How do you make the best decisions that will give you peace and confidence at the end of the day? What if God not only loves you but specifically cares about what you’re facing? Would the choices be easier to make if God gave you advice? 4 Minutes to Hear God’s Voice demonstrates how to actively listen for your next step, whether you pray regularly, feel God is distant, or have never heard His voice. The 4 Minutes is a type of listening prayer that isn’t about frequency; it’s about cultivating a lifestyle that chooses to pause when your world feels uncertain. It’s the simplest prayer you’ll ever do. You don’t have to worry about saying the right words or sounding spiritual enough. Me Ra and her husband have been cultivating this practice for thirty years; it crosses generations, oceans, cultures, religions, and financial barriers. It is the story that shaped their family and changed their world, and it can do the same for you. The only question is, “Do you got 4 Minutes?”

This is an extremely practical guide on how to identify God’s will and live in his purpose. Me Ra shares stories and examples of how she and her family utilize 4 minutes for every significant decision and even those that are less significant.
Disclaimer: I am a Christian who had a vibrant prayer life before purchasing and reading this book. I purchased it because I was looking for something to help me teach my kids how to hear God’s voice.
The first thing to note about the contents of this book is that it does not offer some kind of magical formula. It presents a tool to use when you want to hear God or just be obedient to God’s command to “Be still and know that I am God.” Even though I read this to help me help my children, I found it helped me too. I think the reason I struggle to help my children is that I am not disciplined in the practice of listening. So often, I pray but don’t take time to hear God’s answers. I just expect Him to break into my life, my busyness if I’m being honest, in ways that I can’t ignore. This book has reminded me that I need to take time to listen too. AND it has given me a really excellent tool that will help me cultivate listening as a regular habit.
The next thing to note about this book is that it is not an instruction manual. While it gives direction on the practice taking 4 minutes to hear God, that aspect only takes a few pages of the book. The rest of the book is stories about how this practice came about, has been used, and has affected the author, her family, and many people she has met. This is why I LOVE this book so much. The stories made me laugh, made me cry, but mostly made me in awe of what God does when His people desire to hear His voice and follow it. It strengthened my faith and made me excited about how this is going to change not only my relationship with God, but also my kids’ relationship with God, and even other people who I get the opportunity to share this with.
The last thing I want to point out about this book is that it is not a theological exegesis of scripture. The author is not a theologian. She is a mom, a wife, a professional photographer, a victim of abuse, a regular person trying to follow God, sharing the tool that has helped her hear God’s voice on this journey called life. God uses regular people all throughout scripture. As I read this book, I was reminded of how He continues to use regular people and how He continues to reach into our world in tangible ways. We don’t need to go to seminary for that.
This is a quick read. I started it after work on Friday and finished it on Saturday morning. The stories are engaging. I wanted to keep reading to see what was next. This is a great tool for those who have kids who are in the same boat as me - trying to help their kids know God is real, relevant, and present - AND He knows their name.
I was given this book by a friend who loved it. I did, too! It is a simple concept: Take time away to hear God each day (4 minutes works!). Be still and know God from Psalm 46:10, a scriptural verse that shows God wants this! Don't expect a perfect life if you do this. Expect a life more in tune with the God of the universe Who wants to lead us along life's path.
I can't wait each day to stop and be quiet before the Lord and listen to His voice. I pray you will too.,
This is a very short book but packed with very applicable information. I enjoyed getting to meet Me Ra Koh and her family and to read about her adventures with God and her family. There are some difficult parts as well, which made it so relatable. If you have ever struggled to hear God, this book will give you tips on how to do it in just 4 minutes. I have not personally put this into practice but I know the benefits of being still before the Lord.
Most of this short book is stories about how listening to God’s voice for yourself or on others’ behalf played out in Me Ra’s life, business & family but the truth and discipline of this simple truth is beautiful, doable and necessary. A must read for anyone who claims to know God or love Jesus. If you haven’t trained yourself HOW to listen and learned how God’s speaks to you uniquely then you’re missing out on 1/2 the relationship!!
I truly enjoyed this book. It was eye-opening to say the least. I would definitely recommend this book to someone looking to hear from God. This book was easy to read, clear, and accurately articulated. The featured stories in the book were absolutely amazing and eye-opening. Four minutes will become a routine for me and my husband. (when I get married).
This was the perfect book at the perfect time. It’s almost as if God knew exactly what I needed right now. ;) Me Ra shares her personal and family stories in such a relatable and compelling way, without preaching, but only as an invitation to step in to the same experience of giving God 4 minutes. So simple yet so profound.
We make having a relationship with God so complicated. Other than one mention to the enneagram, solid book filled with faith building stories. Easy read and hard to put down!
This book was just what I needed to start another adventure with God. Every experience shared has lifted my faith in God. If he did it for you, he'll do it for me. This book has freed me to accept that doubt and fear are a normal part of life. It doesn't mean I'm weak, but they cause me to run to God who can quiet their noise and show his strength.
Thank you for your obedience in writing this book. I have been strengthened!!!!
I laughed, I cried, and I was overwhelmed and inspired. Amazing testimony, so relatable, gave me such encouragement. I can't wait to begin the 4 minute practice with my family and experience God's voice for myself!
Just finished this book. Grateful for her insights into hearing God’s voice. Loved it. Heard her speak at Roots Tech this year. She was very open and forthcoming
