This book is certainly not a field guide due to its size and weight (pretty much like a brick), yet it is absolutely a beginner-friendly book to learn about birds of North America. It offers detailed descriptions of a species's biological characteristics, appearance (adult and immature), habitat, voice, nesting, feeding, etc. Images of the birds are not painted, but actual photos, which is tremendously helpful for beginners like me as well. It also compares a species with similar species, which I like a lot as well. It's an excellent book for any birder.

This book is an encyclopedia that introduces the types of birds that live in North America.
DK has many bird encyclopedias, but this book is unique in that it focuses on North America.

It has a large amount of content and includes details such as bird habitat, size, and behavioral patterns. The zoom photos are professionally taken and of excellent clarity.

There are many birds that I have never seen before, and I am impressed just by looking at the colorful and beautiful birds. If you like birdwatching, this is a must-see.

This is an 800 page analog version of Merlin. Incredible and so helpful, especially with the segments that highlight the differences between similar species. Surprised at no mention of the ivory bill, could also use pictures of plumage changes with the seasons, but this book is more or less perfect. Very excited to have it weather with me as we both age
