I am Misty Vixen (not my real name obviously), and I imagine that if you’re reading this, you want to know a bit more about me.
In the beginning (late 2014), I was an erotica author. I wrote about sex, specifically about human men banging hot inhuman women. Monster girls, alien ladies, paranormal babes. It was a lot of fun, but as the years went on, I realized that I was actually striving to be a harem author. This didn’t truly occur to me until late 2019-early 2020. Once the realization fully hit, I began doing research on what it meant to be a harem author. I’m kind of a slow learner, so it’s taken me a bit to figure it all out.
That being said, I’m now a harem author!
Just about everything I write nowadays is harem fiction: one man in loving, romantic, highly sexual relationships with several women. Nowadays, I tend to write more human on human stuff, but I still have a lot of non-human ladies in mind for the future, so if that’s your thing then stick around.
I’d say beyond writing harems, I tend to have themes that I always explore in my fiction, and they encompass things like trust, communication, respect, honesty, dealing with emotional problems in a mature way…basically I like writing about functional and healthy relationships. Not every relationship is perfect, but I don’t really do drama unless the story actually calls for it. In total honesty, I hate drama. I hate people lying to each other and I hate needless rom-com BS plots that could have been solved by two characters having a two minute conversation.
Seemed an okay premise, but... A lot of things that just fall short. Grammar is fairly decent, but it's simplistic so I would hope so. Except sometimes there's a failure to keep tenses or person perspective, but a nitpick. The collapse has happened for some time now if the MC grew up not knowing how it was before. Some of the items they're scavenging are okay, but some would no longer be any good, unless there's somehow medicine still being made. Ammo would be super short supply, they really go through it like candy though. Also way to attract attention to yourself as firearms are loud. Condoms have an expiry. There would no longer be protection other than the old fashion keeping track of your cycles, or praying the pull out method works. There's zero flirting/seduction. Just lots of, "Hey, wanna bang?" MC: "Sure!" The smut is... adequate. It gets stale quick. It's not the worst out there in the genre, but it just feels...lacking. Still, none of that might matter to you, if so give it a try. I was going to for curiosity but I keep falling asleep reading it so might just move on to something else.
I don't really read lots of harem books though I have read a few, I find they tend to lack in the actual story department and many of them drag the series on too much.
That said I encountered this author here on goodreads via the book "Beneath the Ashes" and I quite enjoyed it. Not a super complicated book but an interesting story idea/premise and the harem part didn't detract much as I didn't feel it over took the story.
I preceded to try the RAW series and thought the story was good and worth the read though there was more harem in it.
I am now reading this Haven series and OMG so not good like the previous books by this author...its 50% harem then 25% them talking about their sex/harem and only 25% story and that really, really detracts from the book overall to the point I am having trouble finishing this and have started skipping the ludicrous harem parts. Kind of feels like it was written by a 15 year old virgin boy some of these scenarios.
Hopefully her new post apocalyptic series doesn't turn "Haven like" and doesn't go nutty with the harem bit every time the MC turns around.....
Hoo boy, that was a long one. There is a definite pattern in the author's works of a decent guy (who can really put out) attracting an unreasonable number of female sexual partners. Likewise the survivalist elements are common, with the more recent "A Warm Place" following a very similar line to these books.
You know what you're getting (to some extent) with anything with "harem" in the title, so fair play. The main thing that bothered me about this book was the MC constantly saying "I'm sorry" about shit he had nothing to do with. This is a social convention probably begun as "I'm sorry to hear that" which is much more reasonable. I'm partial to "wow, that sucks!" or "my condolences" as appropriate.
Regardless, writing quality is overall good, though the 1800+ pages in this series could be half of that (maybe) with the detailed sex scenes removed, or at least more fade-to-black with repeat partners. I liked the story elements and the action, followed by the psycho-social aspects, but YMMV.
Not the typical “post-apocalypse” tale. Though a nuclear war is alluded to, this tale spins around the breakdown of the human species into new, mutated ones that mimic characteristics of animals - certain cats, reptiles, and aquatic life forms. These species manage to coexist until a terrifying virus begins to mutate some of them into terrifying, vicious undead.
