A second chance at a first love.....and she deserves happiness
Jason is the third book in The Carter Family series and is the story of Jason Carter and Carleigh Daniels. Jason and Carleigh are both about twenety-three years old and had grown up together. They were in love and had been high school sweethearts who even dreamed together about what they would name their kids. That all changed within a week when they were seventeen. Carleigh's father got a job opportunity that saw the family pack up and leave town in a week. At that time Carleigh told Jason that they needed to break up and that she did not want to keep in touch with him, even though he had pictured them writing letters and emails so they had a long distance relationship for a couple of years. It is six years later and Carleigh has moved back to the one place that she had happy memories, Swallow Falls. With her is her sweet five year old daughter, Maisey. When she moved with her parents she rebelled by falling into a group of bad kids and one boy in particular. Within six months she found herself pregnant which resulted in her parents marching her and Karl down to the courthouse to get married. They tried to make a go of it but neither really loved the other and things fell apart. So much so that one night Carleigh threw clothes into suitcases and buckled a sleeping Maisey into the car and she just left, driving to Swallow Falls. There she has rented a place in a rundown area and is working part-time as a cleaner. She is also filing for a divorce so she can move on with her life. Jason stayed in Swallow Falls and after high school started painting houses with a neighbor. After a few years of that he started his own business, Swallow Falls Home Decorators. Business is good and he is always busy. One afternoon Jason receives a call from a woman inquiring about the cost of painting the inside of a home. The voice sounds familiar but he cannot place it. Her voice is low and tentative and he can tell that she is trying not to tell him that she does not have much money. Jason offers to come and see the place so he can give her a quote, plus then he can meet the woman who's voice is intriguing him. They arrange for the next morning as she has to pick up her child later in the afternoon. Before they hang up he asks her name only to discover when the door opens that the voice belongs to the woman that ripped his heart in two six years ago. So the next morning when Jason arrives Carleigh was just as surprised as she did not realize that it was him she was talking to the day before, as she had never asked him name. After walking around the place and seeing what needs to be done, and then also finding out how much money Carleigh has, Jason offers to do the work but only if Carleigh also paints and does half. For Carleigh this is an offer that she cannot refuse, as she wants to make a comfortable home for Maisey. As they paint together over the next few days they also catch up. But at the same time Carleigh is holding something back. That something comes roaring back into her life a few days later and comes to blows with Jason. But Jason is not giving up on Carleigh and Maisey as he is not letting her walk out of his life again now that he finally has her back.
This is a story that catches you right from the start with a bit of mystery and it kept my attention the whole time. The characters are nicely developed as they have a shot at a second chance. Life may not have worked out quite how they had both thought it would so far but they are young and able to have everything they wanted this time if they take a chance and hold on tight. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to other readers.

She cut all ties with Jason. Once she moved, she got in with a bad crowd and got pregnant. The marriage just wasn't working. Read what happens, how she ands her daughter cope. Jason and Carleigh were sweethearts until life got in the way. Now six years later she moves back to the town where their relationship first started. This touching story will draw you in and have you cheering this couple on to rekindling their love for a second chance for happiness!
Oh, this was a sweet second chance romance, which I love. The story is short and doesn't drag but we have enough backstory to feel invested in the characters.
