This bundle includes the first 3 books in the bestselling Witches of Half Moon Bay series. An action-packed urban fantasy with a heavy dose of paranormal romance. Witches, werewolves, & WTF?!
I’m what you call normal by day, and woo woo by night. As a college student, I spend my days in class and my evenings selling sage to PTA moms who do moon rituals to manifest better parking spaces. It doesn’t help that my best friend is a cat who likes pizza, and a “night out” includes hand delivering mysterious packages to the local “coven” of small business owners that repeatedly invite me to their meetings—clothing optional.
My life is weird. But it’s not magic. Magic isn’t real.
At least, that’s what I believe–right up until the moment he walks into my store.
Alex Channing is rude, brutish, and a constant pain in my ass. He’s also the hottest specimen I’ve ever seen. When he miraculously saves me from certain death, at the hand of a monster whose very existence shouldn’t even be possible, the reality of who—and what—Alex really is can’t be ignored. Neither can the existence of the monsters who hunt me.
Because it turns out, magic is real. And the only thing I’m more in danger of losing than my life—is my heart.
Heather Hildenbrand lives in coastal Virginia where she writes paranormal and fantasy romance with strong-willed heroines and dark, grumpy heroes who’ll burn the world down for their mate. Her most frequent hobbies are cuddling with her giant goldendoodles, riding country roads on the back of her husband’s motorcycle, and avoiding killer slugs.

I just love box sets because you get to binge without having to wait for the next one. Sam is a complicated girl in the beginning of this story, but as time goes by things begin to make sense to her. I read and listened to this and I enjoyed it
The first three books in this the Witches of Half Moon Bay series by Heather Hildenbrand. There are wolves, gods, witches, magic, and more. The story is about one woman who is believed to be a recarnation of the moon goddess, and trying to save the wolves, but he is out to destroy all the wolves to make her pay. Half Moon Bay is the place where it all happens.
A good paranormal read to take you away for a few hours.
Good story overall, but really struggled to get thru the 3rd book. Skipped quite a bit. Wayyy to angsty and drawn out. I'm not vested enough to wade thru three more books to get to the end. Sorry.😞
The first three books in the series in one box set. First of all, the books are not bad - I just did not like a big part of them, so this is just my personal opinion. Book one, sorry to say, I did not like at all - it sort of started in the middle of the story, and in hindsight, it was one huge introduction to the protagonists and their characters (or lack of thereof). Full of what I call teenage angst (even the supposed adults); the main characters were swimming in self-pity, and enjoying their inner monologues. Book two was marginally better, at least there was more happening, and the female protagonist was getting out of her self-pity woe-me party long enough to actually try and do something about the situation she was in. Book three was either the best so far, or I just got used to it. Female protagonist actually getting active and trying to save what she is supposed to save, even against the general opinion. All in all, I cannot say I liked any of the books, and I really was tempted to just ditch them after book one - I would have shortened one and two and combined them, to be honest. The only one marginally better was the third one, but I am still not tempted enough to get the remaining books to see if she manages to save everything and everyone. A lot of the characters introduced in the books seemed very shallow, including at parts the protagonists. Reactions and events were a bit far-fetched - there is such a thing as talking to each other, especially if you are the one having to save the werewolves from extinction, or the one tasked to guard her and keep her safe, and not hiding behind self-pity. One complete book about the protagonist's memory blocking and the reason behind it - way too long in my opinion, and stalling the flow of the story. I cannot complain really as I got this box set from a promotion and did not actualy have to pay a lot of money for it - that would have hurt.
I deserve an award for actually reading all three books
Boring and inconsistent. In need of proofreading. The story did not at any point draw me in and I found myself constantly scrolling through FB and reddit and basically anything in order to not read this book. But I payed for it so I had to read it
Note: The review is for the first book in the box set, I loved the story and it just keeps getting better. I have read and reviewed all three books in the set individually and those reviews can be found on Amazon and Bookbub.
A Witch's Call is the first book in the Heart Lines series by Heather Hildenbrand and it was great. I listened to the audio narrated by Kelly Pruner and she did a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life.
The story is told from two perspectives, the main being Samantha Knight with Alex Channing's point of view here and there. Sam is witty and a little sarcastic but overall a good person who has been going through a lot in the past few years. Sam has PTSD symptoms, she is scared of everything, especially men, she cries for no reason, and she has withdrawn from not only society but also from the people who know her. She moves across the country so that her loved ones don't realize that something is wrong and she tries to find the answers she needs.
