story is entertaining, humorous, and with witty banter and love. I look forward to reading more from this gifted author whose work I highly recommend for all readers.
Willow had an awful history with her hometown but she needs to be back because of her sister's wedding. Luke was her high school crush whom she was going to go to the prom with but after an incident she left town. Their reconcile is messy but the pull between them is still strong. The story is cute, sweet, and heartwarming with a little bit of steamy moment... I think the author plans it well because it happens when a reader (AKA me) can't stand their sexual tension anymore. And because it has a christmas theme I feel like I am reading one of hallmark movie's plot so if you are a fan of those romantic movie, I recommend this book to you as well.

Willow thought when she left San Dante when she was a senior in high school, after the incident and graduating early, that she would never come back. Now she had to go to her sister’s wedding. Luke was a waiting to hear if he had made the detective position at work. He was at his best friend’s house when an elf literally slid in from the door and landed on top of him being none other than the one that left town and him dateless the night of Prom. This fun and exciting romance was interesting and filled with so many unintended funnies situations that made me feel so bad for Willow. But true love seems to prevail even after years of being apart the sparks lead to a flame. Good read!

A delightful, funny, filled with snarky awesome characters, contemporary romance. I had a smile on my face and sometimes laugh out loud moments while reading this great novella. The girl who thinks of herself as kind of a cursed black sheep of her town returns to it after running away years before. Maybe she's right, as one hilarious disaster after another seems to follow her. But not all that happens to her is bad, as the one guy she had a thing for before she left, still lives there. He looks even more gorgeous than before and seems to have forgiven her for leaving town as she did. That's it, no real spoilers, just letting you know this would make one great romantic comedy on the big screen, and you know the book is always better than the movie.
No Ordinary Christmas by Taila Hunter. It was love at first read for me with Willow and Luke, these guys made me laugh out loud, want to grab them and hug them, and tell them fate is in it to win it. I enjoyed the banter between these two main characters, and the side drama and characters had me smiling like an idiot. I enjoyed this contemporary holiday romance full of drama, personal conflicts, passion, and dual POV perspectives, humor and charismatic characters. I would recommend this book and author to others. I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. I enjoyed this quick story about Luke and Willow. They grew up together and were going to prom together. Until an incident had her fleeing the area. Willow is in town for her sister's wedding when she snows in a house, only to come face to face with Luke. Luke is now a cop and has to take the snowing elf away from the mess only to realize it's Willow. They have a chemistry that can't be denied, but she hurt him when she left so abruptly. But when the Billy from her past attacks again, Luke is there to try and save her. Great HEA beginnings.

This novella was so cute! It is more wholesome compared to the other Christmas books I have ready (still steamy though!) but it was pretty rom-comish, so cuteness and kissing was expected - not completely closed-door however. It tackled a lot of issues like bullying, emotional neglect, and running away, but Willow, the MFC, was brave and strong, especially with Luke, the MMC, by her side. Willow attracts a lot of accidents, and Luke is thought to be very “ordinary,” but they bring out the best in each other and give each other what they lacked (aka each others’ personalities, support, and love). Such a cute read!
I really enjoyed this short romcom, small town second chance story. Willow manages to get herself in some chaotic and unexpected minor disasters when she comes home after 11 years to attend her sister’s wedding. Old high school hurts are brought up when she runs into her hs crush that she stood up for prom and the hs bully that drove her away. She has a strained relationship with her mother and sister too that needs work. But the main focus is on rekindling her crush with Luke. There’s lots of witty banter and some smexy times. Despite the short read, it felt like all of the issues get addressed in a satisfactory way.
I can’t believe this short story made me feel like it wasn’t at all that short, I got so into this one! Willow returns to her hometown after fleeing (literally) from her prom night after an incident when she was 18 and never looked back, until her sister was getting married and she had to return. Determined to prove to everyone that she’s a success in her life and her career, this just doesn’t go well from the start of her visit back home. One event after another have caused her embarrassment and even to be arrested too. But who’s arresting her? The guy she abandoned on prom night and the feelings are still there on both sides!
No Ordinary Christmas🎄❄️🩵 Rate: 4.5/5⭐️ Spice: 0.5/5🌶️
Willow has trouble following her and something bad always seems to happen when she is home, which is why visiting home doesn’t happen. Unfortunately, for her, she has to go back for her sister‘s wedding. This is where she runs back into Luke and it isn’t the ideal meeting after being away for so long. This Novella is was cute with its rom-com vibes! I enjoyed Willow and Luke’s chemistry. Every woman needs a man like Luke that has their back no matter what crazy or intense scenario, they may find themselves in. This was perfect for this holiday seaso🙌
