Death Gets Cozy

Rate this book
Anthony Mulish believes he’s the world’s greatest author. Unfortunately, the world and his long-suffering agent disagree. Out of frustration, he’s written a cozy mystery novel under a pen name. To everyone’s surprise (especially his agent's) and his chagrin, it’s a bestseller.

Now Anthony is being toasted as the special guest of honor at a mystery conference. Anthony being Anthony, he rubs everyone the wrong way, especially the other authors - anyone of whom would probably love to see him dead. Then one of the attendees is brutally murdered. Anthony vows to find the killer. He's already successfully solved a murder mystery in a bestselling novel so how hard can it be?

Hands down fabulous!

That JR Ripley knows how to tell a yarn! Ripley created a cast of characters and situations that were laugh out loud crazy. Almost unbelievable, but so fresh from the typical drivel of the cozy genre. Thanks big bunches for such an enjoyable read.

Do you need a laugh and enjoy light cozy mysteries? The nicely written “Death Gets Cozy” might fulfill your reading needs. In the book, Anthony Mulish has written a cozy mystery as a joke. Much to his shock, it was published and people are really buying it! Now, a small college in Virginia is hosting their first mystery conference and Anthony is their Guest of Honor for the event. His agent, Ameena, gets roped into driving her most self centered writer to the college. Most of the long trip, Ameena wants to tip him out of the car in the middle of nowhere as he endlessly complains about her driving. What could posssibly go wrong putting Anthony, who hates fans, at a conference full of readers who like a book he wrote as a joke! You won’t believe how he responds to autograph seekers! Other writers are just an opportunity to sling more barbs. I laughed out loud at the outlandish thoughts Anthony had about his fellow attendees and local security forces. Oh, and there’s a mystery too - with an entire conference full of suspects. I hope you are successful picking out the main culprit. I was hopeless at it!

Mr. Ripley's books run hot and cold for me. At times I only get through a quarter or third of one of his books and call it quits. Others I enjoy immensely. This one is on the tepid side. In spite of its abject silliness, I struggled through it although in the end the premise of the whole book was ludicrous. If all it takes for someone to commit murder is because they want to stop the publication of a book, look out world.
I really can't say that I particularly recommend this book, but with the isolation that we are all suffering through, (this Covid pandemic) there could be worse things to read.
