Rate this book
In the game of Online Dating, names can be deceiving…
CEO Harrison Steven McGinnis is incognito. Better to use a fake name while online dating when money, connections, and his famous company are on the line.

To save himself from the gold diggers of the world, he hides his face and changes his name to Steve, and still manages to make an amazing connection with a woman named Felicity.

New Year? New boyfriend?
Accountant Felicity Thompson is working late. Committed to meeting her year-end goal, she isn’t leaving her desk until the job is done. Her reward? A date with Steve.

If only the light above her desk would stop flashing, and the run-in with the mega-hot maintenance man would stop making her squirm in her desk chair.

Suddenly, work is taking longer to finish and her date with Steve? Doesn’t feel so exciting. Not when she can’t get her mind off of Harry.

Can her New Year’s Eve be saved?
And who will be waiting for her when the ball drops at mid night?

Short (not even 100 pages) and sweet -- told from both Felicity and Harrison's points of view. And that was the added pizzazz to the story -- getting inside each of their heads allowed their individual personalities to shine through. I adored them both!

So many sparks -- so many laughs -- so many oohs and ahhs! What a charming and delightful way to welcome a new year a bit early. Two of the cutest characters ever and a perfect match! A cute mix-up meet & greet, too.

The only negative -- it ended far too soon! I wish there had been a peek into the future -- even if just a month down the road. I just needed more of New Year's Steve and Felicity -- they deserved a little more!

This was a cute quick little romance. I like most of this authors stories, but I had a hard time with some aspects of this one. The H/h have been chatting on a dating app and are finally having their first date on New Year's Eve. The H is going by his middle name, "Steve" to ward off any gold diggers, since he is a billionaire CEO. The h happens to work at his company, unbeknownst to either of them.

They happen to meet by chance, and when the H hears her name, he knows that she is the faceless woman he is meeting for the first time that night. He decides to keep the h in the dark to get to know her better.

This is where I had major issues with the story. The h is instantly attracted to the H, thinking he is a janitor for the building. He fixes several things on her office that have needed work. She lusts after him and even starts to consider dumping "Steve" in favor of the hottie janitor. Her utter lack of loyalty to the man she has been messaging for over a month was so disappointing. She barely knows this janitor, yes they flirt, but he gives her no reason to think that he's interested in her. He even tells her that he has a date that night, but she doesn't care. All she can think about is the janitor and she considers cancelling with "Steve" so she can pursue this new guy (that she barely knows). This is all played for laughs like "Hey, how cute is it that she's falling in love with this guy and she doesn't even realize that he's her mystery date? hahahaha" I found her crass and two-faced and I had a hard time liking her after that.

Short, still had me swooning! Sara Ney always makes me laugh and these holiday shorts with M.E. Carter are just too cute with the perfect amount of humor. Steve and Felicity were so fun together. And the little cameos were fun too.

DNF @ 38%. I don't really have any legitimate complaints about this book, except that I don't think the humor was for me and I just couldn't get into it. After a couple chapters I also realized that the side characters were from a book I read last Christmas by the same authors that I didn't really enjoy, either, so I decided it probably wouldn't be worth it to finish this one. I do love the colors in that cover, though!

This story is a cute, fun, and light read. New Year's Steve takes place a few weeks after Kissmas Eve. Meg and Adam were the main characters in Kissmass Eve. They are side characters in this New Year's Steve. The main characters in New Year's Steve are Felicity Thompson and Harrison Steven McGinnis. The story is told in dual pov. Both novellas take place at McGinnis Agency (It’s a sports agency). New Year's Steve can be read as a standalone because Felicity and Harrison aren’t in Kissmas Eve. I would still read Kissmass Eve first since some of the characters from that novella make appearances in this novella.

Felicity Thompson works in accounting at McGinnis Agency. She looks like a little pixie.

She wears bunny slippers for comfort and on occasion talks to herself and her bunny slippers.

"Yes, I’m wearing bunny slippers with my business attire with no shame. At least I have a skirt on."

