Well I finally finished Wright's The Spread Trilogy. The series is based on these corkscrew like, missile like things, landing on earth and then this weird bug spreads from them and they secrete this fungus. Once either come into contact with people it drives them crazy and drives them to kill others.

Once infected you turn quickly and you somehow morph into a creature with tallons and the like but you are also a lot physically weaker and inferior in a way to what you were originally. Slower moving as well.

So I enjoyed the series overall and this last book of the series focuses on our heroes fighting back at these creatures. At the end of book 2 the British army came in as the rescuers and we pick up from there. Is the army really the protector our heroes really thought or is there another agenda?

For the most part our heroes abide by the rules of the army but when they find out that the army is about to torch the village our heroes are from they want to go into the village to save any remaining survivors and they know there are some as they encountered them in book 2.

So there is not much too serious at all about this whole series. It is a lot of fun and I would say it is not that scary either. Perhaps a bit gross at times and of course it has its thrill moments and the like. It was just a fun read where you enjoy the pages you are reading but do not have to overthink things.

What the creatures are is only alluded to. The author seems to me to be steering you to an alien invasion of some sort but yet I really couldn't buy into that as bugs and a fungus just don't seem to be intelligent life forms. Also as part of these monsters their appears to be a leader which is constantly growing and absorbing other morphed humans. Wright does a great job describing this thing as it continues to grow. I mean I guess that leads to something of not of this earth but then again I cannot see the thing being part of an alien super race unless it is merely a tool of an alien super race clearing the earth for them to arrive. Oh well, none of that really matters in the scheme of things.

Though this is said to be the final book in the trilogy the ending is wide open to a fourth book and in a way I would really welcome that as a lot is unfinished here.

A recommended escape read if you are into this type of fiction. An easy four stars!!

It’s still ssspppprreeaadddinnnnnggggg!!!!!

As previously mentioned, this is not my favorite Iain Rob Wright ongoing horror saga. However, it has all the elements that I love in his writing: colourful characters, exciting story and action, and messed-up monster(s). You
never know who will get killed off and which new characters will appear and become an important and primary part of the story. That’s how good Iain is with character profiles and forcing the reader to empathize and care for the newcomer.

‘The Stand’ reminds me just a little too much of the ‘Hell
On Earth’ series and I liked that one much better. I’m still curious to know what will happen next. Iain Rob Wright is also still one of my favourite writers.

Continuing where Book 2 left off we delve a little deeper into ‘The Spread’ getting a little more information on how to fight it. Lost a star only because the action was slow until the group left the army camp. Once they left, it mirrored Book 1 & 2 with back to back greens action.

The character development in this book was really great. The group of strangers having fully turned into a doomsday family. Can’t wait to see what happens next.

4.5 wow these books are absolutely nonstop action. The story takes a very surprising turn in this book and I like characters I didn't expect to while also getting the satisfying redemption for characters I didn't like! Good luck with this one... Great series and will continue.

More chills and thrills

Great continuation of the story. The guys from the stag party unite with locals in an effort to leave the village. But it it way more complicated than just a stroll down the road. The army, hundreds of infected and a surprise behemoth are serious roadblocks to overcome. Awesome and easy read. Bummed the next installment won't be out until December....

One of my favourite and least favourite things about a zombie book is the play between life and death when it comes to characters, specifically the main character. There is something very raw and real about an author killing an important character. No one is safe, which is exactly the point of a real-life apocalypse. I appreciate when they use their writing power to make their deaths meaningful, but i also like it when they make it meaningless (there gotta be an emphasis on how it was meaningless, tho).

I dont know if i necessary love the direction this book series is taking. The risk of killing important characters is also making the plot less meaningful (which i dont really mind because, again, it feels raw and real). However, you gotta be smart about it. Im excited to see where this is going because I feel like I cant judge this book without reading the next one.

PS i gave it 3.5 stars because i didnt like the monster idea. A monster made out of zombies like a big lump with legs? hmmm no thank you.

This, the third installment of “The Spread” is a great continuation to the previous two. The beginning bits of this one are a kind of recap of the first two books, which was very welcomed since I sometimes don’t retain large patches of previous installments since I read many books from other authors in different genres between the installments. But once you are nudged and reminded, you are right back on track. One thing this author does masterfully is the way he grabs a hold of the reader and pulls them inside the pages of the book. Once inside you can easily maneuver the landscape, communicate with the characters and partake in the plot. As in all of Iain’s books the characters are well defined and the plots are complicated but easily envisioned. It’s a long break till the next book, but that’s the game we play when a piece of work is done in installment. I look forward to the next installment.