The story revolves around the young human man David, and the group of woman (both human and inhuman) drawn to him. Together, they work to build a safe haven for themselves, gather together the things they need to survive, and fight off legions of hostiles, both human and inhuman.
I felt the tale was VERY well done, and left me satisfied with the ending.
Hey Misty this was such an amazing awesome series I SO enjoyed it very much from the characters to the storytelling. The best part is the addition of ur inhumans what a cool interesting concept a world of different species other than humans kinda like mutants. Ur imagination is on point and very refreshing hopefully you have some more on the way about inhumans especially with the Haven series. I liked the other series as well can't wait for more of them to be wrote by U........😁👍!!!!??
DNF. Gag, this was bad. That's what I get for reading a "men's" apocalypse novel series. That statement was what made me curious enough to buy it. What made this for men? Well I found out. And i like sci-fi erotica. This was just terrible. "I don't even care if you put a baby in me....." said no woman ever during an apocalypse. At least make this sound believable even if it is a fantasy. . Terrible.
Those has a really good story under the surface and it carried me through weaker points in the series. Whether you’re looking for it or not, this probably the horniest post apocalyptic story I’ve ever read. Very harem/polyamorous as well. Sex scenes maybe a bit too frequent and at weird times though? Also, no AV characters after David spent so much time checking off his interspecies sex tour?
I really enjoyed this series and am glad I could get it in one book. Hopefully the series hasn’t ended and there will be future books. It has a good Mc and the supporting cast is interesting and keeps you engaged. There is a lot of action and also sexy fun times. I find myself compelled to read the rest of Misty’s work.
A FIVE STAR read, you won't want to put down. The entire series flows, enticing you from one book to another. Red it almost non-stop! Misty put her soul into this story. Haven pulls out all the adult stops and tells a believable post apocalyptic social revival. Heroes, heroines and scum! Highly recommended!! Thank you, Misty!!!!!
First, I'm a huge fan, this is the third compendium I have read and it was superb. Watching the cast grow and develop book to book, was extremely enjoyable. Strong female characters without becoming Mary Sue, and the male lead grew into his role from a scared kid to a confident man. Read this series, you'll enjoy it!
To me this story could have been even better without quite so much sex, but it really held my attention. Also,it would have been nice to have explained what a jag, viper, wraith, stalker, and other strange beings were. It would have been nice to find out if they found the origin of the marauders. Oh Hell, it's still a very good book!
Boy! What a great series. I mean, so much adventure. The setting, the fantasy. I like how you wove the day to day of setting up a community with dealing with race and relationships. Sex is pretty great, I liked the varied encounters. It was interesting how you dealt with the issue of unwanted pregnancy despite all the sex happening. Superbly done!!!
Misty Vixen is an incredible author and gives you everything that you could want in a story! This masterpiece has characters, story, plot, action, adventure, sex, action, intrigue, twists, and turns! One of the best things about this story is that it could easily produce another 8 books! Bravo Misty, Bravo!
It definitely could've used an editor as it has enough minor errors to feel like a rough draft. There are also some minor continuity issues but also at one point referred to the MC, David, as Jack. Not entirely sure how that happened considering there is no character by that name. That being said I did quite enjoy it for what it is.
This story had me completely engrossed from beginning to end! The sexuality was somewhat over the top for me, but understandable. However, the underlying plot and resolutions kept me completely involved.
This is a great series of books. The characters are in depth and well developed. The sex scenes are awesome but the character progression and development is great too. All around good read.
This is one of those books that I just couldn't put down. I loved the characters and the sequence of events was great. The details were explicit and to the point. I really enjoyed this tale. 5*****
It was a great read and long but worth it. All the characters had emotions and trust in what they were doing. Keep up the same great work. Take time for yourself and enjoy yourself. Thanks
It was great to read the complete series all at once, not having to wait for the next one. The story was good, the adventures exciting. A good read for harem fans. The author's other books are good reads also.
I highly recommend this series, it was really good, nice characters that act and think smart in a harsh world with deep relationships and lots of action and sexy times
I have been an avid reader of the harem genre recently and I have to say Haven is a standout. The MC isn't your boring typical alpha male type. Most of the women are actually more badass than the MC. And the focus on the relationships and the complicated intricacies of multiple relationships was very different and well done. I highly recommend this series.
