Chatty, down to earth, Chelsea Roberts is cruising through life – successful career, great circle of friends, cute dog. Olivia lives by the ocean with her partner and a crew of spirited pets who keep life interesting. She’s happiest near the beach or on a trail, loves wine nights with friends, and has a soft spot for truly terrible reality TV. She finds humor in almost everything, believes in the power of a good love story, and occasionally does nothing at all—with great enthusiasm.
I don’t like giving low ratings on books- in fact I sometimes give higher ratings to help boost the book but I did not enjoy this.
It seemed like a badly written wattpad story. Way too rushed and the writing could use some work as again, it gave off the impression of a badly written wattpad story.
I hope this wasn’t too harsh but yes I recommend better story planning, personalization of characters and more detailed writing.
What a good read! The book flowed so much, it is so funny, HOT, hilarious !!! I LOVED everything about him!
I LOVED Chels and Lucy, SO MUCH. I loved their pranks, and I knew they loved each other. So beautiful together! I sure wanted more of them, because this book was really GOOD!
I recommend this reading, you will have fun reading! Go for it!
A warm-heart story about two adults with successful careers but can’t stop acting like high school nemeses thinking they hated each other to the gut and how different they are from each other. The banter between them them is absolutely screaming chemistry.
This work is my favorite from the author, must beter polished and the POV switching is handled much better.
Loved this book! Funny. Cute. Romantic. And well written. Enjoyed the flow and pace. Often lesbian romance books are terribly long winded. This book delivered what it promised - a light-hearted rom com. Throughly enjoyed it!
Such a great book. So funny! And super sweet, and romantic. I couldnt help but love all the characters. Have read the authors other books and really enjoy her style of writing. Cant recommend this book enough.
What a ride this story was. A fun read with more going on than you might expect in a story with this kind of premise. Going into it, all i was expecting was a simple case of people who hate eachother fall in love. I wasnt wrong, but i think this story has more going on than the simple premise implies.
The characters were the biggest surprise. Chelsea and Lucy had more depth than i was expecting. I like that we really come to understand who they are as individuals as the story progresses. We understand who they are, what matters to them, and what drives them(the three most important things to know about a character). It helps that the story focuses on things outside the core romance too, giving it room to breath and organically give these details. The nice thing about the stuff going on outside the romance is it also lends to the pacing. Alot of time passes, but it doesnt feel like it jumps around too much.
But there is a downside to the characters being the way they are. The serious nature of who they are sort of in conflict with the cartoonish antics of their pranks. I suppose this isnt an outright problem, in fact, just thinking about it i cant help but think its intentional. Its just an oddity for me, something that made me raise an eyebrow early on. I think the story naturally progresses to a point where this is not really an issue. The pranks made their relationship fun early on before delving more into romantic territory.
The real issue i have with the story is the way the climax plays out. Its just a little too hollywood for my taste. I suppose the whole nature of the pranks makes their whole relationship over the top, so it might be appropriate. All the 'i love you' talk seemed premature. I think if they added a little bit more between the sex scene and the climax they could have pulled it off a little better. At the very least, i didnt find it unbelievable, it just didnt immediately click into place as being love until i thought about it for a minute. Not a deal breaker, just not as satisfying as it could have been for me.
I really liked how they used the perspective. Usually, these kinds of stories stick with either being one characters perspective, or two that alternate each chapter. Both can be done well, but i have noticed that two character perspective stories can run into an issue of not having enough ideas for one of the characters. I liked that this story was willing to have multiple Chelsea chapters in a row, given that(despite the fact that we see both perspectives) she is definitely the main character. Lucys perspective was used more sparingly, but it resulted in all her chapters being really good.
As i said, this is a fun story. As long as you dont take it too seriously, then you will probably enjoy it. The romance isnt the best in the world, but its still satisfying overall. Its also on kindle unlimited, which is a plus if you are someone like me who likes to try new stories but dont want to gamble money on it being worth your time.
"Love to Hate You" is a light-hearted, hilarious, heartwarming, quick/easy read with an abundance of hidden depth and unexpected feels galore; the pranks Lucy and Chelsea played on one another AND the banter between them left me in stitches and flipping from page to page to see how their story of "hate" would eventually give way to "love". I do wish a few more pages were dedicated to Lucy's POV (it does seem a bit lopsided in that regard), that Chelsea confided in Lucy (the way she inspired Lucy to do) and I thought the epilogue dragged a bit too much. A few inconsistencies in language makes one aware of the non-American origins of the author...despite the fact that the characters are based/story unfolds in the USA.
I feel like I'm on cloud 9 after reading this book!
I read this book in one sitting, I couldn't put it down. The main characters narration in their own chapters is absolutely hilarious, I laughed from beginning to end. The tension between them was palpable. Very lovable characters and a beautiful, very well written story. I absolutely loved it, cannot recommend it enough! If you're looking for a book to cheer you up this is definitely it.
