A highly advanced alien race discovers that Earth is the perfect greenhouse for their plants. The only problem is, they need to change our climate and get rid of the pesky humans.
Vivian has no idea that her world is about to change forever when she and her friends enjoy a trip to an amusement park in California.
Unbeknownst to her, a strange rain the night before has changed regular people into raging maniacs.
Stranded in an unfamiliar city and state, Vivian and her friends try to stay alive and fight their way home against maniacs and gangs.
But reaching home might not offer the salvation Vivian was looking for as she realizes her escape was only The Beginning of a long, drawn-out fight against ruthless foes.
NOTE: THIS SERIES WAS PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED AS THE RAIN SERIES AND HAS UNDERGONE SIGNIFICANT EDITORIAL CHANGES.
My goal is to write books that will keep you up at night reading. I love many different genres, and I believe so do my readers, which is why I offer a variety of books. Each is unique in its own way and designed for you to turn page after page. I'd love to hear from you if I'm succeeding in this endeavor. You can always reach me at: MariettaStandlee@gmail.com
I read almost the entire book before dropping it. On the good side the characters try to organize and train themselves to survive the apocalypse.
On the bad side it is utterly ridiculous that there is still a government, kids going to school (with related drama!) when several major cities have been wiped out and there are constant attacks with fatalities. At the very least I would have expected the characters with military experience to immediately relocate the group to a defensible location and hunker down.
But what finally made me drop the book is that the protagonist spends way too much time trying to figure out which boy she wants to sleep with.
Ok writing and editing but the author might need to a little research first. She describes one of the football players early on as a big guy ,over200 lbs, as a wide receiver who are generally lighter and faster guys. Scuba divers never refer to their air as oxygen and why did they put on leggings under their wetsuit? Doesn't work that way. Also, diving down while swimming on the surface takes some practice as people are naturally buoyant. And no bcd? Smh
I absolutely loved reading "The Rain: The Beginning". Marietta Standlee's ability to spin an intriguing and spellbinding story had me from the first page and her heroine, Vivian Allister's story of survival and perseverance was awe inspiring. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the sci-fi genre, apocalyptic stories and smart, sassy and kick-ass heroines.
This book is so good. I’m taking a minute before I dive into the second book to write this review. I almost stopped reading when some got out of LA. I thought there is no way it can be more exciting. Wrong! The rest of the book is as good if not better than the beginning. Gotta go, ready to read the second book.
An apocalypse with a difference begins with the rain. Viv relates the story in the first person. Very easy to follow, full of the mayhem you’d expect. Watch out for the flowers!
