The international bestselling author of Her and The Social Affair returns with another suspenseful thriller that very well could be set in the house next door.
Jack Mooney, a career criminal, has been in prison for nearly a decade, quietly nursing his hatred for the jurors who put him there. One in particular gets him through the endless days—the alluring Amy Stone.
When Mooney is granted early release, he makes Amy his first priority. To his delight, she’s even more enticing than before, and better still, she has a lot more to lose than he’d imagined.
As Mooney’s campaign of terror mounts, the police seem powerless to protect the Stone family, who must rely on their wits to survive a psychopath hell-bent on revenge.
Grab a drink. Settle in. I’ve got a quick story for you.
It starts, as most good stories do, with someone chasing a feeling.
Picture a Texas writer surrounded by five kids, two literary dogs, one unreasonable cat, and a partridge in a pear tree—all orbiting a household powered by caffeine, chaos, and sheer willpower.
Instead of getting into trouble in real life, she decided to invent it on the page. (Healthier for everyone. Mostly.)
She didn’t set out to write the perfect thriller, but she has been chasing a certain feeling for years—chasing the perfect story.
The kind that makes you miss your exit, burn your dinner, or stay up later than you meant to. The kind that makes a reader say “just one more chapter” and lie to themselves beautifully.
Some writers chase awards. Britney chases that feeling.
You might call it persistence. She calls it passion—the only real secret ingredient behind thirty-plus books and counting. Always reaching for whatever that elusive green-light moment is.
She hasn’t caught it yet. But that’s half the fun.
It’s a quiet Saturday morning and Amy is preparing to close an open-house for the day, when one last stranger walks in. She tries to discourage him but no such luck. Suddenly Amys’ spidey senses are going off…something’s not right here!
He looks familiar though, as fear begins gripping her entire body. Is that Jack? The man whose jury she sat on? But he should still be in prison… right?!
Amy knows full well Jack has an agenda and she and family are in immediate danger!
How far would you go to protect your family?
This was a super-fast shortie audio at just over five hours. There was sufficient time to get a feel for Amy’s character, but wanted a bit more from Jack, or even Amy’s husband.
There were a few sub-plots and characters tossed in that really didn’t lead anywhere, leaving me confused why they were even added.🤷♀️
Overall, an enjoyable thriller both scary and dark at times. It kept me on the edge, desperate to learn if Amy and her family could evade this seriously evil man.
My first read from Britney King, opting for the audio and glad I did! The narration was superb. Definitely now on the look-out for more of her works!
Savage Row is addictive and a read in one sitting psychological thriller and you all need to read it now. It is a fast paced page turner full of twists and turns to keep you guessing. And that ending... woah! Completely hooked from the first chapter til the very last page, this might be Britney’s best book to date.
Amy is a mother, a wife and works in real estate. She has a good life, until a face from her past turns up and turns everything upside down. Years ago, she was part of the jury that put Jack Mooney behind bars for raping a young girl. He has been released and wants revenge. Mooney is a smart criminal, stalking Amy but never doing anything that she can take to the police. She is in fear for her life and makes some not so great decisions to try to keep her family safe.
A big thank you to Britney for sending me a copy of her book to read and having me on the blog this tour
How do you rate a suspense thriller whose prologue contains a couple of huge spoilers of what is to come in the book?! 😬
The story of Savage Row is based on a strong foundation. A sexual offender, Jack Mooney, who has been recently released from prison decides to take vengeance for his sentence. His first target is one of the attractive jurors he hasn't been able to get out of his mind over the last decade, Amy Stone. Amy is a real estate broker, staying on Savage Row with her husband and two daughters. As Mooney begins his terrible retaliation, the Stone family soon understands that nothing can be as devious as a career criminal on the path of revenge and even the police might be of no help in saving them.
The book is almost as thrilling as it sounds from this brief summary. There are a few surprise twists and turns that will keep you moving ahead steadily. The supporting characters, especially Amy's neighbour and her son, are interesting. One of its biggest advantages of the book is its length. At just 256 pages (or a little over 5 hrs in audio), the book comes as a pleasant surprise in the current trend of long-drawn-out thrillers. The action is very quick and Britney King doesn't lose control of the narrative tempo at all.
Unfortunately, tempo isn't the only benchmark of a suspense thriller. The book does have many flaws that pull it down my rating chart. It is predictable to a great extent, even for someone such as I who don't read many thrillers and hence easy to surprise. So the suspense is more in the "how" rather than the "what". But a bigger disappointment is, as I said, the prologue. When I heard it, I was stunned at the nervous tension it creates with its characters. I became excited at reading a great suspense story. Unfortunately, all the characters hinted at in the prologue make an appearance within the first couple of chapters and you can immediately guess who's who. That was a huge disappointment because it stole one more bit of suspense from an already predictable book.