If you love claustrophobic horror with a dashing of body-horror then 'The Spread' will knock your socks off.”

What another great little book! The Spread series continues to get better and better! The Stand is the third entry, and once again it has topped its predecessors.

I’m loving the idea of the greens. How they work, how they think and how it spreads. This book revealed a bit more about this strange virus, or is it aliens, and I’m fully committed.

The characters also keep getting better, despite not many of the crew not making it the be end. One death really stands out as an upsetting twist but this just adds to the fact that this book is truly a nightmare! Great read!

Wow

Great series few shocks in this book that I never saw coming at all (one of them being the mention of Runcorn not far from me). Our heros have fought the monster and lots of green people along the way . Will they survive and make it back to Manchester? I can't wait to find out.

Lots of casualties as the fungus spreads. Both to the villagers and the stag party. The Army retreats. Bleach is an effective weapon as are loud noises. It's not looking good as we head to Book 4.

Once more Iain Rob Wright has shown he's the master at these kinds of horror stories. This one had me gripped right from the start and defiantly refused to let go. There's never a moments let up in the action, and what action it is! We have our survivors from the previous book still struggling to survive when they meet up with the army. There's tension all the way and a host of fun to read characters, old and new, that bring something to the story. Then there's the evil that threatens their lives. This is the part the author shows his talent not only for his writing but also his imagination. Books one and two were both excellent reads and this is just as good. This series is a firm favourite with me and I can't wait for book 4.

Okay, enough already!

A personal pet peeve of mine: Authors who like to drag the series too long. Don't get me wrong - it was a good book but like the first 2, was only a couple hundred pages long. Now we are onto a 4th book. Charging me again for another half-glass of water.

This was a good book but perhaps it should be labeled "rinse and repeat". In this book's ending, we finally get a glimpse of Sophie - Ryan's fiancee. But, I am not sure I care enough to go to the 4th book.

WOW The Stand (The Spread book 3 in series of 6) by Iain Rob Wright is another instalment of the horrifying ordeal Ryan, Aaron and his close knit group of survivors have to deal with.

Ryan and his group arrive in Chorikill where they find themselves under attack from the greens and find refuge with an army camp who are rounding up survivors who are uninaffected. They are told that half the globe is under attack from the fungus and lives were lost.

They then flee from the army camp back to the pub in the village but they are up against Dale the pub landlord who is a deranged control freak who hates the English but one in particular being Ryan.

The group are about to lose a few of their friends whilst under attack from not only the greens but Dale himself and even more terrifying the beast or monster.

I loved what Cameron the big Scot says "Every man dies, but not every man truly lives."

Cameron also has a sense of humour when he spots Andrew Lennon the milkman who has turned and chuckled that "His scouse accent is so thick even Stevie Gerrard wouldn't have understood him."

The village is under attack by both the greens and the army and Ryan's group are in the thick of it all. They yet again seek refuge from the army and are relieved when they are inside the army trucks escaping the village.

Where will the road lead them all to this time round.

This follows the story of Ryan and Aaron as they find themselves stranded at a military camp just outside the village. They along with a few others that survived the initial attack of the mutant fungi are being quarantined for their own safety and that of the camp.

Miles is still calling for calm, Cameron is still being the loud mouth and Tom is still struggling to come to terms with all that is going on. But at least they are safe, well for the time being.

Once again this is another successful book in the series and I feel more captured by this one, the previous two are really good but this one has just got more to it. It focuses on the characters and I think learning more about them especially as they gel together gives the book that additional edge.

This is gory, there are some interesting and very shocking events. New ideas and theories are being thrown about from others involved in the story and this is adding different perspective’s.

Another quick read and continues the story of the survivors but leaves with a new part to continue in the next book. Ideal for fans who like a sci-fi, apocalypse style horror series and I would definitely recommend this one.

Reading Stuff 'n' Things

What another great sequel to the previous 2 in the series ... you really have to have read them in order to understand the characters and the story otherwise you will be totally lost.

Once again, we are treated to an alternative take to the usual zombie story and the impact of an "invasion" on humanity. I was gripped and itching to find out how my favourite characters will fair - remember, with Iain's books, no one is safe and just when you think things are going to work out, once again, Iain throws a giant spanner in the works and everything goes to pot.

With excellent characters, both old and new, tension, thrills and definitely spills, The Stand is a great addition to the story of The Spread and my thanks must go to Iain for accepting me into his "street team" and for providing me with a copy in return for comments and an honest, unbiased and unedited review.

