Snarky Angels. Bad boy Omens. Dangerous Demons. And a deal with the Devil. The past twenty-four hours have been pretty weird for pre-law student Rachel Mortimer. She accidentally sold her soul to the Devil. An Angel showed up in her bedroom. And an irritatingly hot Bad Omen has been following her around campus. Now she has to intern at Devils Inc.—Lucifer’s LA based soul trading company. And demons are trying to kill her. The undead want her legal advice. And she’s starting to catch feelings for someone she shouldn’t.Oh, and someone has triggered the Apocalypse. So she should probably stop that. . .The start of a new Paranormal series full of Angels, Demons, Romance, and Humor from the author of Cupid's Match.
4☆ Flawed but fun satire in which Lucifer meets Good Omens meets Office Space meets Angels in America.
If you like any of the above, you’ll probably find this entertaining. I loved that the author made Hell’s “internship” one of literal soul-sucking corporate office drudgery, AfterLife as the Deceased and Deceased-adjacent Facebook App, and how failing to read the Terms & Conditions for free WiFi can mean pretty dire consequences. 😂 Oh and let’s not forget the Soul Marketplace version of the stock exchange and their special “legal” practices. 📈📊💰 I do feel a bit fuzzy on the dead/undead restrictions on Earth, but just decided to tuck all of that aside and enjoy myself. 😎
Rachel’s a cool heroine—strong, snarky, kick-ass but still likable and vulnerable. Gabriel was precious and I love him; he deserves better than Ewan anyway. I liked the H (Crow/Ewan) a lot in the beginning, with the whole hot-asshole-morally-gray-hiding-a-heart thing. But I was pretty disappointed in him later with the lying and how he handled things with Rachel. 😤 I guess it made him more complex but less of a swoony romantic character, which was maybe the intention. If you’re looking for spice, this ain’t really the place, it’s pretty much closed door. You get a sort of collective HFN that leaves many doors (and elevators) wide open, and this REALLY seems like it could be part of a series. NGL, I totally have the hots for the Fourth Horseman of the Apocalypse, so I really need Darius/Death and Josie’s story next, Ms. Palphreyman! 👉👈 And please let us see Gabriel get swept off his feet by a man/demon/angel/omen worthy of him! 😇🪽💕🙏
Multiple passages of Scripture featuring both Genesis and Revelations was intense as it was beautiful to read something unique and different.
While the book was heart stopping, hilarious, heartwarming and sinful...there was a reason it got 4 stars.
The reason being Rachel and Crow. They're relationship or whatever you may call it. While I secretly rooted for them, they gave into lust and desire straight away and it felt...rushed. Nothing like the other novels I've read over the years. No love blossoming. Just..."hey, I've got pent up emotions lets have sex!" Type of deal.
While it was different, I felt like it was sort of...just sour in my stomach because we don't really see them getting to know each other until after sex. And that didn't set well with me.
I'm still rooting for them in Halos Corps.
The other reason I gave it 4 stars was because of a couple other reasons. Gabriel as an Angel, shouldn't be in love with Crow or anyone for that matter if we are going off of biblical facts. However I can somewhat overlook that part since it's just fiction.
The last reason was the Serpent who we find out later on is Adalind. In Scripture, in Genesis, we are aware of a serpent telling Eve to take an apple and have a bite resulting in the Forbidden Knowledge and getting herself and Adam cast out of the Garden of Eden. In truth, Lucifer/Satan is the serpent. Just wanted to clarify that.
Anyways, still a good story. Even as a Christian, I found it to be an excellent take on the beginning and what the ending of the world could be like.

Call my main sin gluttony because I gobbled this book up; it tasted so good, I can't wait for the next. This is one book you can judge by its cover, as it's just as beautiful and intriguing inside as it is out. The characters have rich, captivating relationships, the plot is fast-paced without sacrificing quality, and there are twists, turns, jokes, and laughs aplenty. If you're a fan of angel, demon, and/or other biblical-based fiction content, give it a read- just don't forget to check the terms and conditions first.