The audiobook is narrated by Laura Jennings and I must say, she does a fabulous job. The way she modulated her voice into an exaggerated whisper for some of the characters increased the creepiness factor. Keeping in mind that this was a multi-character pov novel with a single narrator, Laura Jennings deserves greater praise for her distinctive narration of each character. For books that cause me to lose my interest right at the start, only the narrator can turn the tables around. And Laura Jennings did that.
Overall, this might be a good one-time read for those looking for a thriller that doesn't exert their brains too much.

I am pretty sure Savage Row: A Psychological Thriller is the most sophisticated Britney King novel yet! I read it slower than her other books but not because it wasn't good and action packed, but because it felt more complex vocabulary-wise than others I have read. As with any King book, I was hooked from the beginning and had no idea what was going to happen. While a part of the end wasn't really a surprise, there was still plenty that was shocking, and it is definitely a one-sitting type of book which is a thing I love about this author's books. It was dark and gritty, but I thought it was a TINY bit tamer than other books I have read by King which really surprised me.
Savage Row has quite a few characters that are suspicious, and I loved the different viewpoints which also make you wonder who the bad guy is. King really does know how to write a psychological thriller and I am never disappointed. This was another winner and is going near the top of my favorites by her. I don't want to give too much away, and I would recommend going into this one blind, so I would say just read it and see what you think!
Thank you to the author for providing me with a review copy of this book! All opinions and thoughts are my own.
Britney King's 'Savage Row' is an exciting and quick suspense filled thriller. Amy Stone is being stalked by Jack Mooney, a man she helped convict many years prior when she served on his jury. Jack is out of prison now and wants to get revenge against Amy stone - in particular - for his nearly decade long hellish imprisonment. Luckily, her husband comes to believe Mooney is stalking Amy after attempting to reason with with him in person. After listening to his rant he has no doubt Mooney is as dangerous as Amy claims. The story that ensues is a high intensity nail biter as Mooney keeps upping the stakes by doing more terrifying and relentless acts to the Stone family. My one qualm with the story is that Amy did not immediately tell the police that she was on the jury which convicted Jack Mooney. If she had done so, they would have most definitely given more credence to the claims that he is stalking her because they would understand why Mooney may have reason to settle a score. She did eventually tell the police about serving on Mooney's trial - but not until much later and too much had happened to change the course of events. Ultimately, if Amy had told the police at the very start, she and her family could have avoided most of the hardships they suffered and cut Mooney off at the knees before he can raise anymore havoc. Overall, this was a fun and twisty listen. Laura Jennings did a fine job as the solo narrator and easily kept me on the edge-of-my-seat from start to finish.
He’d tried to do the right thing. Some lessons come wrapped in sandpaper, his mother likes to say.
His needs have developed over time until the activity became sacred, something that he cannot imagine himself ever giving up. To him, observation is an art form. Loads of people bird watch every year, and while most people would say what he does is immoral, he doesn’t see how this is any different. He considers himself an anthropologist of sorts.
He spotted them immediately, the youngest girl’s red hair flying in the wind. He could spot her from miles away. Same as her mother, he is certain. Hair that color could be seen from outer space.
His expression makes me feel like I’m about to officially become a member of a club I really don’t want to belong to.
It’s smart not to invite broken things into your life. It’s not your job to fix them. No matter how shiny the project looks, you’ll bite off more than you can chew every time.
My Review:
Britney King is one twisted sister yet I admire and covet her agile and fluid storytelling skills and deft pen. She easily lures me into a vexing and ominous vortex and I relish and revel in her uniquely insightful yet disturbingly torqued and alarmingly compelling brand of psychopaths. Her provocative characters entice and intrigue me while their stories hold me rapt and taut with tension. I am perplexed while deeply enamored with her dark word voodoo. She has mad skills and a fan for life.
The more I think about this book, I'm realizing it was pretty bad. There are at least 3 plot points that just fade away and are never well explained or wrapped up. I'm lowering my rating to 2 stars. This book was a mess. It had potential but it was a total messy mess.
-----
2.5 stars rounding up. I feel confused by this one. I feel like it should have been incredible. Something in the delivery didn't work for me. We jump around a little bit with narrators, which was kind of confusing. It was like we were barely let in to the story. You're mostly following Amy while she's being stalked and all this terrible stuff is happening but it's so disconnected and unemotional. It's like hearing about her trauma from a bored third hand source.
