Good narration/easy to listen to this book but the content is extremely generic. Network, join a mastermind, have a morning routine, have a growth mindset, read books, etc etc. If you have your shit together even remotely this isn't going to do much for you. I had read most of the books he references. I was hoping for much more content related to changing careers but instead it felt like there was barely anything related to this topic and it was just a basic self help book. The only reason I didn't give it 2 stars was because of the narration and a couple take aways I'm going to implement such as the 30 day no complaining challenge and writing down my purpose every morning. At one point in the book he says it only took him like 3-4 months to write and it shows. Mostly hot air/fluff but a couple nuggets.

Own Your Career, Own Your Life is a motivational read that covers familiar territory in career development, personal responsibility, managing your career, and personal accountability. Andy Storch writes with clarity and conviction, and there are practical takeaways anyone can apply. This book has a lot of practical aspects on how to develop your own learning/talent management plan.

A lot of his framework is rooted in a self-driven, almost karmic worldview that doesn’t resonate with me personally. I believe purpose is something we steward rather than manufacture, and that true fulfillment in work comes from aligning with God’s calling, not simply mastering mindset. So while I respect his passion and message, the philosophical foundation differs significantly from my own.

Still, it’s worth reading as a cultural snapshot of how career ownership is being framed in secular leadership spaces today — and a reminder of how much our view of calling shapes everything else.

Good tidbits

I read this to find some good tidbits to share with my brother who is struggling finding a career and jumping job to job. I also found some personally helpful stuff. I would say it is nothing I haven't heard but good to be refreshed.