Truthfully Sam lives with anxiety and that is a very relatable thing, and she is also in denial about all the things that are going on with her, which is also relatable. I like Sam, she is quick-witted, a good person and her personality just mesh well with me.
One of my favorite things is her interactions with Alex, something in him brings out her feisty side, she doesn't take any of his grumpy crap. Alex is in deep with the supernatural world and he knows weird stuff has been happening with Sam and feels some kind of connection with her. Alex is all broody but is a good person, he's a little sad and a little hard on himself. Something about him just pulls at my heartstrings while also annoying me, which I think is pretty much how Sam feels. Something about Sam and Alex feels right, things are going on with both of them and I have a theory about what's gonna happen, I'm excited to know how they are gonna turn out.
The story is sort of a slow burn, not too much excitement but clues to Sam's past and the mystery about what's currently happening and how the characters interact is what moves the story forward. I feel that this book is to ease readers into the world before things get super crazy. I love the characters and their interactions with each other. My favorite side character is Marabelle who is the owner of the occult store that Sam works at. Marabelle is a happy and wise hippie who is determined to help Sam. She is a little whacky and most definitely stands out but I like her as Sam's guide and there is most definitely something mystical about her. Then there is RJ who is Alex's roommate and a bundle of contradictions and very laid back and friendly type but has a serious side.
A Witch's Call is the first book in the series, getting readers all setup for what is to come. Secrets were revealed, a destiny is coming forth, angsty romance, magic, werewolves and so much more. The series seems like it's gonna be an interesting one and I am excited to see what happens next.
Book 1 does a great job of introducing us to the town of Half Moon Bay and everyone who lives there. We meet Sam, a timid human girl surrounded by the supernatural, at least you think she’s human. . . As Sam is forced to confront a world and a power, she hid from herself for years, causing her to block out what is happening around her, until her life is put in jeopardy for ignoring everything. Alex is struggling to find a way to rid a poison from his body and he travels all over trying to find a cure, landing in half moon bay and meeting Sam.
Book 2: Samantha’s memory is back! Now she needs to figure out how to use her power and save the wolves! The scared person Sam was when she lost her memory is starting to fade away as she gains confidence in herself. Alex drives me a little nuts with his narrow way of dealing with what is happening to him. I did like getting to know more about Alex’s past, but his not opening up and sharing what he is thinking with Sam makes me frustrated with him. I feel like so many problems between the two of them could have been handled if he would have just shared his thoughts with her and encouraged Sam in her power, instead his bottling everything up seems to weigh on Sam’s confidence. I loved the relationship between Sam and RJ! RJ is the best and I am so glad he is there for Sam through all her ups and downs. I love that she has Harold in her life, he is so funny and a great sounding board for Sam. Getting to learn more about the Hunters and Wolves and the back story of how they came to be was so cool. Sam working for CHAS has me a little conflicted. Sure it’s awesome she has access to all their resources, but I still feel like she is kept in the dark more than she should be and that is leading her into a very dangerous position of not knowing who is on her side and who is against her. Book 3: Alex has me shaking my head. I wish he would have talked everything through with Sam and trusted her to make the decision vs making it for her. Now he is the one paying the price for magic and hurting everyone around him. He gives Indra power and influence over him and it seems the cure is so much worse than the illness he had. I love the growth Sam continues to have as she keeps learning more and more about her powers and how she should use them. I love Britney! I was so worried she was going to turn against Sam and I was really wrestling with that. Again, her lying to Sam ended up being a big mistake IMO. I just wish everyone would stop trying to decide for Sam what she should and should not know.
Kelly does a great job narrating all the different characters and bringing the story to life.
I would recommend this series if you: Love Paranormal Stories about Witches and Wolves. Love a good vs evil story where the main character must go on a hero’s journey and grow throughout the series. Like characters that make you love them one minute and then make you want to scream the next.
Witches of Halfmoon Bay books 1-3 by Heather Hildenbrand and narrated by Kelly Pruner are a set of books surrounding Samantha Knight, a human dropped into the supernatural world to save it. Book 1 spends its time on getting Samantha to believe in the supernatural world, when she is spending much of her time forgetting things. Book 2 is trying to help Samantha learn what she needs to know to save the world. Book 3 is Samantha using what she has learned, and continues to learn, to save Alex, who has been cursed. Kelly Pruner does a good job with feminine voices, but I had a hard time figuring out which male was talking until it said who it was. Also the male POV was not done in a masculine voice. In my opinion, this would have been a perfect example for a duet narration. Heather Hildenbrand has done an amazing wonderful job with world building and storyline. Each of the three books in this set continues to grow with the characters, but not continously tell you things from previous books unless they are pertinent to that dialogue or thought. Would I listen to this book/series again? Yes Would I recommend this book/series to others? Yes. I think that it's well written for young teens and clean enough for older people who don't want lots of steam. They are sweet enough for me to tell my mom about them. That is a HUGE compliment from me.