When I look down to see Cutie Accountant wiggling her toes, feet buried inside the most ridiculous, fluffy bunny slippers. “Don’t tell me you talk to those,” I say, stepping into her work space. “Fine, I won’t tell you I talk to them, even though I talk to them,” she teases. “Don’t judge me, I’m lonely. This is not a glamorous gig.”

Felicity really enjoys her chocolate milk too.

"And yes — I am a grown ass woman drinking chocolate milk out of a flower mug. What can I say? It’s not a crime, it’s my guilty pleasure."

For the past two weeks, Felicity has been talking to this guy named Steve that she met on a dating app. They really hit it off and have decided to meet on New Years Eve for their first date. Felicity calls it her date on New Year's Eve with “New Years Steve”. The end of the year is a really busy time at work for Felicity because she has deadline reports to submit. Unfortunately, this flickering light above Felicity’s desk has been driving her nuts and getting in way of her finishing her work. The maintenance guy is nowhere to be found anytime Felicity calls the department. She sets off to find a maintenance guy and ends up mistaking the CEO for the maintenance guy.

This mysterious guy named Steve that Felicity has been talking to for two weeks is actually Harrison Steven McGinnis, the CEO of McGinnis Agency. Harrison is tired of women wanting him for his money and status, so he decides to sign up anonymously on a dating app. He uses his middle Steve as his name. He doesn’t use pictures with face and uses grainy images. He has no idea that the woman he is talking to works at his agency. Neither of them says where they work, but he knows that she is an accountant. When Felicity mistakes Harrison for the maintenance guy, he just goes with it. He likes that someone doesn’t recognize him, so he gives the name Harry. Soon he realizes that Felicity is the same woman that he has been talking too for several weeks. Felicity doesn’t realize that Harry is Steve. It kind of has a little You’ve Got Mail/ accidental Undercover Boss thing going on in the story.

I found Felicity and Harrison's online chats entertaining.

Me: Can’t wait to watch your balls drop with you!
Me: Your balls! Me: The ball! Not your balls! I’m sure you have more than one. The big ball.
Me: Omg I quit. I’m going back into my hidey hole now.
Steve: Hidey hole? I’m dying.
Me: No, I am. Don’t even look at me, I’m hideous.
Steve: LOLOLOLOL. Me and my big ball will see you tonight.
Fucking autocorrect.

Felicity becomes torn between Steve and Harry. She is all set to go on this date with Steve later that night, but she had this instant spark with Harry. She worries that she’ll be catfished by Steve because he seems too good to be true. I found Felicity going back and forth about Harry and Steve funny.

"Down girl. Remember New Year’s Steve? But Harry is so nice. And hot. But mostly nice. And he’s here, in my office, whereas Steve… is still just an idea of my perfect man. I sigh. Isn’t this always the way it goes. Dating Land is in a severe drought and suddenly it doesn’t just rain hot men, it pours. Just my luck."

Harrison ends up spending so much time at the office doing repairs that he has to scramble to figure out a date for later that night. Sheila is back in this book and she is a hoot. She was the coworker who kept bothering Meg in the first book. She is in her 60’s and works in the office and is always on the prowl for a man. She’s actually ends up being helpful in this book. She helps Harrison come up with an idea for his date. I wanted to see Sheila’s reaction to Felicity and Harrison dating.

I like the story and was happy to see a little more of Meg and Adam in the book. Meg and Felicity are good office friends. Also, Harrison and Adam are good friends. I wish that Harrison and Felicity would have been in Kissmass Eve.

I thought Harrison and Felicity’s first date ended up being really sweet. Harrison put a lot of thought into it. I like that Harrison was down to earth and didn’t like attention.

I agree with Harrison that I think Jack could have maybe fit on that door (Titanic reference).

I love the reason Harrison gave for why he jogs. It had me laughing.

I liked that Harrison and Felicity were both quirky and funny. I thought it was cute that Harrison liked to watch Hallmark movies. He said that his favorite holidays are Christmas and Valentine's Day. He hasn't has anyone to share Valentine's Day with but he would love to have a special someone to go all out for on the holiday.