At the end of book 2, a group of survivors from the village, including Ryan and his brother Aaron, made it to the outskirts of the village and are taken in by the British Army. At first, it seems that their safety is finally assured, but then cracks begin to appear. The camp is under constant attack by the 'greens' and the fungus in general, in the form of infected birds, rats etc. Aware that the army are planning to exercise a scorched earth policy and burn the village before pulling out to the relative safety of Edinburgh, Ryan and his friends make their way back into the village to warn the group of survivors still holding out at the pub, but things don't quite go to plan...

Quite a shocking lost of a pivotal character at the end of this one but a glimpse of someone who has been in the background right at the end and may now be moving to centre stage. Overall, I would rate this as 3 stars.

The fungus is spreading...

The body count keeps rising...

It's time to fight back through the army.

Ryan and his brother may have managed to remain alive so far but it is surely just a matter of time before the fungus, the zombie like people or the infected animals get to them and put an end to that but can the army take a stand and battle back against the evil that is wreaking havoc?

Another offering in the series and yet again an example of how to deliver a horror story from one of the top authors in the genre. The series has developed not just the story but the characters too and the fact this is continuing in this book too means it has the same feel as the previous pieces in the series.

Recommend it? You should already be reading this series by now!

In this book in the series, we experience the helplessness and hopelessness when even the military cannot help. The problem at the heart of the series proves to have hit half of the planet, with small pockets of uninfected safety surrounded by the apocalypse. The first half is a lot slower than it was in the second volume, but the second half offers the same amount of action, terror, and suspense. After rating the first two volumes five stars, I'm dropping my rating to four stars at this point, as the author was destroying the relatable characters much faster than he could create them. By 80 percent through this book, the remaining characters felt very flat and I started disconnecting from them emotionally.

The Crazy Continues...

Ryan and his group are hanging with the army that has declared war on the greens.
The army has the bright idea to burn the entire village but will wait till the following morning. This doesn't give Ryan time to head back into the fray to warn the rest of the uninfected that are hiding in the pub.
Will this be the most amazing rescue ever or will this be the worst mistake they ever make?

Action packed throughout and loving every minute...now on to book 4
Highly recommend reading all in order.

Love this series!

I read his last 2 books back to back in two days!
Love how Iain Rob Wright writes. You get sucked from the first page. This was a great story by a great author. You know it’s a good story when you feel like you are right there with the characters and genuinely care about what happens to them.
Another one hit out of the park! Haven’t been disappointed by any of his books so far.

Awesome 3rd Part

As I have continued to read this series I have grown more and more excited! Very well written tale with a different edge to a familiar story. Exciting characters whom you actually care about in this awesome apocalyptic tale.
I started this series as a bit of a filler as I had the trial for kindle unlimited but I have got to be honest I really enjoyed it and can't wait till the 4th book of the series.

Doing the sign of the cross, he spoke solemnly. "It is everywhere, as we feared."

Book three in this series definitely packed a punch, with the gang making it to safety at an army base, only to be pursued by the greens once again. There were some great twists and turns and some unexpected character deaths, with the beast basically becoming the blob that can't be stopped. The last chapter set the scene for the next book and I can't wait til December.

The story keeps getting better

How many Manchester lads will make it out of the village? I am not a fan of killing off main characters but if done correctly, it can add mags tension into the story. You will have to read the book to see who I am talking about. We still don't know where the spirals came from but it is obvious they were prefilled with those horrid little bugs and we know those didn't come from earth!

This series continues to impress and surprise me. This installment has plenty of action and suspense, and continues to allow the story to unfold almost organically. Without want to disclose any spoilers, it would also be remise of me not to acknowledge the courage of the author in not become too emotionally invested in particular characters at the expense of doing what is necessary to allow the narrative to grow.

I'm dumbfounded on how well Iain Rob Wright makes his characters. I grew really attached to each of them.

This instalment of "The Spread: the stand" see's our survivors face off against their biggest challenge yet.

This particular book was filled with various emotions: anger, fear, regret, betrayal, sadness, grief, love, forgiveness, kindness, family, disgust, shock, anxiety, horror, panic, joy, relief...

Just tell me where I can forward my counselling bill to Iain Rob Wright. 😂

Since this is the third in an apocalyptic series, none of the characters seem safe. We lost some great characters, but we also gained some good ones!
This fungus virus is insane and it seems like there is almost no controlling it. I really wanna know where it came from.
The author has done a great job building this world and growing this story with the characters.
I’m looking forward to continuing it!

The Spread gets better with each book.

The Spread 3 (The Stand) is action packed throughout. I was rooting for Ryan, Cameron and co all the way. A number of sad parts in this one, but a lot of hope for the survivors. But will they manage to get away from the deadly green fungus and the beast? Another great edition to a thrilling series.