I'd like these books but I didn't love it the Protagonists annoyed the hell out of me her constantly not understanding and being so childish was very frustrating even when she did the right things and I felt for her she just annoyed me all over again. but otherwise it was promising
An incident that happened to Sam five years earlier has left her broken, but that part of her that is broken isn't something she remembers. She suffers from PTSD and has no idea why except that it's eating her up inside. When strange things begin happening to her, things that make her wonder if she's losing her sanity, she's saved by a handsome man who she isn't sure she can trust or if she should.
Alex Channing has issues of his own. He has poison traveling through his veins that has him scouring the world for an antidote. When he ends up in the same seaside town as Samantha Knight, someone he saves from a werewolf. But when she looks up to him and begins to trust him, she discovers that he has secrets too. Secrets that could destroy any trust building between them.
I began by purchasing the first book in this series but was so drawn into this story that I ended up buying the rest of the series. Though it took me months to read due to time constraints, I was absolutely enthralled by the characters and kept on the edge of my seat by the twists and turns as the story progressed. It was exciting and driven, and it had my emotions in a constant spin.
I read a lot of books in this genre. Typically after approximately the first 1/3- 1/2 of the book I pretty well have it figured out and know essentially how it’s gonna end, who’s good, who’s bad, etc. I found this box set very intriguing in that it kept me unsure. I really HAD to read the next volume because there was so much I hadn’t figured out or was excited to learn in the next volume. I was intrigued because it’s so rare for me, and it made me want to research the author and read more of her work. There is a cunningness to her writing. She draws the reader in, then kind of offers a metaphorical sucker punch with a plot or character twist that’s so out of the blue, but still just fits. She is also very good at creating characters. Ones you love, ones you hate and ones you just can’t categorize. I highly recommend this set! I also look forward to the next!!
The book is told in dual POV. We meet Alex and Sam. Alex is a well trained Hunter and he’s on the hunt for a cure, and Sam is a college student who is trying to find herself. At some point their worlds collide, and that’s when the fun begins!! Throughout the series we get to see Hunters, werewolves, and witches. It was such a fun listen and watching Alex stumble along the way was kinda nice since he is swoon worthy. It’s nice to knock a guy off the pedestal occasionally. I would recommend this book-set to anyone who enjoys reading paranormal romance books. Mainly this series focuses on hunters, witches, and werewolves. 16+ due to some mature content in the book.
Audiobook: I felt like the narrator did a well job portraying Sam and Alex. The inflections she used were great and kept me listening till the very end.
4.5 stars for the first three books of this series. Book one gives us discovery, book two is acceptance and building alliances, and book three brings us face to face with the darker enemies. Sam goes through some pretty significant revelations, and she has to deal with darkness she didn’t realize existed, a supernatural world that she is part of, and a future that is uncertain. Throw Alex into the mix, with an angsty push and pull between them, and it makes for a fast paced paranormal journey.
The series gets progressively better, the more we learn, the more in depth the story gets, the more interesting and exciting. By book three, Sam is really learning to find her footing in the supernatural world and how she might fit in, and find her own voice and stand up for herself. I imagine we’re headed for a very strong, very powerful witch with her by the time we complete this series!
But I’m not gonna lie, Sam really got on my nerves there for bit. The constant whining and crying got old and I found my self yelling at her to “snap out of it!” a la Cher from Moonstruck. She gets a little better by book three so I’m curious how she turns out by series end.
Alex was a total heartthrob! But I feel like he should’ve communicated more open with Sam. However, then again he risked setting her off on a crying spiel.
I loved RJ and Brittany! They really had the best friend/got your back roles down. Even Harold was a keeper.
The narrator did a pretty good job overall. But sometimes her male POV’s overlapped on the voice inflection so it got difficult to tell who was who.
