Set around Christmas time and Christmas themes, a quick and fun holiday MMF read. The characters are all likable and developed enough to relate. Sometimes silly and sometimes serious and sometimes a little corny, but it worked.
The relationship is the focus and unlike other menage stories, this one touches on more of the real-life aspects of polyamory and plural marriage, even providing a definition of such in the plot. There is some content around "what people might think" and also it comes into play as a "morality" question for the f MC in a legal proceeding to obtain legal custody of her younger sister - it all works out (it is a romance novel, after all) for both the threesome and the younger sister.
There are scenes where their relationship is not accepted by others and creates problems, and even though this is a more realistic portrayal of what being in a IRL three person romantic relationship (and marriage) would likely entail, it does not take away from the love story, in fact, it makes you want to root for the threesome to prevail - and they do.
There is sex, but if you are looking for long, detailed, explicit sex scenes, you won't find them here. The sex is made clear and there is explicit language, but it gets back to the plot in a turn of the page and the focus on their love comes first over their lust and is emphasized in each scene. Disclaimer: the term "scene from a Hallmark movie" is used at least once in this book, if that helps you get a feel for the love tone vs. something more erotically focused.
Though it is a more realistic portrayal, the fantasy for me would be where people can choose to love who they want without the sneaking around, the guilt, the worry about what others will think, the fear of the legal system treating you differently just because you, as a woman, had (or appear to have had) sex with two men at the same time - and enjoyed it - even wanted it.
All the themes of this book are far more common than (at least most men) might know for many women (and perhaps men) and a story like this one cast in that light, with perhaps a bit more of the erotic element played up (it is a whole extra person in bed each time, after all, and three, not just one, simultaneous relationships, emotions, and sexual connections and possibilities) could net four or even five stars from this BookDaddy. Recommend.
