In September, 2020, the Corgi Case Files mystery series was picked up by Columbine Publishing Group and published under its mystery imprint, Secret Staircase Books. Beginning in 2023, all three fantasy series will also be published under the Secret Staircase Books imprint.
This was fun. The corgis are adorable, of course. And the plotting was complex enough to keep me guessing. The high school sub-plot was clever. The corn maze and the Halloween vibe was fun. And things are looking good with Zack's relationship with Jillian. I like that the dog Sherlock has the ability to sniff out clues, but the corgi-ex-machina ending was a bit too trite. Barely any mention of the wine-business that was the focus of the first book. The author admits he was rushed writing this, to try and get it published before Halloween, and it shows. But I did say it was fun!
Description: When a traveling Egyptian exhibit stops in picturesque Pomme Valley, all hell breaks loose after a valuable artifact is stolen and a dead body turns up in an unexpected location. The prime suspect has already been identified but there’s a catch: he’s over 3,000 years old. Zack, along with corgis Sherlock and Watson, comes to the aid of Detective Vance Samuelson. ( Format : Audiobook ) "Dude, someone stole our pendant." When Zach Anderson inherited an house and vineyard in Pomme Valley, he found himself accused of robbery and murder but a recent and reluctantly acquired corgi helped prove his innocence and led to a friendship with Vance, one of the local police. He named the dog Sherlock. Now, having endeared himself to the residents of the small town by throwing a party and plying the guests with bottles of wine from his store (ironically, he does not like wine himself), he's settled in and now has another dog, Watson, even though she's female. Festival time has arrived in Pomme Valley and the local high school is hosting an Egyptian exhibition but on the opening night, when the grand reveal of the sarcophagus takes place, the mummy is gone and so, too, is a priceless pendant. It looked like the mummy had taken it!
The Case of the Fleet-Footed Mummy is the second in this delicious series about the somewhat shy but irascible newcomer to Pomme Valley and Sher!ock, the corgi who lives up to his namesake's reputation. Wonderfully written with whit and full of fun, occasionally laugh out loud, as the father private Zach keeps getting pulled into close encounters with his small town neighbours. Told in the first person from Zach's perspective, narrator Bob Johnson again perfectly assumes the persona of the reluctant sleuth, his pleasant and well paced reading conveying his sometimes forgetfulness and his opinions of people and places, including an annoying little voice in his head. mr. Johnson also gives all the other protagonists very distinctive and appropriate voices, too, infusing each with a further hint of life over and above that already written in by the author. A really sound performance.
i am not usually a fan of animal centred stories but this book is good, lighthearted fun with a personable and well developed main character. My thanks to the rights holder who, at my request, freely gifted me a complimentary copy, via Audiobook Boom. I am rapidly becoming a fan of this series as related by the excellent Mr.Johnson and hope there will be more to come. Recommended.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is book 2 of the series "Corgi Case Files." I have not read the first book. This is a stand alone story, although there are mentions of events that occurred in the first book [spoiler alert - if you have not read the first book, the solution to the case is mentioned in the second book].
This cozy mystery book has a lot of humor and charm. What a fun and quick read!
Sherlock and Watson, two corgis - one with a severe gas problem - and their owner Zach become involved in a murder mystery of a recently mummified body and the theft of an Egyptian mummy and pendant from a traveling Egyptian exhibit. Zach is a lot of fun and witty -- someone who is enjoyable to be around. The mystery has several good twists and a few historical facts to make it interesting.
I listened to this book and found the narrator - Bob Johnson -- to have the perfect tongue in cheek tone with Zach and his adventures.
In The Case of the Fleet-Footed Mummy by Jeffery M. Poole, Zach goes to the formal opening night of an Egyptian exhibition at the high school in Pomme Valley, Oregon, which Tori, the wife of his police detective friend, Vance, has worked very hard to bring to her school. Exploring the exhibits with his lady friend, Jillian, Zach is relieved not to see a mummy among the artifacts, as he has a fear of mummies. But then Dr. Tarik, the Egyptian specialist in charge of the exhibition, announces his special display, a mummy found in King Tut’s tomb, along with a pendant found among the layers of wrappings of the mummy. But then he opens the curtains to discover that the mummy case is empty and the pendant gone.

I really enjoyed reading this book, the 2nd in a series of cozy mystery genre, with Sherlock and Watson, 2 Corgis being the stars of the books, who have an uncanny knack of solving crimes better than humans!
After Zach was accused of murder in the 1st book (Sherlock kept him out of jail), he became firm friends with Detective Vance Samuelson, of Pomme Valley Police Dept. When he attends an exhibition at the school where Vance's wife works and a priceless artifact goes missing, Zach, together with Sherlock and Watson, try to solve the case, along with Vance; and in the process try and keep Tori, Vance's wife out of jail!
A few minor editing errors but they do not spoilt the book or the storyline. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. There are some great one liners in the book, a good read.
Great fun! Sherlock the corgi, Zack the dog lover, and Watson the new addition help the local authorities with a really messy case involving theft from a traveling museum exhibition from Egypt. The mystery is well done and no spoilers here, but there's lots of twists and red herrings as well as a lot of laughs! And take my word for it, the characters certainly are! Bob Johnson gives the narration just the right spin to make the story even more enjoyable! I requested and received a free audio copy via AudioBookBOOM.
