A devastating earthquake. A biohazard breach. A race to survive the worst of nature and humankind. This is the Alt Apocalypse.
The mind-bending conclusion to the groundbreaking, genre-splitting series connects the previous four installments through an incredibly woven story which moves through space and time.
All of your questions are answered in the epic sci-fi adventure: Pox.
Wow, where do I start with this one. First off, I’ve loved the Alt Apocalypse series. I thought Abrahams did something extremely ambitious but also interesting by taking the same characters and same sort of over-arching storyline to different apocalypse situations. Each situation was different and therefore different people died in different books.
Pox is the last book in the Alt Apocalypse series, which, if you didn’t know or realize, the books spell out Alt Apox:
Ash Lit Torrent
Affliction POX
So, when I realized this was going to be it, I went in a bit worried that it was going to let me down. Not because Abrahams has let me down before (he hasn’t), but because it was such a unique series – how the heck was he going to tie up all the loose ends and maybe even tie the worlds together. You could have given me one hundred guesses and I wouldn’t have come up with a more clever way to tie the worlds together. Proving that Abrahams is a true master author.
I really want to write how he tied it all together, but just know that you’re in for a ride. I’m so happy that it ended the way that it did and honestly each character got what I thought they deserved. I honestly couldn’t ask for more and that’s rare with apocalypse books.
I think I need to end my review here because I want to spoil this book SO bad, but everything else I want to talk about revolves around the choices that Abrahams made and the different things that he put into this specific book that tied everything up in a nice bow. If you’ve read and enjoyed any of the other books in this series – you should sprint to pick this one up. If you haven’t, I highly recommend the whole series (I think that Torrent was my personal favorite).
The Alt Apocalypse series has been a fun read for me. While I'd never call the books amazing, they were unique, had some pretty enjoyable characters, and were interesting to read. Pox brings us to the conclusion of the series, but I felt that the landing was a bit mixed.
Pox really brings a lot of the meta-story to the forefront, but don't worry there are still disasters to have to deal with in this book. In this book we get a two for one, we have earthquakes and some almost zombies to deal with. This keeps the threat level high for our characters throughout.
While I did enjoy seeing some of my favorite characters again, this one also had some things I didn't like as well. The motivation behind the multiverse traveling wasn't the greatest in my opinion. The series hinted at there being a bigger reason, but that never manifested. I also thought the ending didn't really make sense in a number of ways. It was a better ending than I thought we would get, but it also felt a bit too neat.
While I was maybe hoping for a bit more from the final book in the series, it was still entertaining and was a fitting conclusion to the series. The series maybe never quite wound up in my favorite books, but they were a fun read and I enjoyed the story.
I have been a fan of this series and learning that there was a metanarrative within the scope of the books was the icing on the cake. Here, in the conclusion of the series, Abrahams ends the series with the classic zombie apocalypse (faux-zombie) but concludes the story and answers the questions set up throughout the series.
While the series could have probably included several other scenarios, the metastory does well with the series being the length it was. The characters continue to be just as interesting although the bad-guy thief and reporter tend to be ancillary characters (especially the bad guy) and have been in most stories. The ending is also satisfying and I feel like Abrahams could have ended the story in such a way as to tease that the story hasn't quite ended but he chose not to take that route. The zombie part of the story does tend to take a bit more of a backseat in this to bring forward the metastory and the progression of it is pretty quick. Some more discussion could have been taken with the zombies but that is clearly a focus decision the author took.
If you enjoyed the series so far, the ending won't disappoint. I really enjoyed the concept of this series and would check out other books by Abrahams as a result.
Alternating apocalypses . Time travel, another dimension. Call it what you want, but every time this group steps through the portal, they enter the unknown. Possibly a disaster of mega proportions awaits them. The end of the world. When they emerge through the portal they could be one an alternate version of themselves. The primary characters are all connected with their past. All have an inkling but do not understand. It's on the top of their tongue, their memories. In their last journey they all return to a dimension they originally started from. Some remember their past connections. They now have normality a connection. A truly amazing series and ending!! My highest recommendation!!
Wow what a brilliant and to the series. Can’t say enough good things about this one. Just when you think you’re going to guess what is going on there’s another curveball. I love this entire series and this is just the icing on the cake. By now, you know all of the characters but they’re just a little bit different in each book which is awesome. And there’s just little bits and pieces from the other books implanted in this one to give it that extra kick. Just such a cool ride. Start off with the series and you’ll fall in love with it. The narration is great and very consistent across the entire series. There could not of been a more perfect voice for this entire series. If you have followed this series entire way you will be very happy with the conclusion of it!
Now we find out the truth about why the same people are in different apocalyptic disasters. I found the alternate reality/jumping quite interesting, though the zombie/mutants Z-29ers seemed a little over the top after a massive earthquake had already occurred. There was an apparent error in the very beginning of the book, where Danny is talking to Arthur, his friend and coworker in the cafe. After the earthquake, Arthur cries out that his hand is injured and Danny starts calling out for Albert. He find's wreckage as he searches for Albert and then find's Arthur's face. Very confusing. The end wraps up neatly, quickly and nicely. I must say that I enjoyed this entire series.
In the final installment of Tom Abrahams Alt Apocalypse Series, Pox, it’s a virus that was manufactured by the military and of course it causes a zombie type outbreak. Spoiler alert, none of our favorite characters became zombies, but all of them are affected by the resulting chaos and everything that has happened in the previous 4 books is explained and resolved.

This was a wonderful tie in to the previous books. The whole series flowed well and I was easily able to suspend my belief at what happened and enjoy the story for what it was. A great example of fiction. Kudos to the author!
Great ending to a very unique plot in an APOC , SiFi, fantastic story. I should throw in romantic also. Although a little confusing at times, the conclusion clears up the confusion. Ah, so that's why that was happening moments. Very unusual plot device but it worked.
Wow! What a series! You need to read this entire series, will keep in your mind all day & nite. It will boggle your beliefs & turn you around, then do it all over again x 5! Liz f/South Jersey
Ash, Lit, Torrent, and Affliction take the reader through alternate apocalyptic universes. Oddly the same cast of characters pop up in varying situations: some live, some die. The final book in the series whips all of them into a chaotic finale.

This was an exciting and crazy roller coaster ride of a book! As with the other books in the series. It keeps you not wanting to stop reading and takes twists and turns that are totally unexpected.
I wished it would have ended differently but I understand why it ended the way it did. Good book to finish off a good series! And all for the love of a woman!
