I think the illustrations are cute, fun, and colorful. I also love that it rhymes! I'm a sucker for a good rhyme scheme; and for the right reader this sounds cool read aloud.
Sometimes that grabs me even more than the illustrations. However; I can't help but feel bad for the ostrich in this story. It seems like the girl was a bit picky about her choice of companions. No pet is gonna be perfect. Have patience-maybe -and if you are going to think so far outside of the box for a pet, expect it to act "out of the box".
The point here though is definitely just the humor in the situation and not really teaching the reader a lesson so much.
I can see a possible series here; definitely more humor and even lessons to teach with this pair of characters. 3.5-4

DO NOT WISH FOR A PET OSTRICH by Sarina Siebenaler is a children’s rhyming story focusing on a young girl who asks her parents for a pet but doesn’t know what type of animal to get. She ruminates about her friend’s pets, knowing each had a struggle with the different animals they brought home, when our heroine decides perhaps an ostrich is the perfect animal but raising an ostrich was more difficult than she could have ever imagined.

Told in AABB or ABCB rhyming scheme DO NOT WISH FOR A PET OSTRICH is another quick read; a sweet story about responsibility and work, and one girl’s imagination about what it would be like to live with a pet ostrich. The images are colorful; the text and rhyming is simple yet fun.

Very fun and entertaining children's book!

This is by far one of the best children's picture books I have read, and I read dozens of children's books every month to my son. This has become one of my son's new favorite books! The first thing that stood out to me about this book was the amazing cover. It's so vibrant and fun and the colors really stand out. And it has one of the best titles ever for a children's book! I don't think I've ever read a children's book about ostriches before, so that also made this book very memorable and unique!

As soon as I opened the book I noticed how detailed and fun the illustrations were. The expressions on the animals' faces were very cute and funny and my son loved them! He loved the illustration style and enjoyed pointing out all the fun details, like the ostrich wearing sunglasses and the celebrity ostrich. We both loved the ending of the story, and I thought the discussion questions at the end were really helpful and a great feature. My son now wants to learn more about ostriches! I also think teachers would find the discussion questions feature very helpful.

I can't wait to read future books from this talented author!

This is a cute book about doing your research before choosing your perfect pet. It seems that an ostrich isn't quite perfect for anyone who doesn't live in large open spaces and doesn't know how to feed one.

The illustrations are wonderful and the story is cute. It would make a perfect bedtime story.

What happens when Sally wishes on a falling star for a pet Ostrich. She already had a dog who chewed her shoes. She had a pet cat who was too lazy. A parrot who chatted too much. This book is cute and the illustrator did a great job.

This is a cute story about a little girl who wants a not-so-expected pet. She soon realizes that the responsibilities were too much for her. She may or may not learn her lesson. This is a silly story full of imagination and subtly teaches that pet equates to responsibilities. My 6 and 4 years old love the idea of having pets. After reading this imaginative story, they want a flying lion as a pet. My nights are filled with discussion of this lovely story.

Sally’s parents said she could pick out a pet.
The pup chewed things up.
Cats are lazy & parrots are noisy.
How about an ostrich?
You wouldn’t believe how many apples he ate.
Dr. Wally Kazoo had to be called.
The ostrich wore Sally out when he wanted to go for a walk.
But her friends sure wanted to get close to the ostrich.
At the beach he just buried his head in the sand.

What should Sally do with the ostrich?

I do not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing free books from publishers & authors. Therefore, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one.

An awesome book cover, great hand-drawn colored pictures, charming illustrations & proper font & writing style. A very professionally written children’s (preschool/elementary age) pet storybook. It was quite easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters, settings, etc. to keep track of. This could also make another great children’s pet movie, an animated cartoon, or better yet a mini-TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is an extremely easy rating of 5 stars.

Do Not Wish For A Pet Ostrich! is a short children's picture book by Sarina Siebenaler and illustrated by Gabby Correia. We begin the book with a little girl thinking of what pet she would like to get. After running through some options, she settles on a pet ostrich! She goes on all sorts of interesting adventures with her new pet. At the end of the book, there are a few little activities for readers to think about.

It's a rhyming book, and it's really fun the way Siebenaler has created all sorts of interesting scenarios with the sentences. There are all sorts of fun things for the main character to do with her pet ostrich.

The illustrations are nice. I like the way Correia has drawn the animals. I especially like the feathering on the parrot, and the fur work on the animals like the raccoon and baboon. Correia is good at drawing people too. I love the style of the eyes and there's a nice range of hair types. There are some really nice double page scenes, with some great backgrounds. The illustrator has done really good work on this book!

Overall, it's a pretty good book. I think a lot of readers will be delighted to read of the adventures of this ostrich, and be excited with all the great artwork!

*Do Not Wish For A Pet Ostrich!* by Sarina Siebenaler, with illustrations by Gabby Correia, is a delightful and humorous addition to any child's bookshelf. This entertaining story explores the whimsical consequences of wishing for a pet ostrich, taking readers on a hilarious adventure.

The highlight of the book is undoubtedly Gabby Correia's funny illustrations, which bring the story to life with vivid and comical imagery. The illustrations add an extra layer of humor, making the book a visual treat for young readers.

Sarina Siebenaler's storytelling is engaging and playful, making it easy for children to follow along and laugh at the silly scenarios that unfold. The narrative is simple yet imaginative, encouraging kids to think about the unexpected challenges and fun that come with unconventional pets.

Sarina Siebenaler, author and Gabby Correi, illustrator teamed up to make this book. There was not anything special about the writing for me. The illustrations were bright and displayed smooth and glossy. I appreciated the drawings with background scenery opposed to the ones that were just negative unfilled space. I can see in certain spaces where the blank spaces are used to distinguish a change in the story’s setting or tone. This story makes for a good read along with the writing being simple enough for the target audience to comprehend. This book follows a young girl who can get any pet she wants; she chooses an ostrich but soon changes her mind to something when she finds out how much food and exercise this large bird needs. This story shows young readers about responsibility and how important it is to think things through. I would share this book with the school aged children at this reading level.

Be careful what you wish for. This young girl put a lot of thought into what pet she wanted. She wished on a star and woke up to the pet she asked for - an ostrich. This seemed like a great choice until she actually had to take care of it. Charming illustrations engage readers and help tell the story that ends with a delightful stuffed pet. Terrific for families thinking about getting a pet as it shows the unexpected responsibilities in a humorous manner.
Love the family questions to share together at the end of the book.

This delightful book featuring a sweet and lovable ostrich is sure to engage even the most reluctant young readers. With beautifully flowing rhymes, bright, full-colour illustrations, and laugh-out-loud humour, this witty, cleverly crafted tale is the perfect read-aloud for children aged 4-9. The many diverse side characters, surprise twist ending, and gentle message - be careful what you wish for - add to the enjoyment of this popular picture book. A must-have addition to home and school libraries. Highly Recommend.

What a fun cute book about a little girl's wish. Haven't we all wished on a star. Here's it just happened to come true!!!! This story will spark the imagination but be careful what you wish for. It is beautifully illustrated. Her parents told her that she could have a pet but one that she would never forget. She looked around at other peoples pets. Then she decided on one and made her wish upon a star. Let the magic begin!!!
