Three years ago, Daniel Scratch ascended to become Adherent of the Sixth Axis, the primary, magical forces of Endings in the world. Since then, he’s tried to use that power for the betterment of all witchkind—despite the “don’t bother” attitude of the senior adherents of the other four Axes. The other junior adherents, on the other hand, are much more willing to help the rest of witchkind—especially when it comes to curtailing the humans’ use of magic-draining iron. But a critical misstep tears the Veil, the subtle, delicate magic that conceals witchkind’s true nature from the humans. Human priests begin calling for a resumption of the Hunts, and the death of all witchkind. To heal the Veil, Daniel must confront his own vulnerabilities, the millennia-old history of his predecessors, and the very nature and reason for his own birth.Praise for Daniel Scratch, the first story of "The gothic setting is rich in magical bureaucracy and legality, Lithuanian spell words, peculiar artifacts, taciturn ghosts... this work is generally best suited to readers who enjoy slow immersion in rich prose. Adult and teenage fans of thoughtful fantasy will love exploring this beautifully described world of arcane powers." – BookLife"Author Don Jones has crafted a wonderfully compelling tale of magic, witches, and learning your own identity, and one which will be sure to capture the hearts and minds of fantasy readers everywhere... More than this, though, there’s a deep emotional quality to the character which is a rare find in the genre, and one which makes the reader really feel for Daniel throughout." – Readers' Favorite
Don Jones has written dozens and dozens of books and ebooks on information technology topics, and is perhaps most well-known in that space for his "Month of Lunches" series, published by Manning. Don's recently branched out into topics like business management, instructional design, and self-improvement/motivational, along with launching books in science fiction and fantasy. Don lives in Downtown Las Vegas, Nevada, is a huge fan of Disney Parks, and loves Figment best of all.
In Master of the Tower (a story of witchkind), by Don Jones (author of "The Never"), is a masterful place to reside. The Tower contained little shadow-lizard servants, driezai. With their hard work, they could prepare any dish. Also, the Tower has extensive libraries, a magically sustained garden, many basements of fresh produce, and chambers with meats and other foodstuffs. The Tower is alive with life and magic.
As a matter of fact, witchkind's contributions to humans were subtle because humans hated magic. One of the previous adherents, Plaktukas, produced a complex bit of magic that ended the relationship between humans and witchkind, we call it the veil. The veil hides the magic that witchkind performs.
Moreover, the Earth adherents created an orange-yellow dragon whose movements were lifelike. Later, the Earth adherents launched the fireball from the dragon's head. It shattered on a pile of iron rails. The humans were running and scared. This was a scare tactic for the humans.
Consequently, the veil was thinning. People reported others vanishing into thin air, and fire coming from a boy's fingertips. With the veil thinning, the humans have been revealed a lot more than they could ever imagine in their dreams. They can see what was previously hidden. How amazing.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I think YA, fantasy, and sci-fi readers will thoroughly enjoy this as a great read.
Master of the Tower: A Story of Witchkind (Witchkind, #2), my first read from author Don Jones. I was gifted a copy of this book and discovered it was book 2, I went out & got Daniel Scratch: A Story of Witchkind (Witchkind, #1) from Amazon and read it first. 236-pages, but reads longer due to the intricate detail and development written in it. I'm voluntarily reviewing it because every good book needs reviews. I look forward to more from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Loved it! It's an extremely interesting concept to have powers harnessed. This is not the first story I've read that has magical and non-magical folk living on top of each other so to speak but I truly enjoy reading about them. This book is a cliffhanger unfortunately so unless I can catch the next installment when it comes out, I'll be out of luck. So sad. Highly recommended!
I received a free copy of this book via StoryOrigin and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the second book in the original series, and I have learned that the third book is not available from this original series. But no worries fans, the author has revised this series improving upon an already interesting and unique world, having published the first book, Daniel Scratch, and with promises of the next two to be done and published, hopefully, this summer 2023. Looking forward to reading them!
