Lexi Graves Mysteries #14

Mission: Possible

Rate this book
After PI Lexi Graves is approached to investigate an accident which has left the homeowner, Sophie Takahashi, in a coma, she quickly realizes the case isn't quite as clear cut as first appears. For one thing, Sophie's injuries are inconsistent with her supposed accident. Secondly, her husband is suspicious she might not be who she says she is. Who really is the woman in the hospital bed? And why would someone want to hurt her?

As Lexi ponders the merits of the case, she's caught up in a bank robbery. The heist crew are clearly professional, yet not a penny is stolen. With the police and FBI sniffing around, the nervous bank manager needs their help. There's only one small problem: he won't tell them what's missing.

Tracking down a mystery attacker, confirming an identity, and solving a bank robbery? Just a regular week for Montgomery's most peppy PI!

I can't believe this is the 14th book in this series! Each book is 5 stars, this one included. Lexi, Solomon and the rest of the crew from the PI agency are involved in two major cases. One a bank heist that has the robbers leaving behind the cash and the other a mysterious woman in a coma. I love how Camilla writes this series. The characters are varied and each is interesting in their own right. The characters grow and evolve through the series which keeps it interesting and has me anticipating the next book each time. The relationships are fun and the mysteries are puzzles. I spent another sleepless night because I just couldn't put this book down.

Really enjoyed this.
It can be read as a standalone as the author recaps on some events and people but probably best to read series in order.
Closed door bedroom scenes.
No cheating, other woman or man drama.
Some humour esp with best friend Lily.
Several mysteries to solve, some things were easy to put together but the motives and full involvement was good.

Just okay

I am a huge fan of the Lexi Graves series but found this book disappointing. Past books have been humorous with the wacky family and the situations Lexi gets herself in. I always enjoy the banter between Lexi and Lily. This book was seriously lacking in these areas. Don't get me wrong it was still a good read but it was not what I have come to expect from this series. Also, the mystery was blazingly obvious from the beginning.

I am not sure that it is better than the last few, but I am sure that it is Great and that it is at least as good. Ever book in the series is awesome but the later ones have become my favorites. I have loved watching Lexi grow up and become a really strong investigator, something that Solomon could see early on. The early books were fun and I recommended them to all my friends who enjoy cozy mysteries or mysteries with lots of laugh out loud humor, but the later books are ones that I would recommend to ANY of my mystery loving friends. The fun still continues but mostly on a more mature level. It have been a joy to share Lexi's experiences!

I requested and received an ARC of Mission Impossible but I also ordered it as soon as possible. This is a series that I reread at least once a year.

Mission: Possible is book #14 in the Lexi Graves Mystery series by Camilla Chafer. Lexi Graves is now Mrs. John Solomon, but she is still known in the PI business as Lexi Graves. If I was married to a man as hot as the description of John Solomon, a man that, in my mind's eye, resembles L. L. Cool J, then I'd want everyone to know my last name was the same as his. Anyhooo! Lexi is a beautiful young woman who, in my opinion, has legs that look like Reese Witherspoon's from Legally Blonde. These legs are shown on the covers of many of this series' books.

One of Lexi's sister's-in-law, Alice, a nurse who is married to Lexi's brother, Daniel, asks Lexi, as a PI, to help her patient's husband find out what really happened to his wife. So, Lexi meets Austen Takahashi, who insists his wife, Sophie, did not just fall accidentally from the balustrade of the house they are renovating. He believes Sophie was attacked, and he wants to know why. Sophie is in a coma. When Lexi hears Austen's story, and investigates the site where Sophie fell, she, too, believes this was not an accident.

After leaving the hospital after seeing Austen Takahashi, and before she investigates the Takahashi property, she gets a call from Solomon, her husband, saying he needs her to stop by the office to get a bag of cash (10,000.00) and take it to the bank because he has a meeting to get to and can't make the deposit himself. So she goes to the office, grabs the bag of cash and heads off to the bank. Instead of going to the bank branch she usually goes to, she decides to go to the downtown branch. While there, a bank robbery occurs, but the robbers don't take any cash, not even the bag of cash Lexi has. Nearly everybody in Lexi's immediate and surrounding family are cops: her dad is a retired officer; all three brothers are police officers; and plenty of aunts, uncles, and cousins are police officers. In fact, you can't even spit in Montgomery without it landing on a member of the Graves family. So she know that the best way to avoid a shooting in a robbery is to do what the robbers say and not do anything that would make them shoot you. However, a couple of off duty cops from the bank are not very wise, and one of them makes a move, one lonely guy up against 6 bank robbers. Needless to say, the fool gets shot in the leg. Lexi claims to be a nurse, and the robbers allow her to apply pressure to the wounded guy's leg. Be sure to pay close attention to the brave little boy in the bank because he is a vital witness and doesn't even know it. The robbers do not take any money, so what are they after? They make the bank manager take them to the vault that holds the security boxes. What are they looking for, and did they find it?

