Beyond The Horizon

He arrived on a warm summer’s day…

Malakai Azaiah Dunbar, a loner whose home was the ocean I adored.
I was eighteen, he was thirty-six.
My foolish heart was stolen by a man who refused to accept I existed. A forbidden kiss sending him back into the arms of the ocean.
I was nineteen. He was thirty-seven.
He was changed. Cruel. Abrasive. Until he wasn't and I gave him something precious.
I'm twenty. He’s thirty-eight.
He’s back but doesn't know I've grown to love him more with every passing year.

Just like the ocean we both adore, Malakai is mysterious, tumultuous, dangerous, and not to be tamed. But this time I'm going to keep him. This time I’m going to make him stay.

**This is a standalone, age gap, contemporary romance with high heat levels and a love story that might just make you weep. Recommended for 17+ readers due to adult content and language.

I really struggled with this one, there was so much narrative telling me how they were feeling on the few occasions they saw one another (mainly horny) but they barely spoke or spent any time together and I just wasn’t feeling the attraction. And it felt very slow. The smut was hot when we finally got there. .

There was little capital made of the age gap, actually they seemed the same age and most of the time I forgot he was older. And what did he actually do to earn a living? Idk but I just don’t find lazy dossers attractive

I didn’t realise this is a spin-off of another series; had I read that I’m sure I would’ve been less bewildered with the big showdown scene featuring some new characters that appeared from nowhere to do something then disappeared again.

Not for me I’m afraid. Ah well.

Connie knew she met her soulmate when she was 18. He’s twice her age and a drifter. She knows she shouldn’t, especially since her grandma kept warning her, but who’s to stop the heart? Malakai doesn’t do relationships, or people for that matter. He has no intentions on changing that for some kid.

MEH. I thought this was going to be so cute but I couldn’t get past Malakai being in love with Connie’s mom at the age Connie is. She’s described as even looking like her mom. Creepy to me, idk.. Malakai was also VERY back and forth, and downright mean to her. She kept going back though which I felt should have showed him how much of a kid she actually is (which he said to her often).

I also skimmed some sections as their feelings were so overly described...

What a great romantic and heartbreaking read for Malakai and Connie. Their story will have you so consumed, you will not want to put down your kindle. Ever since seeing them in a previous book, you will be needing to know why they reacted the way they do. So we get their story in Beyond the Horizon, and it does not disappoint at all.

So get ready for an emotional read. You will be given moments of heartbreak, love, and trying times. You will feel raw at some points, just like the characters.

Connie is a great character, she knows what she wants and will definitely go after it.

Malakai is just how I like my main leads, he is broken in some way with a past hurt.

Watching them come together and their story unfold was a beautiful journey that will break your heart and put it back together. I very much recommend reading this book.

3.75 ⭐️ (minor spoilers)

kinda disliked both main characters like she was an annoying lil brat and he??? don’t get me started on him… Like bro get your shit together and act like the 36 year old man u are. SHE IS THE FUCKN CHILD

Also did they ever wanna address the elephant in the room that he used to have it bad FOR HER MOM 🤠🤠🤠 Like they dropped that bomb and then never mentioned it again 😗

Also there were a lot of things that seemed kinda implausible in this story and tf was that side story when they had dinner with the king 😭😭😭

Also didn’t like the way they got together in the end. I mean this was slow, reaaaally slow to the point where u were like ‘JUST DO IT ALREADY’ and ‘cmon he’s leaving AGAIN???’. I mean I didn’t mind thaat much but I think if you wait til the very end to unite them you should at least make it kinda special and it didn’t feel special :( We didn’t even see his pov when he had his ✨moment of realization✨. One moment it was “no this meant nothing 😡 we will never be together 😡” and then “oh btw I’m ready now so let’s be together 💅”. Like where was the groveling for all the times he wronged her?????

Even though that goes against everything I just said I still somehow ended up liking this book 🤣 I quite liked the rest of their story and I looove me sum good jealousy drama 🥵 Like did book make a lot of sense? not even the slightest. But did I enjoy myself while reading? absolutely

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

I have to say that I really enjoy these books that share a world but can stand on their own. We met Connie and Malakai briefly in the Academy of Misfits series which is highlighted in this book as well but now we get their story. Connie is a new adult when she meets Malakai for the first time. He is years older then her though which gives him pause. Add in some past history on top of his own personal demons to make it that much worse in his mind. She knows better though so she doesn't give up even when he constantly does his disappearing act. An emotionally riveting romance that will keep you captivating until the very end. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.