4.75! No because I actually need there to be another book in this series.. I had a feeling this was going to be a good book, but I literally ate this up. The world building was great, all characters considering some of them being demons and omens were all so likeable. The main character Rachel was funny and honestly enjoyed reading from her pov. Crow.. my man. Listen I get weirded out when stories have characters with weird names like crow. But it works ok. He was my favourite in the book.
I would recommend this book to literally anyone who likes to read even if it’s not your vibe it will become your vibe, it sucks your soul in.
This is an absolutely adorable book! The FMC is just trying to figure out her life and the MMC is so charming and morally gray, just how I like my MMCs! It’s closed door spice, so if you want the explicit P in the V, you won’t find that in this book, BUT the sexual tension is great! There are tons of inside jokes related to religion & the Bible that I thought were super clever! It’s a quick, fun read!
I read this on wattpad - it's tough for me to find books on there where I can get immersed entirely - and this was perfect for me! I honestly rattled through Lauren's entire back catalogue starting with her Cupid Series and so if you like this, you'll like the others!
Our protagonist, Rachel, is likeable because she's not portrayed as being perfect! Sometimes you find yourself wanting to shout at her; but that's what makes me like her all the more.
This book takes what you thought you knew about angels and devil's and myths and legends.... and puts a refreshing and modern twist on them. I also like being challenged like that. You have to have a pretty good imagination to conjure up such things!
Throw in a potential apocalypse with some college romance and you've got yourself a real page turner...

I felt there was a lot of missed opportunities in this book to further explore character development. Unfortunately, the plot really didn’t get interesting until the end either, which made the pacing and tone feel a bit all over the place. Good parts, though, include some of the writing and the ending of the story: it felt fitting.
This book is perfect if you just want a quick little read where you don’t become too invested in the plot or the characters. The concept is interesting and entertaining, but nothing in the book is that compelling. It’s hard to believe it’s written by the same author as The Wolf King, and you should not read this expecting a similar experience.
I loved everything about this book, the story, the characters, how the writer wrote the book. it's very addictive, you start an chapter and you're always reading the next one. I finished the book in a few hours.
I absolutely loved this book it was fantastic. Sexy snarky bad boy omens, stiff awkward angels, dangerous demons, the four horsemen . And a human woman caught up in the middle. This was a highly entertaining and enjoyable book to read. I loved the characters Rachel, Josie, Crow, Gabriel, Darius aka death, Felix aka famine,William aka wrath, Chris aka Conquest. I absolutely cannot wait for book two Halo’s corp to find out what happens next.
Rachel is a pre law student trying to make her parents proud especially because her old brother passed away seven years prior and she wants to get out from his shadow. When meeting up with her friends Lucas and Josie at Evie’s garden club famous for their appletinies. She unwittingly and unknowingly signs her soul to the devil for free wifi. Crow is a omen who was in the mirror he’s tasked with protecting her and delivering her to devils inc. he’s flirty, sarcastic and annoys her immensely and nicknames her Little Demon. Rachel heads home from the club only to discover a stranger in her room an angel named Gabriel who wants her to spy on the devils inc to see if they’re plotting anything bad to help Lucifer win the final war in the future in exchange he will help her get out of her contract. But things get crazier, someone has started the apocalypse, demons are trying to kill her and her dead brother Jonathan needs her help, she gets betrayed by Crow who’s married and whose do desperate to get a hold of a miracle to heal his wife so he can apologise to her, but he’s hurt both Gabriel and Rachel with his actions. Gabriel is the son of the archangel Michael he was demoted because of Crows actions, Rachel connected with Crow on a deeper level than anyone else and is hurt by the fact that he wanted to use her to help his wife that he kept secret despite Cher feeling sympathy and understanding his situation he was murdered to join hell and his wife was collateral damage she sustained brain damage in the same car accident. Jonathan is in hiding because he created the afterlife app that tracks all ethereal creatures and someone wants to find Adam, the revelation scrolls are stolen and gradually given to the four horsemen which Rachel’s friend Josie started working at their club Apocalypse as a bartender. They soon discover the devils inc bitter receptionist Adeline is the one responsible she’s the serpent from Adam and Eve’s garden who got punished the most she lost her greater demon title and seeks to get it back but if she gets her powers back she will kill Adam and Eve killing all humanity. Adeline doesn’t really intend to start the apocalypse because she doesn’t want Lucifer to find out that she’s done all this behind his back. Rachel and her friends come up with a daring plan to deliver Darius his scroll to release Lucifer from hell to get control over a fully powered Adeline. It works he kills her, threatens her friends and before returning to hell warns Rachel that she owes him and he always collects his debts. Gabriel offers Rachel a small miracle that she uses on Maddie Crow aka Ewan’s wife so he can say his goodbyes and apologises to her giving him peace. Due to her selflessness she’s granted the redemption clause from her devils inc contract however she still is in debt with the devil. I can’t wait to read more from this series.