I wish that there would have been an epilogue at the end of the book. The story ends on their first date. I wanted to see what happens after New Year's Eve. It would have been nice to have a little bit of a time jump. It would have liked a scene with Meg, Adam, Harrison, and Felicity together. Overall, I really enjoyed the story. I wanted to see more of them as an actual couple.

Safety Info

No ages given for the character. I assume Felicity(h) is in her 20’s and Harrison(H) in his 20’s or 30’s.

Some Tropes: Secret identity/mistaken identity- Harrison uses his middle name Steve on the dating app. He doesn’t show pictures with his face. Felicity mistakes Harrison for the maintenance man and he doesn’t correct her. She thinks he is Harry the maintenance guy.

Accidental Undercover Boss situation. I guess a little You’ve Got Mail chatting online/online dating.

Felicity and Harrison meet on a dating app called LoveSwept- It’s a non-hooking up dating app for professionals. They have been chatting for two weeks. They plan to meet in person for a date on New Year’s Eve.

Felicity says this is her 3rd match on the app in two months. She has been disappointed when she met other guys in person. She says that she has been single for the past year and has cobwebs in her basement.

Harrison isn’t a manwhore. He says that he hasn’t dated a lot. He doesn’t want one night stands and clingy gold diggers. He wants something meaningful like his parents.

Admittedly, I haven’t done tons of it, because let’s face it — I don’t exactly have the time to meet new women every weekend. Nor do I have any intention of sleeping with random strangers just to get my jollies off. Not worth the headache and the chance I’ll wind up banging a Stage Five Clinger I can’t get rid of once she’s been to my condo in the sky, or seen my expensive car, or had a taste of the good life I can provide.

I’m in search of something meaningful, not a gold digger. Unfortunately, there are plenty of those around. I’ve known that type almost all my life.

He hasn’t been on a date in months and said the ones he was on weren’t worth mentioning. He mentioned not getting laid in 4 months. I don’t know if he was talking about something in the past though.

Not to mention, Shelia has the tendency to gossip with our clients. Like I need Lebron Sutton-Super Bowl MVP two years in a row- gossiping with the receptionist and knowing I haven’t been laid in four months. Which has happened before.

Harrison is a smart guy. He says he would never send a dick pic and thinks guys are crazy that think it’s photogenic. Lol. He doesn’t want to do anything to jeopardize his legacy. You read about a lot of heroes doing dumb stuff, so it’s nice to read about one that uses his brain.

No OW/OM drama-The only thing is that Felicity is torn between her attraction to Harry the maintenance man and New Year’s Steve. They are the same person.

There is just some kissing at the end of the story. There is a scene where Harrison mentioned giving himself a hand job in the shower before his first date with Felicity.

No epilogue-the story ends with their New Year’s Eve/New Year’s date. I wish there would have been an epilogue.

New Year's Steve has it all. The leads are endearing, and I appreciate that Steve/Harry/Harrison isn't an asshole inflated with a domineering ego. Plus he doesn't seem too focused on money for a CEO. Felicity reminds me of an odd mix of myself and Felicity Smoak from Arrow. She has an adorable nostalgic sense of wonder. She loves comfort and can be cutely awkward at times. But she's rightly confident when she needs to be. These two leads work so damn well together, and it all feels genuine. The dialogue is sassy, just a touch sexy, flirty, funny, and witty. Could I use anymore good descriptors? The plot flows smoothly. Each side character has their own purpose and different personalities. The concept isn't anything new, but it's done pretty perfectly. I enjoyed it so much I can overlook syntax and grammar errors. It definitely gives readers a sense of a classic Sleepless in Seattle New Year's Eve. That combined with You've Got Mail. It's sweet and festive. Readers will definitely be able to devour this novella in one night or day. A lovely must read of 2020.