The issue I had was I felt like the book jumped all over the place and they would introduce characters and then you would never hear from them again. I know this is a spin-off series, but the prologue made it clear that you could read this as a stand alone novel. I’m not sure if there are characters who are the same or if there is more backstory into the grandma because she was the most confusing character to me 🤦🏽‍♀️ one minute she’s a sweet lady, the next she’s involved in a murder plot? It was a quick read that’s the only good part really

If you want slow burn with a lot of pining then this is for you!
I went in knowing it was an age gap, dads best friend and that was it and my god it’s so much more.

It’s completely insta love. Falls hard, fast, gets burned and still wants more. From both sides!

It’s got an ethereal feel and a whimsical setting and I devoured it.

I will say the external drama was fun to read, and added tension but would hit harder if you read the connecting series first. I did not and slightly wish I had, but to be honest I went into this for the romance plot and it delivered in spades with that.

Malakai is absolutely going to be a memorable MMC, a god tier body, broken soul, dark, broody and feels deeper than the ocean. He ticked all the boxes.

I loved Connie too, an old soul at twenty she’s a total home body, knows her own mind and is comfortable in her decisions and body.

A great summer read!

“Sometimes the only way to make someone see you is to remove yourself from their sight…”

I love Bea's writing and this book was no different. I've always liked the idea of isolation and getting away from the world, and now I think this little island is where I'm meant to be.

I loved the mention of Grim and how this is connected to other books written by Bea, it felt like reading about an old friend I hadn't seen for a while!

The tension and longing between Connie and Malakai was perfection, and made for a great read.

This is a slow burn, but so worth the wait.!

Oh my! What a slow burn this one is 🥵

Malakai and Connie are just goals! I love how grumpy he is, he fights her at every turn but ultimately Connie gets her way 🤣

Absolutely fantastic read! If you’re looking for an age gap, I would highly recommend this book.

This can be read as a stand-alone. Characters from other Bea series, will be interconnected so be sure to go and check those guys out as well 🥰

The women of Connie's family are cursed. They will each meet their destined soulmate but they don't get to spend their lives with them. Tragedy will strike, the men die; they will be lost at sea, die in a car accident or suffer an untimely illness. So when Connie sees Malakai Azaiah Dunbar for the first time and feels her soul connect with his, she knows the pain her heart will face. Malakai lives on the ocean, Connie lives on her island unwilling to even leave it for the mainland. There is an 18 year age gap between them. Malakai loved her parents. He will not betray them with their daughter. They can not be together but can they live apart?

I did not immediately fall in love with this book like I have the last few books from this author. Rather, it crept up on me. By the time I finished with it, I was in love. It was insta-love three years in the making. the characters held me spellbound. Connie was so self-assured, yet so unassuming. She was carefree and yet grounded. Malakai was scarred. Another victim of the King. A man, so full of passion but too afraid to love. Love equals loss and pain in his family. The only way to protect himself, to protect others is to never stay in one place, to never get attached. And this worked for him until Connie. Their relationship broke me over and over again. They reminded me of the waves crashing on the shore, sometimes violent, sometimes gentle. The waves have no choice, neither did these two lovers. They were inevitable. So was the passion, the heat, the anger, the protectiveness, the possessiveness, the violence, and finally the acceptance.

There were moments of brilliance in this book. Words strung together that elicited such beauty, such emotion from me. There was a rawness, a wildness to Connie and Malakai's love and their hate. I alternated between pain and hope, anger and fear and very rarely have I needed a HEA like I did for these characters. Lastly, The way each of this author's books have a connection to her other books with some tie between the characters provides me with a ridiculous amount of happiness. They create a book bridge. It makes the world a more intimate place thinking that we are all linked together in some way. Shhh...don't tell me that they are fictional because one day they are going to work their way around the world and include me. Their jagged pieces will find my jagged pieces. Until then, I hope Bea Paige has more beautifully broken characters waiting to share their stories.

✨Age gap
✨Forbidden
✨Angstyyyyy

One of my favourite reads of 2023. I devoured this book!! The way Bea Paige sucks me into her stories within the first pages. I wasn’t able to put the book down, I literally read this in one sitting.

