Lucas has a rare mental disorder called "Chronic Decimation" that compels him to kill every tenth person he meets. A psychologist and a mathematician team up to cure him. Following the advice of a coffee mug, the future of profanity, and the terrible secret behind Tuesdays, all in Chronic Decimation - a new wacky comedy from author Andrew Stanek, whose reputation has been chronically decimated by his writing.
I had no idea what I was getting into with this book, but found it entertaining straight from the start. It was immediately clear that this is a humorous novel and I really enjoyed the opening scenes introducing the three main characters.
I think the originality of this story is refreshing, and I read it thinking of my math teacher friends, and that they'd really enjoy this book!
The routine of going off on tangents at the start of a chapter, to then get back on track was well written, I enjoyed the names of the characters, and I was delighted by the turn of events toward the end of the book - I did not see it coming! I was really glad that Brokewell turned out to be a good psychologist and math does have real life application!
There are a few mistakes in the writing, I think about ten. A lot of these mistakes are minor, although two are incorrect character names. Most mistakes happen during exciting scenes so I imagine that Stanek was so caught up in writing the scene that the errors occurred without him noticing.
I would definitely recommend and read more from this author.
This is a totally different type of book I usually read. I enjoyed it even though some of the dialogue was a little hard to follow. That could be an older age thing lol.I am now reading Apocolypse Economics. It's funnier than Chronic Decimation. They are both worth checking out.
This is funny, off the wall journey following 3 deeply messed up folks. I loved it! I have over 20 highlights that I had to share with people who are similarly insane. Think raw Douglas Adams
