It’s not every day that a vengeful god lays claim to your soul.
When Emlyn Graves woke up that morning, he thought he’d be doing what he always did: working the land, drinking at the inn, and warding off the agents of the tyrannical local baron.
But when his soul is corrupted by a new dark master, Emlyn is forced to use his god’s gifts to survive… and to fulfil a prophecy with the potential to change the world forever.
Emlyn’s choice is simple: embrace an eternity of infernal torment, or accept his fate, and become the worst kind of hero imaginable.
Skullsinger is a prequel to upcoming series The Soulslinger Chronicles.
Rey Morfin is a sci-fi and thriller author who lives and works in London, UK. As a kid, he was fascinated by the strange and the unexplained, and so it makes perfect sense that his books often contain speculative, paranormal, or science fiction elements.
He writes the ongoing space opera PI series A GALAXY, ALIVE, following sassy adventurer Syl Raynor as she navigates the stars, hunting her missing sister.
Skull singer by O.S. Marrow weaves a frightening and terrifying tale of ancient gods, evil, cults, and love. A farmer and a barmaid in a small village are happy until the land Baron and cultist mess up the farmers life. They turn him into a Skull faced man that has evil power. Then things get only worse!
What happens when a poor farmer finds himself gifted with the powers of a death god? Chaos, mayhem, and adventure, that's what! Emlyn just wanted to work his plot of land and possibly (hopefully) marry Grace the barmaiden. Then the followers of Hades set their sights upon him, and nothing goes as planned.
I really liked this story. It had a lot of adventure packed into a relatively short read, and the MC's powers integrated really well with the overall plot. Characters felt real and fleshed out, and I found myself rooting for them quite quickly—even getting upset when one of them died. If I'm that invested in a story, I know I'm enjoying it.
While this book is pitched as a sort of prequel to the Soulslinger Chronicles, I'd say it stands up just fine as its own standalone adventure. That said I fully intend to check out the later releases, if only to see where the author takes the story.
What can happen in a world where Cowboys are pitted against each other by ancient gods to fulfill a prophecy? Skullsinger provides an interesting glimpse in to such a world. I had no idea what to expect for this story, I received an offer of a review copy of the audiobook from the author and after looking at the cover I figured I’d give it a listen. Mr. Morfin has created a world populated by cowboys, and regular folks engaged in not just living hand to mouth, but in trying to survive in a hardscrabble world ruled by despots, not to mention being put in the middle of these battles between the gods and their acolytes. To say this story is entertaining is an understatement, not only is it action-packed, there are several twists that leave the listener/reader realizing they can’t predict the course of this story.
Loved every minute of this, although 0.5 is an odd place to start in an ongoing 'chronicles' series. Emlyn is abducted and imbued with the powers of a death-like entity that surfaces with a vengeance when someone presses him. I could do without the stereotypical prophecy stuff that seems to recur in all fantasy novels, but this is awesome for the beginning of a saga. The chemistry between Emlyn and Grace is charming. My best qualification of this would be if Ghost Rider was a supernatural western.
I got this novella awhile back as a ebook on Amazon, because it was on sale.
I decided to picked it up around Halloweentime, because the cover was screaming Halloween to me.
It's about a farmer that kidnaps by a cult that worships Hades, and he wakes up then discovered that he's chosen by Hades and he's destines to kills five people to bring upon the apocalypse.
I thought the concept of story is pretty cool, but the end fell out of place and it has been rushed.
I wasn't sure what this story was going to be about, but I enjoyed it. I'm not even sure what genre it would fall into. It was a form of good vs evil, gods vs mortals and a love story on the side. It was enemies becoming friends and lots of action. A very interesting story and worth listening to.
It started good but got really bad the main characters was unlikable and boring supposedly he had these powers but he never actually used them for his benefit!!