Malakai & Connie were EVERYTHING. You could literally feel the pull between them through the pages. Their chemistry was insanely hot! I loved how magnetic they were together.

I love how Connie knew what she wanted and went after it. She was such a badass heroine. Then you have Malakai, I loved how protective he was of Connie, but he was also such a stubborn character. The slow burn and the wait was SO WORTH IT, when he finally succumbs to the temptation.

The setting of this story was so unique I LOVED every second of this!

If you haven’t read Bea Paige yet, this is your sign! Her Academy of Stardom series, Grim & Beast duet and this standalone are my top reads by her!!!

A masterclass in writing an epic love story

I hate reading a Bea Paige book because I know she will reach into my chest and wrench my heart out but I love reading a Bea Paige book because I know she will reach into my chest and wrench my heart out. This time I think she used an ancient rusty spoon because it hurt so much but I couldn't have loved this book more. This is a story of insta-love but getting to the end is anything but insta. The ending was hard-fought and hard-won.
Connie and Malakai appeared in Family (Academy of Misfits 3) and I was immediately taken with their dynamic but their back story was not explained. When I learned that Bea was planning to give them their own book, I have to admit I did a little happy dance. Although they only appeared at the end of Family, it was obvious that their story would be entrancing and addicting, and so it proved.
Beyond The Horizon is the story of a young woman who knows exactly what she wants and needs and an older man who knows exactly what he could have if only everything in his life, both in the past and the present, was different. Although Connie was very young, she was absolutely convinced that Malakai was her soulmate and that belief did not waver throughout the story. Malakai was much older and life-worn, with a very sad history, and his determination to do what he thinks is best for Connie is admirable and heartbreaking. Their chemistry was so obvious from the moment they first set eyes on each other, sparks practically igniting the pages, and every moment they were together was electric.
In each of Bea's RH series, I always have a favourite but every male character she creates is broken and beautiful and mine, but until now I couldn't pick one of those favourites above the others. Malakai is my favourite of all Bea's broken heroes, and that's saying something. Malakai is definitely just..... sigh. Whisper it softly because it's not really PC these days but he's the protector we all secretly want. It doesn't hurt that he's hot AF as well. (Broken Shores at sunrise, that's all I'm going to say). Malakai was in my heart right from the start but I think what really tipped me over was that I suppose, deep down, we all need a man who loves us so much that he would do terrible things to keep us safe if, god forbid, it ever came to that. Malakai is definitely that man.
All Bea's heroines are also broken and Connie is no exception, keeping an awful secret about the past from everyone, a secret which cuts her to the core but makes her more determined. Connie was strong and steadfast and refused to be told by anyone what to be, do, or think. She knew what she wanted and went after it without wavering, but not in a bratty and entitled way that makes you hope she doesn't succeed. She was kind and caring and a marvellous character and you can't help but be on her side from the first page.
This book is one that will make you laugh and cry, scream and gasp, smile and sigh, and hold your breath from start to finish. I would love to see Malakai and Connie again but their story has been told and is now finished. Bea creates such great characters in great stories that I always want more of them but it would just spoil it to return to these two. I'm just grateful that Bea created them in the first place. The epilogue was perfection and my heart melted completely.
But despite my thoughts above, all you really need to know is that this is an epic love story that will never leave you.

If you are looking for a unique book to read, then you will find it in Bea Paige's new release: BEYOND THE HORIZON. The beautiful writing drew me in right from the start. I could picture the private beach where Connie Silva was enjoying the peaceful place all to herself. She thought this beach brought her pure happiness. Happy to be alive. Then her eyes saw a man in the water. All she could do was watch in surprise and then admiration and awe, as his strong shoulders and powerful arms cut through the water right towards her. When he is closer to shore, she holds her breathe as he stands upright, water running in rivulets over his skin as he swipes his dark hair off his forehead to reveal a face that is terrifying beautiful. Her grandmother had told her that she was empathic. That she had the ability to know when both good and bad things were going to happen, and could understand the feelings of others as well as share those feelings. As Connie gazed at this god of a man, she knew deep down inside that he is the one.