I really loved the first book in the series when I read it but that was years ago and I am wondering if my tastes have changed. I loved that we have a middle-aged widowed protagonist who is also a guy. You don't see that often in cozy mysteries and it is a neat perspective. I also love the doggies! My biggest complaint about this book was it had a Scooby-doo feel to it. The protagonist wavers back and forth in his beliefs about whether a cursed mummy really is loose on the town and the hijinks in this book were a bit too much for me.
When a priceless artifact from an Egyptology exhibit goes missing, Zack and his Corgis Sherlock and Watson are coerced to help the local police solve the case. This is one of those adorable, pet detective stories you just can't help but love. It offers a little romance, a lot of small town flavour and, of course, those adorable Corgis. This is the second book in the series but it stands well on it's own and is well worth your time if you're a cozy mystery fan.
I choose this book because I had read one of the first books and enjoyed it. I like reading about how the corgis help find clues to solve the cases.and how the owner trays to figure out what it means. It's a interesting story and keeps you wondering what the dogs will do next.
Any one who likes animals and enjoys a cosy mystery will enjoy this book. It is an easy and enjoyable read
Easy fun read, but a bit ridiculous at times and the narrator just grates on my nerves. He has this macho frat boy type outlook on life that is tough to connect to.
There is a traveling Egyptian exhibit, and not only does a mummy appear to have escaped, but a priceless ancient necklace has been stolen as well. Sherlock the corgi assists the police in tracking down all the perpetrators (there were many and it got a little absurd) and find the missing necklace. The dogs are adorable.
Fantastic book! It is so much fun to tag along with Sherlock and Watson as they as well as their owner, Zach try to solve mysteries. Zach sounds like someone I would love to spend time with. His sense of humor is great. This is the second mystery book I have read of Mr. Poole's and have to say I love it. Great job for making reading fun and interesting.
Despite some annoying spelling/grammar errors, I enjoyed this adventure. Zack (Sherlock's human) is as clueless as ever, but Sherlock is on the trail of a missing Egyptian mummy and a priceless Nekhbet pendant which once belonged to King Tut. Things get interesting when Zack, Sherlock, and Deputy Vance Samuelson find a not-so-ancient mummified body in the local corn maze for Halloween ...
The first Corgi Case book was great and this one did not disappoint. Sherlock is back on the case to solve another mystery with his very likable people along for the ride. I just wish I could live in this charming little town. This is a must read for corgi lovers and cozy mysteries. I hope there are many more adventures to come!
This was a fun mystery almost completely driven by a couple of corgis. These two cute corgis named Sherlock and Watson were the super sniffers that helped them solve the crime. Overall a fun and clean mystery that is narrated very well.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
If anything, the story was more intricate than the first story. And fun. I found myself laughing out loud with people around me looking at my as if I was mad. I look forward to checking out the next story. I want to see how relationships move forward. I want to enjoy the dogs. And I like the mystery is they are unique and fun
I thoroughly enjoy the Corgi case files. Sherlock is truly a great detective unfortunately, Zack doesn't always get his messages. When an Egyptian artifact goes missing, It's all paws on board. The twists and turns of the adventure are many. It's a fun read.
A nice light read. It has enough of a mystery to be engaging, and the characters are likeable. It's on the light end of fantasy, because of course dogs cannot solve mysteries unless they are named Scooby Doo! There are some implausible events, but because this story doesn't purport to be anything but a cozy mystery.
This was a fun read, had me laughing out loud. Never did find out what kind of books Zack wrote so will have to get the series to find out. Naming the corgis Sherlock and Holmes was a great choice. The dynamic between Zack and Vance the police detective is very well written and keeps the story moving nicely. Really recommend this book. I don't want to mention much about the story line as it will spoil the fun.
I read the first one. I went and got the second. This one isn't quite as good as the first but still entertaining. Little hints and red herrings. Now I'm on to the third. If you like smart dogs...read this.
A good cozy mystery. the owner of Sherlock and Watson,2 Corgis that solve mysteries,is invited to an Egyptian exibit. The night goes wrong and their expertise is needed.A fun story. Bob Johnson was a fine narrator.I was given this book by the narrator, author or publisher free for an honest review.
Anyone who's ever had nightmares from watching a Boris Karloff movie will appreciate this one. No actual horror, but lots of fun as the corgis uncover clues to solve the mystery. Bob Johnson narrates delightfully--he's the perfect voice for our hapless hero.
Second installment in this series. Obviously I love the first so I bought the second. The characters and the dogs our delightful! Interesting and funny! Did not want to put this one down! Will be reading the third installment!
The owner ,dog daddy, is learning to live with his Corgis. And the story is interesting and easy to read. I enjoyed the Halloween and fall season time. I like this dog set of mysteries.📚📚
These books are really funny, farting dogs and mummies. Then there is the murdered body in the maize that has been mummified. Zack, Vance and the dogs, Sherlock, Watson and Anubis have to solve the murder and mystery.
Mr. Poole has succeeded in writing g another great series of books. I love the way Zack has taken to his dogs so quickly. He really seems devoted to them. This book was very easy reading g and very entertaining.
I love the characters, people and dogs! Very enjoyable. Jeffrey has done a wonderful job of weaving together a great mystery. So far each story holds it's own. Can't Waite to continue this series!
