Nothing at Ravenwood is as it seems... All I want is to get out of my small town, where I'm branded a freak just because I happen to wear all black and draw gruesome monsters in my notebooks. I mean, sue a girl for loving horror movies, am I right? When a letter arrives saying I've been accepted to the mysterious Ravenwood Academy for the Exceptionally Gifted, I jump at the chance. Never mind that I'm not sure what I'm supposedly gifted at, or the fact that I don't remember actually applying there. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth and all that. Upon my arrival, Ravenwood seems like a dream full of beautiful people ready to befriend me. There's only one the place is run by Alarick Wolf and his brothers, three surly, thuggish, insanely gorgeous guys. My new friends give strict instructions to stay far away from them. Unfortunately, I'm not so good at taking orders. When girls in the area start disappearing, I refuse to maintain the status quo and fall in line. Alarick and the Wolf boys are up to something, and I'm going to find out what it is. If I have to, I'll take them down myself. That is, if they don't take me down first. Year 1 YA paranormal boarding academy series heavy on high school drama and intrigue, light on paranormal and common sense. This is a solid, if formulaic addition to a popular sub-genre. I think it is a good fit for the target audience, but older readers might find it predictable. Just what the paranormal element is and how far it extends is the mystery that Timberlyn slowly unravels though the course of the book. While Timberlyn managed to get herself into quite a bit of trouble, it felt like the real action didn't start until right at the end - when the book abruptly ended mid-scene. The characters in this book are supposed to be on the younger end of highschool but engage in activities that seem more appropriate for college age or older eg alcohol, sex, and the club scene.
Year 2 Year One was a big mystery with a hint of romance. Year Two is a a love story with a bit of mystery. Timberlyn and Alerick spend quite a bit of time exploring what is between them. There are a lot of relationship shifts in this book. And other shifts too. The huge cliff hanger at the end of Year One - oh yeah, that gets addressed to and only leads to more questions.
The second half of this book delves into those questions and just when you think you are figuring out what is is going on throws you for another loop. The danger and intensity really ramps up by the end. I thought I knew what was coming and did get some of it right, but there were a few things I did not see coming at all.
Whenever the characters ages are mentioned it is jarring to me. Timberlyn is supposed to be 15 in this book. They behave more like college aged students than high school students.
Year3 This book started off predictably enough (you kinda knew where it was going with the cliff hanger from book 2) but then went off in some crazy directions and managed to pull in clues dropped through out the previous 2 books to finally answer questions about stuff that didn't quite add up in ways no one imagined.
This is the end of Timberlyn's coming of age arc, of her finding herself and becoming who she was meant to be. It's a rough journey that comes with a fair amount of heartache, but also tender moments and happiness. Lots of questions answered about how the various factions at play align and the history behind them, but answered in a way that only spawns more questions and opens parts of this world you never dreamed existed. Lots of potential for spin-offs in this universe!
This includes all three novels plus the prequel novella in the Ravenwood Academy series of young adult paranormal mystery/suspense by Lena Mae Hill. The novels need to be read in order, so it’s nice to have them collected in one volume. The story is well written and entertaining and easily held my interest, so I recommend the series to fans of this genre.
I liked the premise of this series, which started with a bullied misfit who dreams of monsters finding friendship and intrigue at a mysterious private academy. There’s a bit of a love triangle here, and a suggestion of fated mates. The plot is interesting, with interspecies tensions and conflicting goals straining relationships, and plenty of surprises revealed. My main disappointment is that while the final novel answers some of the questions posed throughout the trilogy, it leaves many questions still unanswered. I wanted more resolution for these characters.
The characters are interesting, and I enjoyed getting to know them and watching them grow. Our main character, 15-year-old Timberlyn, can sometimes be impulsive and melodramatic, but that makes sense for her age. She is experiencing dramatic changes, learning about her own values and the kind of person she wants to be, and I love that she is willing to stand up for herself and her friends. Timberlyn’s classmates have their own quirks and flaws, and everyone seems to have secrets.
There are a couple of steamy scenes, though nothing too graphic. Be prepared for violence and know that some characters die heartbreaking deaths. This is not a “happily ever after” kind of story.
I really enjoyed the narration by Vanessa Moyen. Her performance was well paced and easy to understand, and I enjoyed the character voices. I think this is a great choice for listening.
The author provided me free review copies of the individual audiobooks via StoryOrigin; I volunteered to provide an honest review.
Bad Moon Rising: The Complete Ravenwood Series was a good read by Lena Mae Hill. Year One: Wolf Moon (Ravenwood Academy, #1) was a great read by Lena Mae Hill. Timberlyn wants to get out of her small town. They have branded her a freak since she wears all black and draws gruesome monsters throughout her notebooks. She receives a letter where she was accepted to Ravenwood Academy. It is a mysterious academy for the exceptionally gifted. She isn’t sure how she was accepted because she doesn’t remember applying there. Everything at the school seems to be like a dream, everyone is beautiful and wants to be her friend. Ravenwood seems to be run by the three Wolf brothers. But Timberlyn is given instructions to stay far away from them, but she isn’t good at taking orders. Some of the girls there begin to disappear and is determined to find out what happened to them. Wolf Cursed: Ravenwood Academy: Year Two was another great read by Lena Mae Hill. Timberlyn is returning to Ravenwood Academy for her sophomore year. She's determined to get answers about the school and students. She has a new roommate who is supposedly just like her. She is still questioning if she can trust Alarich Wolf. Timberlyn continues to question everything because she doesn't get the answers she believes. Year Three: Wolf Song (Ravenwood Academy, #3) was another great read by Lena Mae Hill. Timberlyn is struggling to control her new instincts after being given a second chance at life. She has new hungers that are taking over. She finds herself cut off from her family as well as the wolves. She finds herself friends with the people who hate the wolves. It makes Alarick despise her for who she is around now. She returns to Ravenwood Academy for her third year and everything seems to be different. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read more by Lena Mae Hill.
Timberlyn comes to Ravenswood Academy and meets the Wolf brothers. Specifically Alarick, the alpha. She is bitten by his father and eventually turns into a werewolf. She falls in love with him. But she is captured by vampires and almost drained of her blood, then her vampire friend saves her. The vampires are trying to get rid of the wolves.
I really enjoyed this book. This is a complicated story and they tell it very well. The narrator is a good performer. Definitely not a boring story entertaining romantic.
This was my first book by Lena and it was awesome. This box set was filled with pnr, wonderful cast of characters, great storyline that kept my attention the entire ride.
