I never thought of seeking revenge until now. My past is not pretty. My family life is not wholesome. My home is not secure. So I’m living in a new place with people I don’t know and going to a new school with strangers. Everyone knows the rules, but me, I run right over them. You’re not supposed to stand up to Lowell Bartlett. He is everything that is… Low. Down. Dirty. I’m told to worship the ground he walks on and blush when he glances my way. I just can’t turn the other cheek after being humiliated, but I can’t run away. He wants to break me, and he wants me. He can’t have it both ways. Not with me. Low is book one of the Suffolk Academy Series. This is a dark high school bully romance. This book is not a standalone and is part of a series.
Low is the first book in the Suffolk Academy book series by Lilah Walker. Deposed by her mother with her grandparents, Aleta has to assert herself against rich and spoiled brats at her new school, the Suffolk Academy. But the worst is Low, who has targeted her from the start and won't leave her alone. I liked the story from the beginning and it leaves enough unanswered questions at the end of the book so that of course I also want to know how things will continue. I didn't think the story and Low were that dark! But I was very fond of Aleta. She (mostly) does not accept the crap of Low and also defies him. I'm not so sure about Low's character yet. I just don't know what makes him tick. But that's also because only two of the chapters are written from his point of view and of course you hardly get any insight into his thoughts. All in all a book that I read in one day and now want to read the sequels of it!

A Dark Depraved Obsessive, Manipulative Bully. Yep. Lowell, Is A Piece Of Work
Aleta Saunders, is a seventeen year old girl who’s life is upended when her mother decides to head back to Florida, and to her parents. Both are wealthy retirees in a Palm Beach mini mansion.
Twenty-four hours after arriving, Aleta’s mother up, and leaves, deciding to run off to France with her boyfriend of six months. As you can expect, this news does not go down well with Aleta, because now she realises this was her mothers plan all along.
So, in Florida she has to stay, and get ready to attend the elite Suffolk Academy.
To start with, Grandma Judith is really selling this SuffolkAcademy. Seriously, do you think I the old bird has shares in it?
Okay. Usual story plot line unfold: Aleta is at the Academy 5 seconds, and we are already introduced to her female sidekick, Katelyn
“The guys” are all tall good-looking that looked like they stepped of the pages of a Calvin Klein ad” - Authors usually use this description for the main males lead... OR They use GQ as a reference.
Lowell Bartlett,
“Lowell can look all he wants to, but there’ll be nothing between us.”
We ALL know this statement isn’t going to be tue. And boy, Oh boy, how wrong this turns out to be.
By page fifty-one, that other bully romance clique, the mean girls finally make an appearance. Ringer leading, Janyce
Oh and let’s not forget the obligatory school assignment pair up... Yep the usual plot tropes keep coming. It is the school assignment, where Lowell makes his move in his “private” study room.
WOW! ...Lowell Bartlett...
WHAT A PIECE OF WORK THIS GUYS IS. Controlling Egotistical Possessive Can I say ABSOLUTE PIECE OF SH....
Aleta is no better. She’s so compliant and submissive. There is no sign of the tough New Yorker we were lead to believe she was. She doesn’t want to could a fuss while being, well, basically sexually assault by Lowell because, she would be humiliated. THEN, proceeds to be debased by an absolute A,hole sadist AND be humiliated.
Lowell is off the charts psycho.... and yet! Aleta is probably just as bad. I thought, okey. The girl has had limited sexual experiences and she’s just enjoy getting off but, the way Lowell speaks to her, and treats her is mental abuse.
This book is bothersome because of Aleta’s (almost) total submission. The character at the end is almost completely different to the girl who arrived in Florida....And, not in a good way. It’s like the author couldn’t quite figure out which direction she wanted to take her in.
Towards the end it just becomes a catalogue of scenes and moments of Lowell finding new way to have sex and play with her.
Seriously, I just want to scream at this girl to WAKE THE F UP!
And the end.....Wow! ...NOW he has her right where he wants her. Lowell doesn’t love Aleta. He loves controlling, manipulating, and playing with her. Annoying read. **
Style: Young Adult Romance (High School Dark) Story: 3/5 Sexual: OK Enjoyment: 3/5 Male: Rich, Popular, Bully Series: Book 1 (Cliffhanger)
I wouldn’t say this was a bad read for me, but I feel like certain scenes weren’t necessary. If I could cut, paste and delete I would have certain things. It started out interesting as the author is painting us a picture of the players and the school. Once the main characters were established and Aleta and Lowell had their first interaction, it went flat for me personally. This is only because for months all Lowell ever did was stare, which he used as intimidation.
Lowell, to me seems like a well calculating psychopath who is also sexy. We got a bit of his POV in the story, but not much maybe 2 or 3 chapters. It was enough to know his thoughts a bit of Aleta. Aleta, was your typical book smart girl. She is the new girl and it seems she isn’t doing well making that many new friends. The author gave us weak but strong at times character which is ok for me because it balances out the pull and tug of both main characters. We got a bit of physical intimacy, but would have liked more. After the story picked up a little more for me, I became interested again. I wouldn’t say the cliffhanger was a climax for me, it felt just cut off. I am interested to see if Katelyn, will get her own story. We were introduced to another friend of Katelyn, but don’t know what happen to her.
Overall, not bad, not great and believe it has only touched the surface so far in book 1, should be interesting to see what the author does for book