Great book! Laughed so much. Refreshing change from the some of the drab lesbian reads out there. Was nice to read something cute and romantic. Loved the banter between Chels and Lucy. Yes, could’ve been a bit longer but some of us enjoy fast-paced romances. Loved it.
I never fell on love with a flat mate ever, so I believe this occurring is very unlikely but most romances never happen that way. However one of my exes fell for one of my roomstrs so anything is possible.
This book was a light, engaging read, and had me chuckling the entire way through. I could have done with more of Lucy's perspective, but even as is - I really enjoyed this read.
Hilarious and romantic. Okay, there are a few typos etc, easily fixed, but what doesn't need fixing is the story. It's so funny it had me laughing out loud. And it is really romantic. I loved it.
Puhh I think the rating really depends on your expectations. If you’re looking for something deep with lots of layers, you probably won’t enjoy this book much. If you’re looking for a light reading, feel good story while you just want to turn off the world, you picked the right book.
One day, Chelsea’s landlord knocks on the door and lets her know that she’ll be living with Lucy. They dislike each other, pull pranks and try to make the other move out. We’ll just forget that these are two adults, we’re talking about, so that it’s probably very unlikely that something like this is usual and see it as an enemies to lovers story with lovely and funny main and side characters, written in first pov (Chelsea’s and Lucy’s).
I really missed Lucy’s pov a couple of times, especially after their first kiss. Would’ve been nice to know about her thoughts as she was the one kissing Chelsea (let’s say) out of the blue. What did she think? Why did she do that? How did she feel afterwards?
Sometimes I got lost as the story jumped from scene to another without a proper narrative.
Reading my review, it might not be surprising when I say, that English isn’t my first language, but even I have spotted some mistakes here and there while reading.
Overall, I’d recommend this book to anyone who just wants to read a cute and funny story.
Thanks to Chelsea's landlord Lola, she and Lucy have a forced-meet rather than a meet-cute. Things get off to a rocky start when Chelsea spends most of the first day recovering from her New Year's Eve activities. This is not that unusual as she seems to spend a great deal of her time either drinking or suffering the ensuing hangover.
The pranks they pull on each other in the earlier chapters are reminiscent of the tween-age hi-jinks during the summer camp scenes in the remake of Parent Trap. While slightly amusing, this leaves a strong impression of immaturity making it more difficult for this reader to believe their developing relationship once they do begin communicating. Fortunately, the good supporting cast helps sell the idea that Chelsea and Lucy are functioning adults capable of a loving commitment. In the end this is an okay read with the expected HEA and some entertaining moments.
It is true that the most passionate and powerful emotion besides love is hate. It takes courage to overcome the vulnerability of oneself to let the walls down of hurt, abandon and deception. One just needs to take a chance and see if the one is right in front of is the one.
Loved the build of this story, but fell off near the end...
The build between Lucy and Chelsea was genuine, and I wouldn't say rushed, but after all the pranks and mean spirited things could we get dates and relationship bond and chemistry. While, I love Monty, I was feel Monty and Chelsea more as a could, but thats just me.
What an absolute banger of an enemies to lovers story. The banter between Chelsea and Lucy was exquisitely written and it had me laughing out loud repeatedly.
I really enjoyed the development of their love story. If you’re looking for excellent banter and wholesome characters this book is definitely for you.
Third book by Olivia Lucas and it was just so good. Enemies-ish to lovers, funny banters, entertaining pranks, tiny dash of spice and very enjoyable characters. I’m still surprised that Chelsea, as a lawyer, can be so forgetful and clumsy, as well as Lucy as a doctor, required to live with a roommate but despite those microscopic things, i really enjoyed that book
It was a bit hard to read. It needed some proofreading for general grammar but also because a lot of the time, things just did not make sense, like something was copy and pasted into the middle of a paragraph and there's no explanation, it's just confusing.
I kept felling my stomach drop out every time the “broke up”. I loved how she finally told Lucy that she loved her. I guess I am just a romantic but this story was a perfect love story. I recommend it to every romantic..
Omg their journey through it all had me laughing crying screaming at them it's a beautifully crafted story you nailed it definitely a must congratulations
Enemies to Lovers Sapphic romance. I liked the overall idea of the story, but it felt rushed, and lacked substance. I consistently felt like there should be so much more that was written in almost every scene. It was a good story with a solid ending.
I started off enjoying the humor, but I thought the pranks went on too long. Maybe I'm just a little too old, but would have appreciated their positive relationship developed longer. For goodness sake, they were two professionals - a lawyer and a doctor - not students in my classroom!
I really enjoyed Blurred Lines and Working Progress, so I was disappointed reading this, I enjoyed the pranks and the initial get together but that was a little rushed and then everything else that happened was even more rushed sadly.