As if the above two incidents are not enough, the bank manager offers Solomon a hefty check to find an item that was stolen from the bank vault, but he won't tell them what the item is or who it belongs to. Lexi figures out both cases she is working on, with connections between the Takahashi case and the bank robbery. But guess what? I figured out the Takahashi case about 100 pages before Lexi did. I mean, all of the evidence was foreshadowed all the way through the book. The clues were amazingly specific. It is somehow irritating that the author of this book didn't have Lexi immediately pick up on who Sophie Takahashi was.

The only real gripe I have on the writing of this book was the "whom" and "who" factor. I'm an English teacher, and there were way too many "whom" that should have been "who". Correct grammar is "to whom it may concern" or "For whom the bell tolls..." where "to, for, or from", some sort of preposition needs to precede the usage of "whom". "Who" will suffice in nearly every other scenario. "Whom are you talking to" should be "Who are you talking to" and so on.

I still gave this book 5 stars because it was a great story, and it kept me interested in the connection between the two major storylines.

TOTALLY OBSESSED WITH LEXI GRAVES! I get so excited when I find out there is another installment in the Lexi Graves series, and this book was no exception! This book focuses on Lexi’s professional world and working as a PI, while the previous books involved a combination of her love life and professional life. In the beginning of the book, we see Lexi somehow get involved with a bank robbery after taking on a new client. While she comes out of the robbery unharmed, something doesn’t sit well with her around it and thankfully her husband decides to take the case on because I have a feeling, she would’ve taken it anyways. While she juggles two cases, we get the typical humor of Lexi and her personality as she investigates, and she stumbles upon the knowledge that the two cases she’s working on involve each other! Once Lexi starts putting all the pieces together and combines both cases, she solves everything and saves the day once again. The suspense of both cases really kept me on my feet, and once the link between them was found, I was on the edge of my seat putting the pieces together myself! Can’t wait for the next installment!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Of all of the Lexi Graves novels, “Mission: Possible” was my least favorite. It was slow from the start and slowly began to warm up about one third of the way through the read.

What was a he problem? Dualing P.I. Cases took center stage which left the read a more analysis of the cases rather than the relations between characters. Don’t get me wrong there is some family dynamics and sexy moments between Lexie and her new husband but not enough in my humble opinion.
This series was built on the quirky nature of Lexie and h r crazy family and friends. When you lessen the time we read about the family or spread those moments too sparsely over too many family members it just feels disjointed.

The plot is was clever and well written but this read felt like filler: a novel that doesn’t really move the series forward. I know you can’t win them all but after the stellar read of book 13, I was looking forward to this book but was disappointed. Hopefully, the next installment will put this series back on track for me. I truly hope so!

Lexi is on the case again. Actually 2 cases. One is a case of “who did it” and the other is a case of “who is it.” Lexi agrees to help the husband of a comatose lady who may not be who he thinks she is when he suspects her accident wasn’t accidental at all. She also finds herself smack dab in the middle of a bank robbery where the robbers don’t take the cash. Who is lying in a hospital bed in a coma and why did someone want to put her there? What was taken from a bank security box and why won’t the bank president tell Solomon PI Agency what it is? Finding out the answer to both of these cases once again puts Lexi in harms way. We get to spend time with many of the family members and FBI friends of Lexi as we follow along on these adventures. I recommend this for a quick mystery with some fun thrown in for good measure.
I received this book as an advanced reader copy and was not compensated for my honest review.

Loved this book! This is another winner in the Lexi Graves series. She is called to investigate a suspicious fall, and finds a much bigger mystery than she ever imagined. As readers have come to expect, there is plenty of craziness blended in a fun mystery. While parts of the mystery were predictable, some parts kept me guessing until the end.

One thing I've really enjoyed in this series is how Lexi has grown and changed over the years. I love her relationship with Solomon and how their relationship has evolved and matured.