There’s an Apocalypse Coming. Can Hopeless, ‘Devil Inc’ Intern Rachael Mortimer Save The Day?
I started reading this book based on the cover. Yes! I DID judge by it cover. AND! I wasn’t disappointed. What a trip it was.. This book is crazy good. It’s has humour, romance, heartbreak, soul bargaining...Oh and an Apocalypse.
Rachael Mortimer just wanted to use the free WiFi at Evie’s bar (Where they were serving half price Appletini’s *wink*) to email her job application interning at a prestigious law firm.
Little does she know, she should have read the fine print because, she ends up signing away her soul to ‘Devils Inc’ for eternity (Well, unless she can get herself a miracle from Halo, which conveniently sits right across the street.) Of course no book is complete without a little romance, and that comes in the form of Crow, the dark haired Scotsman with a wicked sense of humour, and a secret past. He’s a bad omen’, an immortal, who was hired to deliver her to her new employer.
THEN, throw in a nerdy, up tight angel, Gabriel who works for Halo (who may, or may not have had a close relationship with Crow at some point, because There’s a little somethin, somethin between them) and discovers that someone has taken the scrolls from the purgatory vaults that could trigger the Apocalypse.
He suspects someone at ‘Devils Inc’ is responsible, and wants Rach, to be his eyes and ears while learning her new job. In return, he might be able to get her that miracle she so desperately needs.
Then we have Jonathon, Rachael’s brother who was tragically killed in a car accident ten years previous, but who had developed an app. An app called ‘Afterlife’ that allows the recently deceased to bargain for their souls. Allowing them to contact legal teams from ‘Devils Inc’ or Halo.
However, everything may not be as it seems in regards to Jonathan’s demise.
Then we have Josie Rachel’s Wicca bestie who gets a job at club Apocalypse, and Luca their gay theatre loving friend.
The other secondary characters include- Apocalypse-bar owners the four horsemen brothers Darius Chris William Felix And one bitchy sneaky Devils Inc receptionist Adalind. With her snake tattoo, and inhuman looking eyes. Put them all together and you get a no-holds-barred, clash of epic proportions as an end. I loved this book. Okay, Okay, I’m not big on religion and all the stories that, that entails, but this book made it very readable and easy to follow. Looking forward to the next one. ****
It was a nice book overall, a fast-paced book, and I'd say an action-packed one. The characters were also very likeable, each one with their own personality and secrets. There were also some quite funny moments. I mean Rachel signs away her soul for some free Wi-Fi, that should tell you about the mood of the book! However, even though there were some urgent matters to attend to, like saving everyone from the Apocalypse (sounds serious enough), it still left like it wasn't really taken too seriously (not sure if it's a good or bad thing, maybe Lauren did that on purpose to lighten the mood).
SPOILER: I'm telling that because Rachel and Crow were bickering over their relationship in Adalind's apartment instead of delivering the last Revelation scroll to the four Horsemen. This moment nearly gave me a heart attack, I was too anxious.
OTHER SPOILER: Rachel and Crow's relationship feels rushed. They don't really get to know each other. They're more like fuck (not)buddies. I didn't feel the connection, their attraction kind of came from nowhere.
