Johnstone Men on a Mission. A Hunting Party Massacre.
Two legends of the American West, Preacher and MacCallister have always fought for justice. Even when all parties were guilty. When all hope was lost. And when all the killing started...
WHEN ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE
It's one of the great mysteries of the Old West. The unexplained disappearance of a hunting party of Prussian nobles who entered the American wilderness--and never returned. Now, years later, the Prussian government demands an explanation. In response, the U.S. Army hires Preacher and Jamie MacCallister to join their search party--along with a band of Prussian soldiers led by the sinister Baron Adalwolf von Kuhner. Some believe it's a hopeless mission, that the original party was slaughtered by the Blackfeet. Others think there may be survivors, most likely women held captive as slaves. But it doesn't take Preacher and MacCallister long to learn the horrible truth...
This is no rescue mission. It's a massacre in the making. And when the hunters become the hunted, all hell breaks loose...
William W. Johnstone is the #1 bestselling Western writer in America and the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of hundreds of books, with over 50 million copies sold. Born in southern Missouri, he was raised with strong moral and family values by his minister father, and tutored by his schoolteacher mother. He left school at fifteen to work in a carnival and then as a deputy sheriff before serving in the army. He went on to become known as "the Greatest Western writer of the 21st Century." Another great team up between two of Johnstone’s iconic characters, Preacher and Jamie McCallister. Preacher and Jamie agree to guide a search party into the heart of Blackfoot territory to find out what happened to a missing group of Prussians 5 years earlier. Both mountain men have a tendency to attract trouble and with both of them together all hell is sure to break loose.
Preacher and Jamie MacCallister is some of my favorite characters by William W. Johnstone and J.A. Johnstone. When All Hell Broke Loose is the latest adventure in this series with both of them. Out in shops September 28th. In this book they are asked to help figuring out what happened with a company of Prussians five years ago in Blackfoot territory and is someone still alive? Its a dark story of power struggles and treachery and a lot of fighting for survival. It is another great western from this creator of so many fantastic series. I must thank @kensingtonbooks @netgalley and @pinnaclepublishers for giving me this advance copy and @williamw.j.a.johnstone for writing it. #Netgalley #WhenAllHellBrokeLoose
A Preacher and Jamie McAllister western, (by Johnstone and company), is about a rescue mission for our frontier boys who are asked to join Prussian and American soldiers to see if there are Prussian survivors who disappeared years ago, rumored to be attacked and taken as slaves by the deadly and hostile Blackfoot tribe. Among the Prussians who were attacked is Royalty (one in line for the throne), countesses, and their servants. There is a 5 yr span between the attack and the rescue mission.

The reader guesses right if you see lots of trouble coming on the horizon, and yes, according to the book’s title. “All Hell Breaks Loose” before, during, and after this mission. Full of action, heavy on fighting, it’s definitely every man and woman for themselves
Of all William Johnstone's many Old West characters, the old mountain man Preacher is at the top of my list. He's an authentic back to nature live-off-the-land man who respects nature, believes he is always his own best defense, and lets no one get in the way of justice and righteousness. In this latest, When All Hell Broke Loose (Pinnacle 2021), a Preacher-MacCallister Western, Preacher teams up with his most reliable friend, Jamie MacCalisterer, and his four-legged companion, Dog, to find a party of 'furriners' (a group of Prussian nobility led by trackers on a trip through the American West) believed (hoped) to be captured and enslaved by local Indians. Though the three work best alone, they are joined by a mixed group of American Army soldiers and Prussian fighters who might not have the best interests of the lost party in mind. They follow sightings shared by mountain men who report seeing white captives among the Indian tribes. The fact that the reports are few and the group was lost five years ago doesn't dissuade Preacher or Jamie:
“If it was easy, it wouldn’t be worth it...”
Another excellent Preacher novel that reminds me why I love this series about as much as any western series I’ve ever read.
There is no such thing as a bad Johnstone western. Each series is built around main characters whose belief in the law and family is absolute, even if they've had to be reformed to get there. From Preacher, the original mountain man to the Jensen family to Perly Gates, to.....well, you get the point. Many times, characters from one series will show up in another as supporting hands. The communities are true to the era, clothing, guns, food and troubles are all what you'd find if you looked them up in the history books. No two stories are the same, each character or set of characters is unique and so are their stories. The writing is skillful, readers are pulled into the story and you will laugh and cry right along with the characters. I made the mistake of picking up a Johnstone western my uncle was reading. Ive been hooked ever since. Now I share them with my reading family and will continue as long as new Johnstones are released.
The story was a good one, with Preacher and Jamie great lead characters, and Lomax something new to enjoy. A mule Skinner life must of been interesting. I enjoyed the story line a lot and it was interesting the thoughts that popped into my head with a slightly different story line. Must be fun to write and have that scenario happened to a writer as he or she roles along. Keep them coming Jo!!!!!!! Great pairing!!!!!!!
Of the Johnstown books that I’ve read so far this one is no exception…a great read. As usual it had plenty of action. There was a backstory to bring us up-to-date with the characters. Just like all the other books in this series this one did not disappoint. I recommend it and this series to anyone wanting to immerse themselves in the Old West.
I have always enjoyed stories about Preacher and Jamie MacCallister. Each in their own rights are good stories to read. But when they are together th stories get better and better. I would recommend this book and their other books to everyone.
Another great book by the Johnstone's. Their travels, their fighting abilities and their senses again keep you glued to the story. Can't wait to read th.e next one!
Great writing in this book as all of them. Throughly enjoyed the book and storyline Great characters and struggles in the mountains I would highly recommend this entire series
An interesting read but entertaining enough that I will probably look for another one in the series. Reminds of the western comics that I read as a kid.
Another unique tale with so much action and adventure it's hard to keep up with it. The storyline is well thought out and keeps the pages turning. Good stuff.
A book about Preacher and MacCallister, who are paid to take a group of Purssains and U.S Calvary into hostile territory to find out what happened to a party of Purssain Nobals from many years before. There has been a sitting of a blond woman in a Blackfoot camp which has led to this party. The author takes you back to the original time and what had happened, which leads you up to the present of course Preacher does not trust the Purssain officer in charge which also makes for a good story. This is a very good book with good characters. I received this book from Netgalley.com
Excellent story! Not only are there Blackfoot Indians involved, but the military as well as visitors from Prussia Germany. After a group of Prussians disappeared five years ago, a new Prussian military group appears out west and wants to know what ever happened to that previous group. Did they all die or were they captured? That is the question, and it was answered by Preacher and his best friend Jamie MacCallister. Always up for another adventure they join up with the military and head north to Blackfoot territory. It’s an exciting read and I loved every moment of it.
