To be honest, I'm not hard to please when it comes to getting a good read but I thought for the subject matter that this book really lacked substance. I was hooked to reading it at first because the blurb mentioned "personal essays" and helpful womanly advice on anxiety/life/faith etc. But if you're looking for a robust, thorough and thought-provoking devotional about Christianity, this isn't it. I anticipated the book to delve a bit deeper into theology and testimonies from a variety of different people, not just Courtney Fidell. Instead, Fidell writes in a simple and casual way that makes the reader feel like they're reading someone's personal diary but it comes across quite self-absorbed. It is all about her and her ordinary experiences. This devotional may help very new Christian women who are interested in learning basics about their new found faith, but fails to fulfill the expectations of disciplined Christian women readers.
Pretty good devo for young people with anxiety but still wanting to find a devotional with an author that isn’t as “churchy” as this author. I know that sounds stupid but she is currently a pastors wife writing this and while our stories somewhat aligned when she was my age and talking about it, I felt somewhat disconnected.
This hit home and was everything I needed that morning. I read this with a friend and met weekly to read together. I love how much I related to this and will read it over and over. Highly recommend.
Courtney has some good stories to share about the ways that God had absolutely changed her life and can change yours! Each devotional is 2-4 pages and packs a lot of encouraging and great truth.
"The world is a beautiful creation by God, but creation can’t satisfy. The purpose of creation is to point us to the Creator to find our identity and worth."
I enjoyed this book throughout January and it definitely helped me a little bit in the mornings through these heavy, challenging days. The message is suitable for people who are new in the faith and/or those who deal with anxiety and depression.
More quotes I liked: Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given.
Grace gives us permission to live in freedom because every sin is already covered by the blood of Jesus. Grace is the opposite of what we deserve or could ever earn, but in His kindness, the Father still bestows it upon us!
You may feel rejected by this fallen world. You may feel rejected by the fallen people in this world. But you will never be rejected by our God.
Every morning we have a new opportunity to call on the Holy Spirit to give us our strength and walk with us throughout the day.
The world and the people in it are broken. They will let us down. But we have a Father that rises above all that and is always available.
The difficult times will find us. Our minds will go to dark places. But we must remember two vital truths: The Lord did not lose sight of you when you found yourself in that dark valley, and more importantly, He is the only One who can lead you out.
The most difficult truth to reconcile was there were people I loved who weren’t believers.
I had to come to the realization that no matter how much I loved the people around me, they were not mine to save. They were first and always the Lord’s.
The enemy is crafty and is good at leading us all to believe we would be better off alone.
It is his goal for us to only have those surface level conversations so we don’t share our burdens and struggle to carry the weight alone.
The first thing I noticed when I got Grace is Enough is the binding and cover of this book is very different and MUCH higher quality than I expected. It's hard to describe but it's like a softcover, but firmer and stronger, and the material on the cover isn't paper but like a soft almost leather. I'm not sure what it is called, but it creates a very premium quality and feel journal.
Now for the journal itself it is what I consider to be a perfect balance of being guided by the author. The prompts are just enough to give some inspiration and spark some ideas and thoughts. I've had some before that were more like books with just a line or two (more for notes than a journal I would say).
The focus of the journal is unique too. It's not just for people who have been "diagnosed" with anxiety. I think it is for everyone and am confident in saying that after going through it. No matter who you are or where you are in life, this journal would definitely help you no doubt about it. Everyone struggles and your fear, anxiety, or worries are going to feel big to you and you shouldn't compare that to other people. That is why I say this journal is beneficial to anyone.
I absolutely recommend this book to anyone who is struggling with anxiety, depression, or wanting to have tools on hand for facing spiritual battles. God definitely brought this to me at the right time and He knew I would need it during the weeks ahead. This devotional does share some of the authors experience but the focus is on God and what God’s Word says. I really loved this devotional and plan on re-reading it later this year.
I was recommended this devotion from a friend. Without reading anything I bought it and was not disappointed! I’m a mom of a three year old and a 8 month old and her stories of motherhood and anxiety related to my life perfectly. Also her talk of grief touched my heart as I lost my mom this year. While doing this devotion I recommended it to three other friends. Needless to say I love it and recommend you to buy it too!!
These devotionals were very relatable. Author, Courtney Fidell, shares personal stories from her life as a mom and pastors wife and then points the reader towards Biblical truth. Ending with a short prayer, further Bible reading, and a reflection question or two. It’s a great way to start or end your day and I would recommend this if your looking for a shorter daily devotional.
This devotional book was great to help me get back into sharing small parts of my day with the Lord. I am a graduate student, work full time in law enforcement and struggle to find places to insert God into the busy schedule.
The devos were short and sweet, with relatable stories and encouraging verses. I wish the entries were a page or two longer because some of them felt unfinished. Overall a good starter book, but now I'm eager for more!
Grace is Enough is a true blessing and a haven of inspiration. It is a powerful companion for women seeking confidence and relief from anxiety. Courtney Fidell's essays and Bible stories resonate deeply, reminding us of God's word as a source of solace. What stands out is the personal touch. Each day addresses common insecurities, offering prayers and reflections that guide our thoughts.
This was an excellent devotional! As women we face all types of pressure that can lead to anxiety and insecurity. Fidell provides easy to read daily devotionals that are rooted in scripture. I highly recommend this!
Great book for basic truths on the daily basis. Loved Courtney’s vulnerability and her stories about her walk. A little too simple for exactly what I am craving for in a devotional, but overall great book. Great for women who have recently started their walk with Christ!
A great devotional that you can turn to when you feel any 30 of the emotions that are discussed in this devotional. I loved it! I read it day by day for 30 days, but I am definitely gonna go back, and I pray that God remind me of this, whenever I feel any of the emotions.
👍🏻: Each day presented a feeling we experience in which God’s grace meets us there. Her anecdotes where honest & connected well to each topic. I looked forward to reading it each day, & it was a daily reminder of how present God is with us.
This is an encouraging devotional for women. Each entry has a personal story, with a biblical lesson. I have not heard of this author before, but I’m so glad I stumbled across this book. It is so meaningful and helpful. This young lady is a wife and mother. Many of her stories are family oriented. I don’t have children, but I can still relate to her stories. And I love how each entry had a prayer at the end. I hope this author writes some more books!
“The whisper of self-doubt can turn into a shout if you continue to feed it. It can strip you of your confidence and steal your joy as you journey forward. That is why you must put your entire trust in Him in every step you take.”