I received an audio book copy of this book to listen to in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
***AUDIO VERSION***. Savage Row is a twisty turn psychological thriller by Britney King that had my skin prickling on many occasions. Jack Mooney has just been released from prison and he has a score to settle against one of the jurors who sent him down for raping a young girl. Amy is this juror. A wife and mother who works in real estate, she becomes a target for Mooney and he delights in stalking her in a cat and mouse game. Mooney is clever with how he begins to torture Amy, he never does anything that Amy could go to the police with. Amy reels from the threats to her and her family and tries to keep them and herself safe from this deranged stalker. To find out what happens you really need to read or listen to this book. The narrator was a good fit for this book and I enjoyed listening to her.
Savage Row is Britney King’s latest psychological thriller and it’s a doozy! King takes on STALKING in this release and it creeped me the heck out! Just thinking about someone watching your every move and waiting to strike when you least expect it gives me the chills! The feelings of unease and being unsettled was palpable to me while reading.
Now, while I enjoyed this book there were a few things that left me wanting more. For one, I was expecting a massive twist towards the end (something we typically get from one of her books), but it never came. I suppose this could be considered a good thing too though as not every book has to have a HUGE climax that comes out of nowhere. Another thing that left me feeling a little deflated was the ending. I feel like I needed more. I’m not a huge fun of open-ended books and this one FELT like one even though it could totally stand on its own. Perhaps an epilogue would have worked? Or maybe I’m just being too picky?
In any event, in true Britney King fashion, readers are going to be gripping the pages of this book in anticipation of what’s to come. This is an easy book to get lost in in one sitting and if you’re like me, that’s exactly what you’ll do! If you enjoy darker psychological thrillers this book (and her previous novels, especially the New Hope series which is my absolute FAVORITE) then this is the book you should be reading!
First off I've got to say I love Britney King and her writing, she definitely has a dark and twisted mind and I for one love it! This book has it all! I did not want to put this book down for anyone or anything until I was done. Great book and you won't be disappointed if you read this twisted tale! Thank you Britney King for another fantastic read!!
Phew... another hit for Ms Britney King ladies and gents!!
I have become quite the fan of King's writing and Savage Row is nothing short of what you would expect from a her. Creepy, dark, dysfunctional and unreliable characters, and full on one hell of a crazy ride.
What I love about Britney? She always keeps her readers on the edge and throwing you for loop.
Let's meet Amy. Amy is happily married to her husband and two daughters. She is a relator and one day is having a showing. A creepy and weird guy shows up at the end of her showing and knows who Amy is trying to scare and harass her. This ends up being Jack Mooney who has been released from prison and Amy was one of the jurors who served on the trial.
The dark and crazy ride of revenge that Jack Mooney takes us on throughout this one was WILD. I have to say that I continue to be a big fan of Britney's work and look forward to her next release!
4/5 stars
Thank you so much to Britney for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
Guess who's back, back again. Britney's back, tell a friend.
If you’ve followed me for awhile you know I’m a big fan of Britney King. She is one of the few authors who is guaranteed to distract me from anything and everything. As soon as I get my hands on her newest release, I set all responsibilities aside and dive in.
I’ve read quite a bit of King’s work and I must say this felt different from her others. It felt close to home, relatable and even a bit believable. In the past we’ve had devious characters that are so unpredictable and really quite fun. This time we have someone we can perhaps trust and relate to.
Amy Stone is living a quiet life with her husband and kids when her past comes back to haunt her. Over a decade ago she helped put away Jack Mooney and he’s just been released from prison and wants revenge. How far will Amy go to protect the life she has created?
4 stars for a book you will find hard to put down.
Need one more reason to skip jury duty? Well here you go! I feel so bad for Amy. She was just doing her civic duty and now, YEARS later... that guy she helped put in jail? Well, he's back and with a vengeance. Mooney is an extremely smart criminal and he knows just how to push the boundaries without ever crossing them. This leaves Amy and her family in a very precarious situation as legally they can't do anything about the harassment and stalking. So now what?
In true King style, she has us glued to the pages from beginning to end. The suspense builds up and she makes this typical small town larger than life. The creep factor is strong here but the scariest part is that fine line between "too much" and "it could happen to you" and well.... the latter is always a bit scarier in my mind. For me, you can never have too much in King's books. I'm here for the crazy and she always delivers. I was side eyeing every single one of these characters (ok, except for the kids... and maybe the dog)... but that's what is so fun about this read. You never really know. Revenge/stalking reads are always a yes from me.
