Strange murders are happening in Tokyo. Due to liquid evidence at the scene, the police conclude the attacks are the results of 'eater' type ghouls. College buddies Kaneki and Hide come up with the idea that ghouls are imitating humans so that's why they haven't ever seen one. Little did they know that their theory may very well become reality.

This series is one of my favourite pieces of fiction. It makes me a little sad that a lot of people will never experience this story because it's in the form of manga. I really love Kaneki as a character and how he starts off weak and scared, especially when anime protagonists are commonly the opposite. It made him seem much more real and normal to me and made it easy to emphasise with him as he struggled to come to terms with how his life had been changed forever.

The art is gorgeous in this series and I loved the tragedy element to it, it really made the story much more emotional and is the reason why I often think back to it. This story and its characters will always stay with me as one of my favourite series of all time.