***I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s definitely about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the stories you read. I hope this review was helpful.
This is supposed to be a dark high school bully romance. I found it engaging but bland as far as the genre goes. “I don’t think someone with Lowell’s capacity for cruelty is even imaginable” did not match the events.
Lowell was supposedly a cruel monster, but Aleta's insta-hate felt unsubstantiated. Sure, he crowded her in the bathroom. Sure, he demanded she answer his questions, call him her God. However, the situations seemed like a Dom-Sub enactment (although I don't read those types of romance), and he was trying to train her into the type of partner he wanted. Despicable? Maybe....maybe not. She had the right to refuse but didn't.
At first I thought it would be a reverse harem. Lowell hung around two other guys, and that usually means RH. But those friends were not defined with personalities nor did they affect the plot.
Her grandparents were wonderful, though. Forced to take in Aleta after her mom absconded to France (which was questionable in itself...), she discovered that her mom had given her the wrong impression about them. Yes! I bonded with Aleta right there. When I rediscovered my dad after years of parental separation, I found out he was a decent guy! The lies angry and bitter parents tell...
Having gone through anorexia, I understood Aleta, and maybe that is why I read the book. Thirty years later my husband still panics when I mention my weight or the word "diet." I wish I liked her more, though. She really was a wallflower. 🥺
Lowell is a real piece of work there is nothing to like about this boy hes and abuser and mite just be up to some really bad stuff. Aleta is caught in the middle but how she can even be falling for her bully is beyond me hes psychic her grandparents are oblivious because she wont tell them her only friend is just as week as she is. And Aleta her mom has abandoned her for a guy and now she's missing. This book ends on a cliffhanger. If Aleta dosent stand up for herself Lowell is going to continue to control her.
I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book via Booksprout and this is my honest review
What a great bully romance! Straight away I was hooked on this. It is most definitely what I would call a proper bully romance, the hero is arrogant, dominating and basically an a$$! He wants Aleta and will do anything to get her, he scares her, manipulates her and definitely tries to control her!! What i really love though is the way Aleta fights back! I seriously cant wait to find out what happens in the next book!

This book was awesome! This is the first book I've read by author Lilah Walker but I will be reading the next book in this series soon. Lowell Bartlett is the king bully at Suffolk Academy. Aleta Saunders has had to move from NYC to Florida for her senior year of high school. On top of that, her mother left her in the middle of the night with her grandparents that she hardly knows. So when she starts school she tries to fly under the radar. Somehow she gets on Lowell's radiar and she knows thats going to only bring trouble. This book ends on a cliffhanger.
I think I hate Lowell! He a sadistic jerk and I don’t know how he will change his tune so that he is a hero instead of the villain. You only get inside his mind a bit but that little bit you can’t help but hate him! Aleta is strong in a lot of ways and weak when it comes to Lowell. Their story has just begun so I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Well wasn’t expecting that! I thought it was going to be the normally school bully and romance read but this was not quite that! There’s way more going on and I can’t wait to find out what it is!

I read this book in two hours it was a struggle to put down but mostly due to confusion and jumping from one moment to the next worth a read if your into darker bully romance I don't think it's enough for that
I enjoyed Lowell & Aleta's book. It was an emotional & intense read. Looking forward to seeing what happens next. I received a free copy of the book. And am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
Had I know how short and incomplete this book was I would not have started it. The writing could be better and characters that are not personalized suck.
Got this despite the reviews, because sometimes you just want some brainless entertainment right? Well. Suppose I got what I wanted- I definitely feel I have less brains after finishing it.