Perfection

I'm in loveeeee! Sara & M.E. are two of my favorites and I squealed with excitement when I heard this book was being released. These two women have a knack for creating banter that will make you snort like Felicity. Felicity & Harrison had me giggling and swooning the entire book. It is such a great holiday book that it almost makes me wish that I wasn't an introverted book worm who prefers hiding in her room....you know if the world was open and we could celebrate NYE.

Perfect holiday treat!

These two authors just have the magic touch together ❤
This short is just so wonderful! The conversations flow so well and honestly the only thing I would change is that it feels too short. I would definitely enjoy an epilogue or an extra chapter at the end even though the smile has yet to leave my face 🤩

3.5🌟’s.

I love it when these two authors collaborate together. They both have a quick mind with wicked wittiness. The story line was good, and I enjoyed how they connected and were headed for a great NYE date. There were some inconsistencies or overlapping of writing but all in all I enjoyed it.

Another super fun story from this duo!
Taking place in the same office building as their last story-kissmas eve.

This story has accountant Felicity on a dating app and finding a connection with Steve and when they plan to meet on their 1st date ( New Years Eve)

The rest is filled with the fun characters from the 1st story and a very fun twist.
Well done on writing a very entertaining story!

New Year’s Steve is a book that will leave you with a smile on your face, happiness in your heart and the need to tell everyone, “YOU HAVE GOT TO READ THIS!” Yes, that’s right ALL SHOUTY CAPS because this story is just so good.
Steve/Harry/Harrison is all the things that we want in our book boyfriends. Charming, rich, hot and handsome, he won my heart. Felicity is a shining, blinking light (you’ll get that reference once you read this book 😊) that you will immediately want to have as your BFF. Together, they are perfect and their story is one that will make you just want to sit for a few minutes with a giddiness factor of 10.
Sara Ney and M.E. Carter are an outstanding writing duo. They bring a magic to the storyline with humor, true to life situations and romance. If you haven’t read Kissmas Eve before, once you finish this book you will definitely want to read Adam and Meg’s story.

Quick and cute

Playful, funny, and easy to devour in one sitting, this holiday novella is kinda exactly what I expected it to be. It's got the banter and dialogue that Ney is known for, and the same kind of feel as this writing duo's other holiday novella, Kissmas Eve. This isn't a complete love story, but it is a fun, low angst holiday read. We get the sparks of attraction, the banter, and then the hint of something more between these two. I loved the humor and the tone, so it's just the right kind of low angst romance for the holiday season.

The story follows Felicity, an accountant who is excited to finally meet the guy she's been talking to online. Steve has definitely got Felicity interested, even if it is possible that he's catfishing her - she's never seen his face, after all. But when Felicity spends a few hours at the office on the holiday, she runs into another guy who catches her interest. Harry is the maintenance guy (or so she thinks), and they strike up an easy conversation. Now Felicity finds herself torn between two guys, and she's not sure what to do.

It's quick, easy, and a lot of fun. This is no deep romance; it's just a cute, quirky holiday story - but these authors do that well. I loved Steve/Harry, and appreciated that he seemed like a genuine, down to earth guy. There's essentially zero angst, just some comedic moments and a touch of romance. Would I have preferred this as a full-length book? Absolutely. But I liked it quite a bit.

‘New Year’s Steve’ is a holiday special book about finding love over the Christmas holidays. This book was absolutely adorable and hilarious and I enjoyed every second of it.

Felicity Thompson is an accountant at The McGinnis Agency, who’s petite and pixie like with a good sense of humor. Felicity is also currently searching for love. In her quest to find love, she created an online account on this dating app, where she met this wonderful guy named Steve or so she thought....

Harrison Steven McGinnis is the CEO of The McGinnis Agency. Harrison is tall, handsome, helpful and attentive with a good sense of humor. Harrison has had a tough time finding love without simultaneously garnering the attention of gold diggers, so he decided to go incognito on the dating app where he met Felicity.

Harrison nor Felicity knew of each other, until everything came to a head prior to their first date on New Year’s Eve. This chance encounter was very steamy, but also very hilarious!

