C is for Coven is a reinterpretation of a classic alphabet book, matching each letter of the ABCs with a rhyming phrase that teaches kids about witchcraft.
Instead of A is for Apple and D is for Dog, A is for Altar and D is for Drawing Down the Moon. From the author of A Pagan Picture Book, this bewitching and adorable board book will make learning the ABCs fun, magical, and memorable for the whole family.
A is for Altar, set up in my room, Stones, figurines, and a small bundled broom.
B is for Besom, that broom’s magic name, For clearing a space with intention and aim.
C is for Coven, a circle of trust, Conjuring energy, potent and just.
D is for Drawing Down the Moon, Invoking the Goddess in ritual tune.
C is for Coven is a great addition to baby, toddler, and pre-school libraries in homes embracing Paganism, new age spirituality, Earth based religion, witchcraft, Wicca, and other more. Whether you already embrace these practices at home or want to expose your child to something unfamiliar, C is for Coven is an easy to follow introduction that will keep both kids and parents entertained.
Very cute and trendy graphics, these rhymes are perfect for our little fledgling witches! Great gift for any new mummy or grandparent, or budding new Pagan kiddo. ❤️
I was so excited for this book specially to give it to my daughter. It’s beautifully illustrated with cute little rhymes. I would give this 10 stars if I could.
For those who are into teaching their children different religions or even the Wiccan religion they will find this as a nice little informative introductory book. It explores the various components of the religion, its equipment and even some of its beliefs.
Each page has two entries for the reader with each entry being started with a capital letter. This is followed by a sentence or two that provides the reader with just a bit more information on the theme word, which is presented in bold. These theme words mostly start with the focal although there is an exception when it comes to X.
The illustrations are small while keeping to the same neutral color palette throughout. Even for the size the illustrations are quite detailed while perfect capturing the details used in this New Age religion.
For those again in interested in Wicca or practicing with children this will definitely be a good book to get started in learning more.
This book is wonderful. The easy rhyming and education is so much fun. I wish these books had been around when my older 2 were younger. The author is incredible and doing so much for the pagan community. The author not only gives us beautifully illustrated, brilliantly worded children’s books - we also get the inclusivity and diversity we all need to see.
This is such a fun book to read. Its poetry is singsongy and informative. Wonderful for exploring the craft with little. This is one of our regular reads.
Want to introduce your children to the basic concepts of witchcraft and magic? C Is For Coven is a sweet primer for little pagans and witchlings. The perfect way to start ’em young, it introduces key magical concepts in a way that is accessible, positive, and altogether enchanting. An excellent conversation starter for magically curious kiddos, it introduces practices like “Drawing Down The Moon” and lesser-known words like “besom” in short, approachable sentences, making this an ideal entry point into the world of paganism. What elevates this book beyond a typical alphabet board book is the quality of the writing, which is poetic and luminous. This is a book that begs to be read aloud, re-read, and savored at bedtime.
The art is just as enchanting as the writing. The pastel illustrations convey the proper amount of wonder for the luminous world of magic that exists at our fingertips, for all of us to tap into. The illustrations depict a diversity of witches, a reflection of the broader witchcraft community. Witches of all stripes will see themselves in Stein’s empowered, strong witches. The book practically radiates with loving intention and light magic. Each page is a mini love spell of sorts: for kids and the magic they hold. This book is much a gift for children as it is for the adults who will share it with them. A wonderful gift for a witch of any age, C Is For Coven is a must-read for pagan parents and kids, or anyone who wants to tap into the wonder and magic of witchcraft.
What a unique children's book for all the magickal babes! I have bought this book several times and have given them away as baby shower presents, even for those who do not follow this path. It has always been very well received. How can you not like this beautifully illustrated book? I still have the first one I purchased directly from the author and it is beautifully gift wrapped in tissue paper, and I plan keeping it wrapped in its inviting package until I have a grandchild one day. Why weren't there any amazing authors creating these books when I was a little witchling? If you don't have children or grandchildren, buy this book anyway and have it ready for your next baby shower!
This book was everything I'd hoped it would be: Not cliché or dramatic. There was no romanticizing or vilifying involved. Witches and witchcraft have so much more to do with acknowledging humankind's place in nature than movies and myths convey.
The text rhymed and flowed, the images were perfectly chosen, and the message was clear: Each person is their own brand of magic.
A great little introduction the the ABC's with a pagan/witchy twist. My daughter loves it, especially E is for Elements (that's her favourite page) and the simply illustrations let her imagination run wild. Great book for younger kids, aged 1-4
This is one of my favorite ABC books to read to my daughter. The drawing were simple (but very beautiful) and keep her attention beginning at six months old. We still keep it on rotation with her other books, and she likes to “read” it to me, as it’s become one of her favorites over time.
A nice picture book introducing kids to the ideas of witchcraft. The illustrations are simple and lovely. I clocked one possible typo, but it didnt' take away from the experience in the least. I really liked that it was gender-inclusive: witches as mentioned as being able to be "he, she, or they."
This is a great book for witchy families. Read it with my toddler today, and he seemed to like it, although ultimately he struggles to sit through a whole alphabet book. However I think this would be a huge hit with my older two boys!
This book is everything I wanted when my kids were little. They might be a bit old (4 and 6) for their ABCs, but honestly, this book is still wonderful for introducing them to witchy things!
Very cute little alphabet book for little ones. My 6 year old was even tickled by it. We got the free kindle edition, it’s now in my cart for a physical copy.