First, although not overwhelming, (especially the third book) contained enough typos to be distracting. These weren’t misspelled words but rather sentences that were missing words that would complete the thought. My primary issue with this trio of books is that the writing just did not hold my attention. I’ve read short stories by this author and they were great. However, in full length novels she drags out the angst to the detriment of the reader. Both hero and heroine came off as whiny, immature brats. I almost found myself pulling for the wrong side. I haven’t decided yet if buying the last three books in the series is worth my money. Shouldn’t you care how the story ends?
I received an audio version of this boxed set for review: all opinions are my own. I was sucked into this story. Sam was a great protagonist. She didn't fall into the fantasy tropes that get used so much. Instead, she was her own person and I was excited to follow her o her magical journey. The first book starts off great, drags a bit in the middle, but the ending is awesome. The second doesn't have that issue and was great entertainment. The last one changed tone a bit. there were some jokes I wasn't expecting (while there is nothing wrong with these jokes, it just seemed out of place.) But overall, I love this first boxed said. I look forward to seeing what happens next.
Witches of Half Moon Bay Series Box Set: Books 1-3: A Witch's Call, A Witch's Destiny, A Witch's Fate (Witches of Half Moon Box Set, Book 1)
Witches of Half Moon Bay Series Box Set: Books 1-3: A Witch's Call, A Witch's Destiny, A Witch's Fate (Witches of Half Moon Box Set, Book 1) I truly enjoyed reading this series and 🎧 listening to this series when I couldn’t read. I love Sam and Alex, so much going on!! So much to untangle friends from the past, a brother that was unknown !!! A very bad witch trying to kill Sam !! I definitely love this series and recommend this, now onto the next series box set
Absolutely love Heather Hildenbrand! The first 3 books are amazing! I love that this series is a spin off of Dirty Blood series, which I fell in live with! I'm enjoying the continuation into Sam and Alex's life. It's full of truths, secrets, action, emotion, love, sacrifice, choices and deceit! Kelly Pruner is an amazing narrator and really brings the personalities to life!
We get Sam and Alexs story in this box set. We met Sam and Alex in Dirty blood series and it would be advised to read that series first as it will fill in a lot of blanks. Werewolves are being infected and Alex is dying from a a bite and learns that the peraon who can save him is Sam but she jas no clue what she is or how to do it. There is a bigger plot with her magic and you will want to learn more.
This is a set of three books in one! Not so long that they stretch on forever but you’ll sense when you’re drawing to the end of each book.
You’ll be invited into a world where werewolves are going rogue and old magic is required to save them. Throw in a relationship or two, a trip to Guam and a few crimes and the result is a book set that’s worth a read.
This is a really good series so far. I have enjoyed the characters and the storyline a lot. The emotion and interactions between these characters is great, the lies, hidden truths and uncertainties that our heroin experiences make for a mysterious and entertaining read. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
I liked the story but I am not crazy about the cliff hanger in the second book. I didn't get too mad because there was another book in the set. The last book in the set ended in a, not good place, but acceptable I guess. It did make me irritated that I could not afford to purchase the next set of books in the series.
Alex is a hunter that goes after feral wolf shifters. Sam has lost about 3 years of her memories but what she doesn't know is that Alex was there the night her memory was altered. Sam has to learn about her past to face her future. I highly recommend this book and series.
Long drawn out three book cliffhanger. Because this was written in alternating points of view, it dragged these books out even more. This was an extremely clean book, however, cutting up and killing werewolves was somewhat graphic & bloody. After three books one would hope that some questions would be answered, so new ones could appear. Nope. I will not waste my time on the second set.
Told from a dual POV, Sam and Alex. The storyline and characters were well developed with mystery and action. The story tugged on the emotional strings which kept me reading until early hours of the morning. At the end Sam finally sees and learns about her magic and what she can do with help. A good storyline highly recommended.
That after reading 600+ pages you wanted me to read another 3 books to complete the story! Big disappointment! Also apparently you were so eager to publish that your books were full of errors! Will NOT recommend these books to anyone nor will I read this author again!
This boxed set was a fun little read, albeit very predictable. My biggest gripe is that there were so many typos and grammar errors it was distracting. If I hadn’t enjoyed the books as much as I did, I’d have quit reading them.
From beginning to end I have be hooked and have not wanted to put my kindle down. The storyline is great keeps you going wanting more just the way a good book should. Loving every bit of Witches of Half Moon Bay can not wait to read the rest!!!!
Young immature characters. Inconsistent reactions, thoughts and abilities. Learning about the facts of a situation and then ignoring the facts makes for a frustrating read. Cliffhanger.
