Sneaking into a warm nursing home will take a few Christmas miracles.
How can a down-on-his-luck 30-year-old possibly assist this old WW2 combat veteran who briefly needs shelter and food? On this cold Christmas weekend, Matt Clarke has his own worries—he’s a stranger passing through this small Tennessee town when his truck is stolen. There has to be an empty bed in this four-story nursing home because grizzled John Lester just saw the funeral home staff drive away with a body. If they do manage to get inside, perhaps they can fool the skeptical, lovely, young nurse, Lucia Alvarez. But what about the brusque aide who’s a stickler for rules and challenges the absence of a doctor’s referral and other vital paperwork? Is there any possibility of a future… for Matt and Lucia? Where’s a Christmas Miracle when you need one? Or two?

Maybe not as exciting as his last nursing home adventure, but a sweet Christmas story of a wily WW II vet who convinces a young man down on his luck to help him sneak into a nursing home in order to get a warm room and food for the holidays. Their attempt succeeds, but some of the staff is not without suspicions including an attractive Hispanic nurse that the young guy is attracted to and another, Margaret, who wants them thrown out but can't get the authority to do so. The denizens of the nursing home help them out, especially a young man named Luke confined to a motorized wheelchair but still sharp of mind. Luke's plots help the culprits hide out and facilitates the romance with Nurse Alvarez. Nice to see such characters in this book. Expect a happy ending with Salter's fictional town of Verdeville, Kentucky taking them in permanently.
A Christmas tale to warm the heart and also kep you guessing. Were these two conspirators going to get away with it after all? Or would they both be thrown out on their kiesters? Also, there's a little romance as well.