If you enjoy the genre, you will love this book. While it is part of a series, this is a stand alone novel, however, it's so good that you really owe it to yourself to read them all. The author is on my must read authors' list.

You know when you find a series, fall in love and then wait with baited breath for every new story? Well this series is one of those for me I fell in love with Lexie Graves from the very first book and now 14 amazing adventures later and I am still hooked and very much looking forward to the next adventure.
I love how Lexie has grown over the series and even though she is married now it hasn’t changed her all that much it has made her stronger though because she now has Solomon at her back 24/7 and seriously who wouldn’t want that??
With a few cases taking over all the agencies time it’s hard to piece everything together to find the answers but these guys never give up and Lexie especially is amazing at sorting out puzzles.
What a great mystery I love how it all tied together and ended.

Lexi solves the case again. Lexi is smart and funny. I love the dynamics with all the characters. Her mom cracks me up, always taking classes at the community center. The romance is off the charts. It is just an all around great series. I can't wait for the next one.

This is another great read for anyone who wants to enjoy a book without thinking about their troubles. literally laughed out loud on several occasions. You won't regret reading this one, or any of the other Camilla Chafer books.

Intriguing web of deceit

At first I was disappointed that there was very little quips Lexi (Chafer) is known for.
But I think the gravitas she used is best. Many different cases arrive at Solomon's agency - bank robbery, possible attempted homicide(s), and cases in the past are all intertwined.
I found myself losing sleep reading to the end - stumped. I was pleased with the ending and Lexi's increased involvement in cases. She had more autonomy. I liked the focus on her and Solomon instead of Maddox. I was happy Mom had a back seat.
Great job!

Another fun Lexi read! I am a fan of this series and always enjoy another installment.
I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a more light-hearted mystery with a strong female lead.
Although there was less relationship development in this book, there was still the fun banter between characters that Camilla Chafer is known for. Over the course of the series you can really see Lexi grow in her investigatory skills. I can’t wait to see what the next book brings!

I love Lexi!

I have loved this series from the very first chapter. It’s one of the funniest ever written. Lexi and Lily are two women after my own heart. They are my spirit animal. I hope the author never retires this series. The multiple mysteries were outstanding (there’s never a doubt) and the family dynamics and dialogue just round the book out to make a perfect read.

Love Lexi! I have so much fun with this series. I love that Lexi is a smart, strong female. I enjoy all of the characters and their dynamics with one another. As usual, the storyline is fun, engaging, and entertaining. While I can often predict the “whodunit,” it doesn’t take away from my pleasure in reading the story and being back in the Lexi world. I recommend!

I enjoy this whole series of books, but I have to say this may be the weakest in the series. I think what I enjoy with this series is the interaction between Lexi and Solomon, Lexi and Lily and Lexi and her family (including her work “family”), and I felt that aspect was a little lacking in this book. As for the two cases to be solved, you could figure them out pretty early on.

A fun romp

This is a fun romp with a familiar cast of characters from the previous 13 books. More than the past books, this one does little to maintain all of the characters carefully created by Chafer in her past books and is mostly flat out Lexi sleuthing to figure out the mystery of the woman in a coma.

Disappointed

This could have been another great Lexi book, bit it wasn't.
The plot was obvious very quickly, and left little to look forward to.
What really bothered me was making Lexi seem smarter than the professionals. C'mon. I noted so many instances of this. It was sad.
I loved the previous books in this series, but I struggled to finish thin one.

I love this series so much. This book has the same wonderful characters with mystery, adventure, humor, twists and turns, and a satisfying conclusion. I didn't love this one quite as much as I love most of the rest in the series, but it is very entertaining.

The answer was too obvious

I usually love this series but part one of the crime was so obvious that it took all the fun of reading it. I think the series has lost a big part of what made it so fun.

I really like this series and this book didn't disappoint. Lexi is caught in the middle of a bank hold up and also helping a man find out what happened to his wife.
With all the going on and Lily missing being part of the steakouts, Lexi is hoping to get a lead.

Great mystery as usual

I love the Lexie mysteries. All the characters are so great you feel you have known them for ever. I would love more of the family dinners. They were a hoot. This was a terrific story.

I still enjoy these books but I would wish for some more development in the relationship area (kids?) plus the mystery of the woman and her brother was so obvious. I thought Lexi was dense about that one. Plus once more cases they work on are linked.
