Love isn’t blind; it’s devastating. June had her future all planned out, and it never involved hiding in a bunker with her long-term boyfriend during what felt like the end of the world. In fact, surviving the zombie apocalypse never even entered the picture. Yet, that’s exactly what fate gave her.
A game of survival. One horror after another. But, at least, she’s not alone. At least she has Adam…until she doesn’t. Heartbroken, June wishes she could face the apocalypse on her own, but she’s seen what’s out there. Infected that are smart enough to fake what they are and the hellhounds determined to kill every last human. If she wants to survive, she’ll need help from the dark creatures who rescued her from the bunker.
She’ll need a fey, and Tor is just the man for the job. (All the couples you've come to love will again be mentioned in this book. Official description coming soon!)
MJ Haag is the bestselling author of the Beastly Tales and the Resurrection Chronicles. Writing as both MJ Haag and Melissa Haag, she has sold more than three hundred thousand copies worldwide and authored several other series, including the Judgement of the Six and Of Fates and Furies.
She thinks bios written in third person are hilariously pretentious and doesn't take much in life seriously, including her author photo.
She lives in Wisconsin with her three children and husband.
I love this series, the writing, the world, the human interactions, the way the zombies are becoming so very... other.
This series is basically an automatic four to five stars for me. But there were things about this book I really didn't like.
I'm gonna put my thoughts down here for myself, because I reread this series all the time and I like to know which books made me feel which ways. That means spoilers, so if you haven't read this one. Stop here knowing it's worth it, just like every other book in the series was! 😍🤩🥰
The spoilers ahead are for me.
You have been warned.

June was awesome. And so was Adam. In fact, he was too awesome, the worst thing about him was his altruistic plan to write himself out of June's life to make sure she was taken care of.
His means of doing so pissed me off. I've been treated that (sort of) way, so it was triggering for me, and it made me feel both hurt and furious for June.
Adam's singular action (lying to Tor, making him think he had consent to be intimate with June when she was asleep and unaware) was enough reason for her to break up with him. In fact, if he had continued to justify his actions and felt what he'd done was right, I probably would have been cool with their breakup and his eventual death. But the fact was, you could infer through the pages that he hated what he did. He hated leaving June, he hated that he didn't feel he was enough for her anymore.
He wanted her to be safe, happy, and have everything he felt he deserved. And he did take the choice away from June. But the fact of the matter was, she had already drawn close to Tor. She spent every second with the man when her boyfriend was alone, unentertained and hurting in the NEXT ROOM. When Adam pushed her away, she didn't have far to fall into Tor's arms and she WAS happier there.
Before Tor, June followed Adam around like a puppy. She adored him, he was her world, and she was fine with being a back seat person. Then he couldn't be the driver anymore and she spent every moment she could have used strengthening the emotional bond that was lacking with Adam - with another man. Of course he pushed her away, of course he told the man June REALLY wanted, everything he would need to know to make her happy.
It was awful to see a good person make a mistake and pay with his life.
I loved the rest of the book, the plot, the new love. All of it was on par with the rest of the series (nothing can top Maya and Drav though) I just hated the dynamic between June and Adam. I felt they were both responsible for being either happy, or broken and June walked away too easily. (For me.) I understood why she did. But it wasn't enjoyable to read.
I'm sad to see this series drawing closer to its end. I understand the author's fears of losing readers to a neverending world, but I don't think it's run its course yet. Every time I go back to Maya and Drav I hope the next book in the series will hold the same kind of magic, and each book I pick up, opens the opportunity for more.
I keep hoping to read about the fae who were made to hunt the Hell Hounds, I want to see them find their own happily ever afters. I have so many questions, there is so much more I want to see! Maybe if we all feel that way, Haag will change her mind and keep writing. 🥺
4.5 stars — I was just telling my hubby that this book fucking delighted me, and the series does in general, and it’s just so hard to convey why. I think the dark fey are just over the top and ridiculous and yet endearing and adorable. They say some of the most outrageous things, and Tor was the epitome of what I love about them. He made me laugh so many times, I can’t even…
But there’s a lot else to these stories, and this story in particular. I was really conflicted about the whole June and Adam thing. It’s funny, b/c there’s a few author’s notes at the end of the book, and it’s not as though I don’t understand what precipitated Adam’s behavior, but I’m still mad at him. *snort* Others must have been too I guess.
It was weird to fall in love with a relationship, and then somehow have to move on and fall in love with another relationship. It really shouldn’t have worked for me, and yet it did. I think part of that is that June has a genuinely good heart. She’s not soft and sweet per se, she’s actually pretty strong and motivated. But her eyes are very open, and she sees to the heart of things — including to the heart of the grey guys. I *really* appreciated that, right from the start. And I totally got where her anxieties came from with everything that was going on, and yet she still tried SO HARD not to lead anyone on or take advantage.