If you love fast paced, insane thrillers - King is always the way to go. While you may always question what's happening within the read itself, the one thing you can always count on is that you'll be entertained. Guaranteed.
From his jail cell, prisoner Jack Mooney has been plotting revenge against the jurors responsible for his incarceration. When Jack is released early from prison, his first "payback" target is former-juror Amy Stone - an alluring woman who Jack can't wait to stalk and terrorize. In just 3 weeks, Amy and her family experience horrors, and their lives become irrevocably changed.
WARNING: A family dog is brutally murdered in this book.
This is my second Britney King book and this author's signature trademark is her love of shocking readers. This stalker-thriller was short, fast-paced, and featured a handful of Britney King's trademark "shocks". Fortunately, the "shocks" in "Savage Row"(with the exception of the murdered family dog) were much "tamer" than the shocks showcased in the author's earlier books.
Yet, I felt that "Savage Row" was missing something. When reading Britney King's "The Book Doctor", I could not stop listening to the book. I was emotionally invested in the MCs and was both stunned and traumatized when the book ended.
So what was "Savage Row" missing? My major criticism of "Savage Row" was that it was borderline predictable and by the middle of the book, I had guessed the ending. The book was short (5 hours audio) and, therefore, even though the author always had firm control of this well-developed narrative, not too much time was invested in the character development of the MCs. It's important to note that although character development was sacrificed, I viewed the book's short length as a HUGE plus. In other words, I would have given this book a 2-star rating had it been a long-drawn-out thriller.
I listened to the audiobook and the narrator Laura Jennings was superb.
Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book was 2.5 stars. I rounded down to two because I did not believe it deserved 3 star rating. I keep trying to figure out what others found so great about this book.
First, the MC is underdeveloped. I find it difficult to believe that she had three creepers lurking in the corners of her life.
Second, I have worked at a maximum security prison for 10 years and the prison violence didn't ring true to me. The amount of violence inflicted on the husband was unnecessary and, in my opinion, was only added for shock value. It didn't seem to have a real purpose beyond that.
Third, there was way too much going on and cramming the three week timeframe into just over 200 pages felt like it rushed the story and contributed to events that didn't make sense.
Maybe this book is for you. It wasn't for me because I didn't think the characters were well-developed. I wasn't invested in a single one of them. The story line was rushed, confused, and not believable. I am glad I only wasted a day reading this, but I would not recommend it to others.

Thank you to the author, Britney King, for the free copy of her newest book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
SAVAGE ROW has such a unique premise, I loved the way the characters lives intertwined. It’s an epic revenge story that’s not for the faint of heart. This may be a contender for my new favorite Britney King novel. I absolutely devoured it yesterday!
I’ve come to expect that most of her books will have a hit man or woman as the main character, which always promises nonstop action. I was surprised to find the main character of this book to be your average mom/wife in the suburbs, with a completely normal job in realty. This was such a nice, unexpected change of pace.
I know I’ve said it before, but Britney has such a distinct and enjoyable writing style. I love the short chapters and the occasional viewpoint of the mystery character.
My only real complaint about this book is that it wasn’t any longer. I didn’t want it to end!
Britney King's books just keep getting better and better! Savage Row is one of her finest works. We meet Amy, happily married, a mom, a successful realtor. However, little by little things start going very wrong for her. It seems that 20 years ago she was on a jury that convicted Jack Mooney of rape. He is now out and wants revenge on the jurors, starting with Amy. He is everywhere she turns. He is menacing and threatening. He goes right up to the line without her being able to prove anything or for him to get arrested. The way King ratchets up the tension and creepiness in this book is outstanding. I literally could not put his book down. I love books where an average, everyday person gets put into such a mess and tries to get out. I won't soon forget this story and Amy! Please stop what you are doing and read this creepfest!
Savage Row is another excellent story from this author. Each and every one of her previous stories I’ve read I have absolutely loved and devoured. This is another excellent read from this author.
Jack Mooney was sent to prison. He’s been released and wants revenge. He has set his sight on Amy Stone one of the jurors. I’m hesitant to say any more as I don’t want to spoil it for anyone.
Savage Row is a brilliantly well written story by this author. If you enjoy thriller suspense then I highly recommend you read this story.
This author just keeps getting better and I’m wondering what she has up her sleeve for her next story.
Thank you NetGalley, OrangeSky Audio and Britney King for my audio ARC of Savage Row in exchange for my honest review.