Rachel Mortimer just wants to feel special and live up to the high expectations that her parents has for her. Ever since her smart over achieving older brother died she has been living in a shadow and is always being compared to him. So she chooses to go to college for law to impress her parents. She just has to land an internship. Easy enough right? She needs to send out her resume and the bar she’s at just happens to have free Wi-Fi. PERFECT! She scrolls down without reading the terms and conditions (she’s gonna make an amazing lawyer right?) and accepts! She soon finds out that she sold her soul to the devil for free Wi-Fi and now has to work for the one and only Devils Inc! Terrified, she goes along with it trying to find a way out of this crazy contract. When an Angel strikes a deal with her she embarks on a wild and terrifying biblical journey dealing with omens, the undead and Lucifer himself. Was the free Wi-Fi worth it, Rachel?

This was such a nostalgic read for me. I remember reading this on wattpad before it was published. Now that I look back at it i really think Crow is a d*ck. Like yes he was hot and annoying, I liked their diynamic at first; boxing scene, their interactions and bickerings. But when it was revealed he was married and also what he did to my poor baby Gabriel... I kinda got the ick reading about him. Rachel and Gabriel trauvma bonding was cute tho, i liked their bestie dynamic. As for other characters i really have nothing much to say, they delivered their purpose for the plot as they were supposed to. Writing coulve been better tho it was soo vanilla. Some characters just said the same things all the time, like i get it it shows their personality or whatkind of a chatactwrisric they have but you could use some more creative words to describe them isntead of giving them the same line in every two chapters. Like Josie always saying babe, Crow repeating Mate, Aye, and Little devil like a parrot. Even Adelien reprated "lets get this done with" a couple of times.

It has been a read that I didn't expect to grab me so much. I loved it.
The plots, the characters, both main and secondary, are so well threaded that no detail is left out, and you immerse yourself in the struggle between good and evil where souls are mere pawns in their game. Exciting.
Rachel is a strong, sarcastic and determined protagonist. Crow is the bad boy with a torturous past whom you forgive everything and Gabriel, Gabriel, the shy boy who infuriates you and at the same time touches you, but when he lets his wild side out, you admire his strength and kindness.
I just hope the author brings us the sequel soon, I'm dying to know the answers to the questions that were left open.
I have read this book a few times now. I still think about it and have told lots of people about it. The premise is just so good. The characters are interesting and well rounded. I couldn’t put it down. I laughed a lot. It was so original but also drew on lots of familiar tropes.
Spoilers- this book or sequel may be responsible for driving me to the Why Choose genre because OMG it makes me crazy when they could all just share and be happy together but instead there’s all this drama forcing a 1:1 dynamic. It’s fantasy- why can’t we imagine that people can be happy all together and not leaving anyone out? This one hurt. I don’t remember details because it’s been a long time since I read these. But it was painful and felt really forced to me at the time.

think demons and angels but law firms for the dead, OH and the four horsemen of the apocalypse own a bar.
i feel like this author sets up these books to write sequels but they haven't published in a while?? cause there is definitely a story between a horseman and the FC's bestie.
the writing style isn't my favourite BUT super accessible, super easy reading. i also think this author has a thing for Scottish people. because the last book i read and this one, love interests were scottish AF.
I love Lauren's writing style. It's funny yet touching. I also love the twist on history with the four horsemen, Adam and Eve, and Hell and Haven. My knowledge in that domain is very limited, so I don't know if the whole thing makes sense for people who have actual biblical knowledge. It did make sense for me in that story, tho. I hope the sequel will be published one day! My twisted thirsty self does wish for spicier scenes and not some allusion to spice, but that is my only complaint, really.
Brilliant book I loved the twists and turns. The characters are amazing and I liked everyone of them as sometimes you get an annoying character you want to slap. I also liked the part where Rachel gives her miracle to Crow. I am trying to now find the second book Halo Corp as it would be nice to follow up on the main characters. Not found it in paperback version so far. I prefer reading a book than having to use screens as i have contrast sensitivity.