Am I the only one who’s kind of sad the next book might be the last? Like, I get the point of going out on a high, but at the same time I genuinely think I could read stories in this world for at least 10 more books. Or at least novellas. What about Angel’s baby?? Will we finally get to see that conclusion???
On a related note, I fucking love quite a few of the girls in this series…some more than others, which makes sense since there’s a lot of different personalities. But it’s so awesome to see their friendships with one another — it’s not just couple everything, you know? It’s definitely one of the strengths.
I might need to go back and reread from the beginning. I kind of forget a lot of the things we’ve learned along the way about the dark fey, and so a recap might be good. Especially if the next book really does turn out to be the last one.
Oh, and wtf with the zombies??? OMG, that was intense and crazy. I really hope that wraps up satisfyingly.
I love June just about as much as Mya. This book was completely different but still had plenty of surprises and tear-inducing moments. June and Adam are rescued from their bunker, the same place Demon Disgrace found its final climax, out at the farm when the infected swarmed Hannah. Despite a tense introduction to a world with fey these humans were the first truly good, honest, and accepting people and that's where the heart-tugging begins and I won't say more. June is going to be such a strong and important character to the development of the next book and the Rez world. You're going to love her.
This series just keeps getting better and better! I mean I already love the whole end of the world theme of the book, but this author takes it up a notch. This isn't your everyday zombie story. No, this book has only developed more and more over time to the point that it is at a boiling point.
Each of these books is about a different couple and can be read as a stand alone. The author does include a brief explanation of "What has happened" in the beginning of the book. With that being said, it would be a disservice to yourself if you do not read this series from the beginning. The entire series is truly a work of art as the world is slowly built and rearranged as the days and months go by.
Back to Demon Fall, I won't lie. My feelings were all over the place. At first, I wanted to smack a certain character. Then I loved him again wondering what the author was doing. Then I wanted to smack him yet again. It was written in such a way that my heart was both hurting and growing warmer as the story progressed. There were some tears, a lot of gasps, and plenty of fanning during this story. Let me tell you. June is a trooper. She is a survivalist, but she is also a bad chick who is not afraid to take risks to better both her life and the life of others. A true gem in this new world.
Overall, I stayed up way too late reading this book as usual. All it did was make me want to turn around to read the entire series from the beginning for the millionth time. Seriously, one of my favorite go to stories. I know the next book is the last and that makes me sad, but I'm also really excited to see how it's going to end. Anything can happen!
Another fantastic read in the Resurrection Chronicles, Demon Fall introduces June, a woman who managed to survive the apocalypse thus far without the help of the Fey. She’s rescued from the farm at the end of Demon Disgrace, but she arrives in Tenacity with a vengeance. An outsider coming in, she questions all the rules the survivors from Whiteman and previously rescued by the Fey have grown used to, and shakes things up for both Tenacity and Tolerance. I loved seeing the communities that have grown familiar throughout the series in a fresh perspective, and see someone other than Mya, Emily, and Matt fighting for real change for everyone, and integrating the Fey into the lives of the human survivors. June’s story is at times bittersweet, but there’s a great deal of vindication in seeing her push for change and give the point-of-view needed to come up with ideas that work to improve their lives in a way that’s positive and harder to resist than some of the tactics shown thus for. Plus, the infected are continuing to evolve, and the epilogue hints at the coming conclusion featuring Molev. I LOVE this series, and am looking forward to both parts of Demon Defeat as well as Demon Blind and any other Novellas (or even spin-offs) Melissa might come up with in the future.
I honestly can't imagine living in a world where I can't move freely and have to watch everything from an underground place of fear. These infected are becoming so much smarter as the stories go on, and with each new story of survival, we see them evolving into a more formidable foe. This is no different for June and Adam. they only want to be able to live above ground, and as they watch the infected on the cameras from their bunkers, they begin to see just how much more intelligent they become with time and trial. They know there will come a time when survival underground won't be enough. And that's where the fae come in along with those who are ready to give them the support they need.
There are always casualties, and this isn't an easy situation to overcome, but with the help of the fae, June will find more to look forward to in a world that is more than she expected.
Each of these stories is so exciting. The fear and danger are difficult to overcome, but each of the characters finds a way to do exactly that. This is another hit by the author in this world. I'll be sorely heartbroken when the series ends, but I look forward to whatever she has planned ahead.