Connie's heart broke, when he looked at her and walked away without a word spoken. Not at all deterred, she followed and would not be ignored. She learned his name was Malakai Azaiah Dunbar and he was no Prince Charming. He is a loner, a drifter, and a man who preferred the wide open expanse of the ocean than human company. He is twice her age. She reminds him of a girl he once loved and is all kinds of off-limits. Not to mention she's the daughter of his best friend and the girl he loved more than life itself. She is so off-limits and forbidden. He would need to put a whole ocean between himself and Connie Silva. No matter what he told himself there is an undeniable attraction between the two. Connie was not aware that there truly was love at first sight, but she was feeling it now. Maybe she was lonely. Maybe she was delusional. Yet she believed that this untouchable, unreachable, unobtainable man is her soulmate. Add to this that her Grandmother told her the women in their family were cursed in love.

This is an epic love story. And the author said, “Sometimes, the kind of love we dream of can only be found within the pages of a book. I can't give you your own happily ever after, but I can give you theirs.”

Firstly I was so in love with the setting of this story. A small, remote island surrounded by the ocean, everyone knows everyone and is practically family. It was so stunning and Broken Shores was my favourite. A private beach that holds so many dear memories.. and the perfect place to make new ones.

Secondly, this book really pulls on your heart strings. Malakai grew up on the island but left when he had his heart broken and he also got caught up in family drama. Years and years later he’s back, and Connie is now present, a part of his past that he didn’t know about, but due to his family, and the age gap, he tries to stay away… that man leaves more times than I can count and even though you understand.. it HURTS. God damn him.

Malakai and Connies ‘relationship’ is a cruel slow burn in all the best ways. You’re rooting for them from the get go but that man is so stubborn I tell ya!! But it’s worth every second because when they come together.. *long whistle 😮‍💨*. But then the bastard leaves again and we gotta fix our broken hearts looooool. It all makes sense when you read their devastating but explosive story.

I would recommend having read the academy of misfits trilogy beforehand. Though this is a standalone and it’s not essential, the blow out at the end does make a little more sense having read the misfits first.

Bea Paige is new author for me that I find thankfully with this book here.

Beyond the Horizon is heart wrenching age gap romance full with angst that will ripe your heart.

Connie Silas is eighteen year old girl, who life with her grandmother on they're island. One day she meet Malakai Azaiah Dunbar and is immediately drawn to him.

This man is unbelievable, from the first meet with Connie he is such a aseholt, but damn boy he is such a man that if you saw him will definitely left you breathless. From the start he was pushing this girl far away from him,but little did he know Connie will not stop for anything to chase what she wants especially that she wants him!

I feel immediately in love with he character especially Connie because she was so carefree, but in the same time know her limits.
Malakai was also amazing, but he's background was dark and make him this lonely man he is now always alone and scared.

The grumpy-sunshine aspect make the story even more interesting and for sure Bea surprise me with this caveman side of Malakai that she show, it's really make me to love him even more.

The book deserve more than five 🌟 and absolutely I will continue to read by this author, because she really make me to forget all about me and to dive in into they're world!

“Every last word, Little Siren. You’re my heart, my soul, my everything. This place wouldn’t feel the same without you in it. Nowhere would. As long as I have you, I have a home.”

This is the first book I've read from Bea Paige. After seeing a TikTok about this book, I just had to read it. I loved the sound of the story and wanted to know more about Malakai.

I couldn't put this book down.. even if I wanted to, I couldn't. I was hooked from the prologue, and I couldn't stop reading.

Connie is 18 years old, and Malakai is 36 years old when she first sees him swimming up to her private beach. She says Hey to him, but he just walks off.

Malakai has a dark past. He prefers to sail and live on his boat then be on land. He tries not to stay in one place for too long because he doesn't want people from his past to find him.

Malakai hides his feelings for Connie, and he acts cruel towards her. He doesn't think he deserves to love or be loved because of his past and what he used to do, but he can't help how he feels for her.

I loved how this book made me feel. It gave me all the feels and the emotions. I had all the hand on the heart moments, swooned oh so much, kicked my feet at certain parts, and welled up a few times.

Connie and Malakai are just everything and so much more ♡

From the moment I first met Malakai and Connie in Family, I have been hoping for their story to be written. These two characters drew me in from the moment they were introduced and I wanted to know why they reacted as they did in Family. This book is their story. It is heartbreaking, emotional, raw, and is the best thing that Bea Paige has written to date. I love Connie. She knows what she wants and she is going to go after it. Malakai is broken in all the right ways and because of his background is hesitant to love. Watching them breakdown their barriers is gut-wrenching at times, but the writing is beautifully done and keeps you wanting more. I went through a gamut of emotions reading this from crying ugly tears to smiling to all the warm feelings. These two will break your heart and rebuild it again by the end of the book. There are appearances and/or mentions of characters from other series and I love all of the connections. It is always wonderful to be reunited with beloved characters and though they are brief, it is still nice. There is a rather large age gap between Malakai and Connie, but for them it works and is beautiful. This is an addicting and beautiful story that you will not be able to put down.