Rating:3/5
I was very excited to listen to this! I devoured it in three sittings. Right off the bat, I thought it was super interesting and creepy. A very unique plot, which I liked!
The problem was it fell flat for me. It seemed more suspense than a thriller. I figured Mooney would not really be the guy after Amy since it seemed he was! There were small twists but not what I would expect from a psychological thriller. Amy’s husband was also super unlikable.
Savage Row was a gripping read for me. The characters were well crafted and easy to follow. I know this book kept me turning the page, because of the irritation that some of these characters made me feel. I had to see what their outcome would be. While the pacing kept me engaged, the story's resolution left me wanting more depth and development in certain areas.
This fast-paced psychological thriller was certainly a wild ride. I did not see that ending coming but was not left totally satisfied with it either. I guess I expected some massive twist, to which I was disappointed when it never came. I felt that this was a bit rushed and that the drama of the ending could have been amped up a bit more. I would have liked to see much more character development and maybe some more history behind Theo to better explain why he was incorporated into the story. I also would have liked to see the ramifications of the video being leaked and the dynamics of their marriage as a whole explored a little bit further. Overall, I enjoyed this and was definitely captivated by it but would have liked to see a bit more from this.
Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for this advanced audio copy.
Wow. And another wow. This book was my first delve into a psychological thriller and I was a bit apprehensive and unsure what to expect. It blew me out of the water and was so intense, cleverly written and creepy and really kept you on your toes. It was really really engrossing.
It had such an addicting quality to it, it was so so hard to put down and I loved how it came full circle from the start to join with the ending of the book (which I was so not expecting!) - the ending was just... wow!
There were so many twists and turns and it certainly made for an interesting read, or listening in my case. I listened to the audiobook which was also absolutely brilliant and really brought the book alive. It was well narrated and was really easy to listen to which definitely added to the overall reading experience.
I could definitely recommend this book to all the psychological thriller fans or those wanting to experience this genre for the first time. Just don’t listen to it before you go to bed!! But it surely won’t disappoint.
I was lucky enough to receive an audiobook with thanks to Britney King and Orange Sky Audio in return for my honest thoughts and review.
This book was a really fast paced thriller that had me on the edge of my seat waiting to find out the next twist. The writing was really great and I loved the dark depraved tones throughout the whole story. The villains in this are legit horrifying because of the corrupt human nature that really exists. I really couldn't predict what was coming next which is always a plus for me when it comes to thrillers. I got a audio copy and the narration was great and completely pulled me into the book! I really cant wait to pick up more of Britney Kings books!
Thanks so much to Netgalley, Publishers and OrangeSky Audio for an ALC to review, all opinions are my own.
Britney has become one of my go to authors when it comes to psychological thrillers. Her writing has come along way since I first started reading her books (and I did enjoy the old ones as well). This book is no exception for what I have come to expect from Britney. It's filled with plenty of twists and turns and characters that make you question everything and everybody because you are just not quite sure if everything is as it seems. By the time you get to the end you're most likely thinking really...was it really him or is there something else brewing just under the surface. Were there perhaps two people working together or is it just one? The obvious answer of who is responsible seems suspect because would it really be that easy or is Britney going to throw us for a loop and it'll be the person you least expect it to be? In order to find out you're going to have to read this book.
I’ve quickly become a fan of Britney King and I can’t wait to devour more of her books. Each one I’ve picked up has been so entertaining and provided a thrilling escape for me. This story in particular felt so believable...a man coming after a woman after she helped put him in prison- pretty much your worst nightmare after serving jury duty. Now Amy has to find a way to protect her family from this madman. I was hooked from the first page and Britney definitely delivered with this one. If you’re looking for a fast paced thriller that is unputdownable, look no further. I know I’ll be adding more of her books to my wishlist.
Part of me wanted to save this book for my first of 2021 because I've read enough of this author's work to know that it would be a wild ride.. Alas, like a kid on Christmas I just couldn't wait and happily devoured this thriller in two sittings.
This isn't for the faint of heart; it, like her other novels, lives up to its characterization as a psychological thriller. Fast-paced, heart pounding, action packed with a heap of crazy and a sliver or two of violence. Everything I hoped for and more!
I couldn't put it down. Brittany King is a master at keeping the reader off balance throughout her stories. A masterful portrayal of a stalker who hides in plain sight. Amy is being stalked and she has to convince everyone that she is not crazy. She makes mistakes and learns some hard lessons along the way. I would highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy being on the edge of your seat while reading. I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest review.