Once again, I loved this next book in the series. Every book has different characters and different struggles and needs the Faye always want a woman of their own Adam and June. We're trying to survive in a bunker that his family had gotten ready when the infected took over his uncles farm. They were there. There was animals in the bar and they were trying to take care of them too but unfortunately the infected found out where they were and kept hiding out, trying to get to them just when things got super super bad for them. The Fey showed up and they watched them In awe that they were so strong lifted up the cattle that were left alive put them in trucks. Adam and her are lucky because the fee did save them and took them to tenacity camp but they were not treated very well because Adam believe that there are supplies and food belong to them and him and Emily were beaten badly but then they were moved to tolerance camp and things started to change for them, but Adam suffered greatly from his meeting, and his legs didn't work right so he did in the end sacrificed for June and found love and happiness again with Tor
Wow, this is such a great book & great addition to the series. This is from an on-going series, & to really get the gist of the world building, a new reader should start with book 1 in the series, which is not a hardship by any stretch. Book 1-3 are about one couple, the rest of the books are a separate couple for each book, that each have an HEA -so to speak. This book flowed well, & was a “can’t put it down” type of read. There’s some emotional moments that did bring me to a few tears (definitely NOT ugly crying), but there is humor to help offset the heavy vibes, it’s definitely got an emotional roller coaster ride, with a fantastic HEA for June & Tor at the end.
I have been faithfully following the Resurrection Chronicles from Book 1! While the books have changed over the course of the series, this book felt like the original three, which captivated me several years ago. The storyline felt more like a post-apocalyptic survivalist novel with a focus on character development than an insta-love romance with hefty benefits to females. While the romance is still the backbone of the novel, this book returned to the treacherous navigation through the human experience for both humans and Fae. I'm glad I chose to read this novel as part of my 2023 Goodreads Reading Challenge.
"Tor loved me with a single-minded devotion that would never confine me. No, Tor’s love would set me free."
Not that race matters but I'm glad that June was of Asian descent. Finally! I would love a plus-size heroine though but I doubt we'll get one since the series is ending pretty soon. (I've pre-ordered Demon Defeat, the last one). Maybe MJ Haag will continue the series (fingers crossed).
I want to hear more about the infected, this story line is pretty interesting.
Good book, I've read the books back to back so at this point its almost nothing new. The only new thing is the change in the infected which I feel is not given enough attention.
I simply adore this series. I'm a great fan of free books and rarely buy anything by have brought every single one of these books. Haag is funny and soo descriptive and weaves the story so well, I never want the book to end. I'm sad there's only going to be one more I could easily read another 5. I'd even watch it on the big screen, so much better than Twilight of even 50 Shades and there hot!
OMG!!! This book was soo good. I laughed and cried and was anxious. This book sucked me in!! Just like all MJ Haag books, but each couple i love so much because each couple gets a piece of your heart. This one is about June. And her life, and struggle, and her heart, and honesty, and ability to speak truth and make others see it. Loved it and so sad to know that there is only one more book before this series ends...
Why am I so obsessed with this series??!! I can’t get enough. I’ve loved every book and this one was no different. Some humour, some teasing, some action, romance and everything in between - this book had everything I would have wanted. And the chemistry between Tor and June was amazing and so well done considering the path the story took. Great read and I enjoyed the little nuggets that suggest the last book will be full of twists and surprises.
MJ never ever disappoints! I cannot rave enough over this book. It hit every single feel to perfection. The perfect balance. BRAVO! I am going to be heart broken when we have to say good bye to this series, but I have no doubts that the next world created by MJ will be just as fantastic. Now please hit the buy now and enjoy while I go pre-order the next one!
This story is heartbreaking yet full of hope. June thought she had her happily ever after - until the end of the world arrived. The love of her life became someone she didn't recognize. Through her sorrow, she found something beautiful - the love of a fae who would do anything for her.
I swear this series gets better with every book! I devour them within hours and then eagerly wait for the next one. I really hope this series doesn't end anytime soon. I may cry when it does.
This one stands out from all the rest. It legit made me cry. I'm crying as I sit here typing this review, lol. Honestly, I'm not sure how I feel about the way things happened, but kudos to the author for making me feel invested enough in the characters to really care about them and cry for figments of her imagination 😂
I absolutely love this series!!! It just keeps getting better and better! June, Adam and Tor are such great characters! I loved how the book started with a couple that was together before the world went to shit. I liked how Tor was such an easy going guy and friends with both June and Adam. I really will be devastated when the series ends!
Poor June…and it wasn’t that Adam was a bad man necessarily, still I don’t believe that he would have ever married her. But she got everything she wanted and needed from sweet, hunky Tor. It’s funny how unqualified as these heroines are, they insert themselves, and somehow all wind up in leading roles in the communities.
It will be a sad day when this series ends. I know the next book will be the end . I think the characters are very unique. The caves would be somewhere I’d like to visit, except without the hell hounds.
I love everything Melissa writes…. This book didn’t disappoint. Been in love with this series from when only the first four novels were published- can’t wait to order physical copies of all her books as well😊
I was so in tune with June’s feelings. When she cried, I cried when she laughed, I laughed. I love this series and hope that it will continue for a long time. There is so much potential growth and story lines in this world. Keep doing what you’re doing M.J.!
Okay I jumped straight into book 9 without reading any other ones and let me tell you - I loved it! I was rooting for Tor the entire time. Gosh who wouldn't loved a fey like that???
Another amazing story from the fae world! Every couple I read in this world become my new favorite and this book is no exception! Can’t wait for the next book!!
