Holy shit this was the best issue in awhile. Cable going head to head with one of the evil sons of bitches but can he do what he must? Another mutant falls but in a brave way. The final fight is about to begin and we are all here for it. Let's fucking GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I'm surprised by how much I like this issue. Noto's artwork is also looking good here, though a bit stiff (not dynamic enough) for the swordfight scenes.

- I read a fan theory on how Saturnyne is actually trying to ensure Krakoa / Earth doesn’t get overrun by the Amenthi Horde, presumably because then Starlight Citadel would also be in danger, but she cannot make it too obvious that she wants Arakko to lose. Therefore she rigged the tournament in a way that wouldn't seem like she favors the Krakoans. This issue actually leads credence to that theory… because Saturnyne seems to go easy on Cable and wants him to live (his predicted role as The Fool on his tarot card has yet to pass) and she seems to have predicted + maneuvered the outcome of the One Hundred to One contest between White Sword and Gorgon. Notice how Saturnyne didn't announce her count on Gorgon's score until the Krakoans finally caught up with Arakko?

- Of course just because Saturnyne doesn't want Arakko to win doesn't mean she doesn't want Betsy to die, or that she isn't still trying to win Brian (in a totally counterproductive way but whatever, love / lust ain't rational eh). She probably thinks she's doing Krakoans a favor while at the same time protecting Otherworld and granting herself a wish or two).

- AGAIN: what exactly is Saturnyne's portfolio of magical powers? Is precognition one of them?

- So. Uhhh. Bei the Blood Moon. How does one go about finding a large warrior wife who looks wicked hot as she casually steps on her enemy's broken limbs? Asking for a friend 👀

Well, what did I say? That the X-Men being defeated probably didn't serve Saturnyne's purposes and that she probably had something up her sleeve. I mean, I didn't use those exact words, but I'm tired...

There are some places where Noto's usually breath-taking art feels a little rushed, but we can forgive that as the whole is still exceptional and...wow...that cover art!

Unusually for an X Of Swords chapter, this actually quite heavily features the title character of this comic, Cable, who faces his own round in a to the death fight with Cypher's new wife, Bei. A fight which reveals him to be more compassionate than his older self. Some significant character development for Nate, setting him apart from the other version of himself. I'm curious as to the end of his message for Esme and the girls, though...

The twist in the fight between Gorgon and The White Sword was well executed, and now the sides are even going into the final fight between Apocalypse and Genesis. But with three chapters left that's either going to be one hell of an epic fight, or the final fight won't be the end of it...

Cable bitches out, the author used quite frankly despicable levels of Deus ex machina to create meaning in what was otherwise becoming a swiftly pointless finale and the art... What the hell! It started great and by the end it looked although it was drawn by a kid in senior school art class, rushed, lazy and no real detail.

Mentally I'm done with this event now, just want it done and consigned to the past. Great idea but taken in a mind numbingly bad direction.

In Cable's book, Gorgon was the best part. (I'd like to point out at this time that I called Gorgons death but he died well).
Saturnyne definitely had the score planned out from the beginning. I still think Betsy isn't dead.
I bet Momma bear and Poppa bear are going to make Saturnyne regret this.

Back in the fight! It’s coming down towards the end. Surprised Cable flinched.