This story was fairly short and it mainly focused on the buildup to their first date. I must admit that my interest has definitely been piqued and I really would like to see how everything turned out after their date on New Year’s Eve.

Overall, ‘New Year’s Steve’ is a light and fun read for the holidays. If you’re in the mood for such a book, then you should definitely give this book a read.

3.25 This duet pair of novellas by Sara Ney and M.E. Carter were the perfect bridge in that confusing time and space between Christmas and New Years where nobody knows the day of the week, what they are doing, or where they should be.  The two stories have a similar premise with anonymity being a key factor, a light epistolary plotline, holiday festivity, quick resolution, and being low-angst reads that would be great for anyone that might need to bump up their reading challenges at the end of the year.

Kissmas Eve happens right before the McGinnis Agency holiday party where the MMC and FMC are coworkers who are mutually attracted to each other despite never having had contact but are also both attracted to their e-pen pal that they’ve met through their company’s intranet (yes, you see where this is going) but are *also* instantly attracted to the stranger they meet in the dark during an elevator mishap.  Suspect reality and just go with it!

New Years Steve occurs right before the new year with two more employees of the McGinnis Agency.  This time, the FMC is in the accounting group while the MMC is the CEO.  They are chatting to each other on a dating app without realizing they work in the same building but also run into each other during a quiet day af the office where the MMC is dressed down and the FMC ends up feeling guilty for being attracted to the handyman while also anticipating the date with another.

Oh, yeah. It's another holiday at the McGinnis Agency and there's more romance in the air. Fortunately for Felicity (and despite her fears otherwise), this hookup doesn't happen because of a temperamental elevator. Instead it comes about thanks to a dating app, a case of misdirection regarding Harrison's name (the misdirection is for good reason, mind you), and a romantic New Year's Eve date (thanks to sassy Sheila, thankyouverymuch!).

One thing's for certain, it definitely isn't boring when it comes to finding love at McGinnis.

So. Felicity and Harrison. They've been flirting on the dating app and they're ready to meet in person. She doesn't know Steve is really Harrison McGinnis and he doesn't know she's an accountant working for his company. Basically, their date could have been a disaster of epic proportions.

But it's not! Thanks in big part to Sheila's help in planning a kick-butt off-the-cuff date and Felicity's understanding nature. Fun, flirty, and just a good time all around. *thumbs up*

Short, cute and sweet

No cliffhanger
Standalone
Told from both POVs
Online dating turned office romance

This book was a short cute read. Felicity is an accountant under a major deadline who is using her upcoming date with Steve to make it through. Steve is actually the CEO of her company, only she has no idea his name is really Harrison and he has no idea he is falling for someone who works for his company.

Right before their date she mistakes him for a maintenance man and he realizes who she is, but she still has no idea who he is, so when he tells her his name is Harry, she now has guilt because she is interested to 2 guys.

What will she do when she finds out Harrison lied about who he is? Will they enjoy a kiss at midnight on New Years or will Felicity feel betrayed and leave?

Another book in the Kissmas Eve series. I think I like this one better.
The CEO and one of his employees match up on a dating app, not realizing that they work for the same company. They spend time chatting and plan a date, meanwhile they meet in person but only the CEO knows since he's been hiding his identity on the app to avoid gold diggers...
Meanwhile she's torn between the "maintenance" guy she just met and is attracted to, and the guy on the app she is also attracted to, even though she doesn't know what he looks like and has a date with soon.

Hysterical!!! The humour is over the top. Funny satire about office romance without knowing its office romance. Loved how down to earth the !ain characters, Steve and Felicity, are. This is a good story for anyone 15 and over. Clean, emotionally Adequate, funny. Highly recommended to all to read.

Cheesy and a little unfulfilling

We get a lot of time learning about the quirks of each main character. But little page time is given to show the development of their budding relationship. And the end feels a bit abrupt.

I loved Harrison and Felicity as a the H and h and as a couple. And the story was sweet and low on the dramz scale. My only gripe is that it’s not a full length ... just saying because I’d like to read about these two cuties hooking up ...