Normally, I don’t really care for age gap romances BUT this was Bea Paige so I went in with an open mind. I loved Connie. Naive but feisty. The story starts when they meet. You get to learn about the characters’ histories throughout the telling of their tale together. Their chemistry is HAWT. Sexy times are definitely not work safe. I was most pleased that Connie wasn’t painted as a totally pristine angel. I would love to see novellas for some of the other Silva women too.
There are some things that you should know if you aren’t familiar with Bea Paige and her other publications. It’s not required reading, and there is enough information in this book that you get a decent picture of what’s going on, but a major event in this book is the major event towards the end of one of her other series (Academy of Misfits). The scene is full enough in this book to make sense but it has slightly less impact without knowing the other players in the event and whatnot.
This story broke me, made me cry, then it made me feel, and then it put me back together. Also, I would love to read the Malakai Diaries too.
edit: While there is Chemistry with the MCs, it is basically insta-love/hate which is the only reason it’s 4/5 stars.

I have read all of Bea Paige’s books, but I think Beyond the Horizon may be my new favorite book of hers. I don’t read a ton of age gap romance, but this is age gap romance done right. This story is so beautifully written and the emotional depth of these characters is truly on a whole other level.

We first meet Connie and Malakai in the Academy of Misfits series so I would recommend reading that first especially if you want to know more backstory on the King and Malakai’s family. Connie and Malakai’s love story spans over several years and is definitely not an easy story. There is so much push/pull and tension between them and at times I felt like my heart was aching right along with Connie. I don’t know how Bea does it, but every time I read one of her books I feel like I’m right in the story with the characters. I very rarely cry while reading, but I always seem to find myself tearing up while reading Bea’s books because I’m so invested in these stories and characters. Highly highly highly recommend checking out Beyond the Horizon (and all of Bea Paige’s other books.)

Such a great read!!

Wow! I fell so easily in love with Connie and Malakai right away. Their relationship is quite fiery from the beginning. Connie is headstrong and knows without a doubt that Malakai is her soulmate but Malakai is running from a past that could break such beauty and innocence.

Beyond the Horizon is a standalone contemporary romance. It’s a slow burn with explosive tension. I also love the little cross over near the end it really did give a bigger perspective however if you haven’t read Family please be aware there are some spoilers!

The characters were fantastically written, their feelings rubbed right off the page and made me catch so many feels. The whole book was written in both point of views so it made it easier to piece together their backstories and where their thought processes are. I also liked how the book was written in parts because you could clearly see the growth in each character.

She knew the moment he rose from the sea that he was "The one".

Nothing mattered except the feelings he stirred within her.

He saw the past in her appearance, and instantly felt the pull towards her but he fought with all his might to stay away.

Ohhh my poor heart has certainly been put through the wringer with this!

I welled up at the distance between their hearts and the time that they lost.

Whispered Goodbyes devastated me and left my heart in bits. I could see how right they were for each other, and how good they could be.

Amazing and insightful, full of true passion and pain. It's simply beautiful yet such a heartbreaking story told from the soul of one of my favourite authors. Different than what I'm used to from her but more than welcome all the same.

If you have read her "Academy of misfits" trilogy then you NEED this it's as simple as that! and if you haven't read it, what are you waiting for!!

Beyond the Horizon is age gap romance. This is a treasure among all of Bea Paige books. Connie & Malakai is a intense emotional rollercoaster. Connie falls for Malakai at first sight but she doesn’t know his past with her parents yet. Malaise knows not to love anybody because of his family but that doesn’t stop him from fall for Connie. But their journey is not without many twists and turns. At times you will want to scream at them then hug them for what’s happening to them. But everything they go through will be worth for their ending.

Beyond the Horizon has some remarkable characters. Bea Paige did incredible job with this book. I love Connie and Malakai from the first start. Their chemistry is so intense and the push and pull between them makes the scenes even hotter. Even though this is a standalone I feel like I read a whole series. This is definitely worth 5 stars if not more.
