Tony:
"How can I explain this? There’s really no explanation for the way I feel. It’s beyond me. Maybe it happened on my last tour of duty, where I’d been wounded, spent months in the VA hospital with nothing but tough therapy, and reading love letters to pass the time, or to keep me sane.
The letters weren’t from my wife, but an admirer. I hadn’t heard from my wife in months. I think her last note informed me that she’d moved on, taking our dog with her, and filed for a divorce. I guess she couldn’t handle a damaged man without a job, with little or no income, and coming home.
Now it’s time for me to accept that I’m a broken man. I’ve lost my identity because I was a soldier, a leader of men, and all I have now are these few love letters from an unknown woman.
Can this woman be as broken as I am? What will it take to make me whole—two broken pieces coming together?"

What will happen when Tony falls in love because of a few letters, texts, and Emails only to discover that the person behind the letters isn't who he imagined?
The "Wounded Inked" 3 book series contain hurt/ comfort, straight to gay, and fake boyfriend with HFN, and HEA in the final book.

Guy in the military is smitten by letters from a secret pen pal. He assumes they're written by a woman, but it turns out it's a guy with a school assignment to write to a soldier.

The plot setup reeled me in, and I still find the idea of it appealing. But I just can't with the writing style.

This is a weird one for me.

The premise is great, it totally hooked me, but the writing was not good. It was rambling and the dialogue was a little awkward. Both characters weren't that likeable for a good proportion of the book either. I'm honestly surprised I didn't DNF.

And yet... I actually finished it and would read the next one purely because I love the whole premise of this book. Plus it did get kinda better after the 60%-ish mark.

The ending is also really annoying. This isn't a complete book. I feel like all three books in this series are one book, that's been split up into 3 by the author just to drag things out and get more sales.

TL;DR... I have no idea how I didn't DNF on this one, it was not well written, and yet, the premise was so good that I actually might read the next book when it's out. And I'll just pray the writing gets better! I'm so confused! lol

At least it was free at the time I purchased it. It was that bad I almost didn’t finish it. The writing was inconsistent and confusing at times. I couldn’t really follow what was going on or even cared to towards the end.

New to me author. This is a mm contemporary story set in the USA. Main characters are Parker a rich kid who’s parents send him off to college as a mature student and Tony a marine Sargent who has been forced to retire injured. Insta love on Parker’s side but Tony does not believe he is gay. Did not like the ending. Told from duel POV

Waste of time

I was prepared to give this book 2 stars, until the ending. This book deserves its one star for the plot idea. The rest... was lost somewhere between zero editing (i.e: all questions end in a “.” not a “?”), no sentence structure and flat stereotypical characters. Rough paragraph transitions and awkward time transitions. The characters made me so mad. They are so over the top and unnecessary. The gay main character... why is he such a bum? Entitled rich boy... and he agrees in the book too.

Read the sample, and note the writing style does not change or get better.

Oh! And it ends on a weak, irritating cliffhanger and the next book costs money. Not worth the money, and the cliffhanger isn’t strong enough for me to care.
Luckily I was able to read this book though KU, otherwise I wouldn’t spend money on it.

But again, the plot idea is interesting... follow though, definitely not.

The premise is what drew me in, but the writing is at a lower level than I like and there was little to no character development. The lack of character and plot development left me feeling that things were moving at an odd pace and that it wasn't even in the realm of realistic.

Yikes. This one was truly bad. It has a very chaotic reading style and it felt super cringey. Great idea for a book but the results were just weird. Needs a thorough edit honestly.

Interesting Story With Bad Writing

The story itself was interesting, & that is the only reason I finished this book. Not going to lie, it was a struggle. I don't enjoy giving bad reviews, but there is so much cringe in how this story was done.

First things first, this book really needed to be proofread before being published. There isn't a single chapter that isn't filled with grammatical and punctuation errors. That was already enough to drive me nuts, but then there was also a substantial amount of repetition followed by contradictory information.

The writing is chaotic and confusing, & the characters are manic. There were several scenes where an event was described as a current occurrence, but in the same paragraph or the next, it was made to sound like something that that happened in the past. There were points that felt as though several alternative versions of the story had been written out, & the final, published result was bits from all of them being copied and pasted together. Some paragraphs contained multiple (3-5) topics in one, & none of them were related to each other. Some things just felt thrown in. It wasn't good.

Unrelated to that, a reoccurring oddity was that there were sections of dialogue or a character's narration that were reminiscent of a period romance rather than a contemporary one. Why the author thought to have a modern day veteran randomly waxing poetic is beyond me. Same for a recent college graduate in their late twenties.

As far as supporting characters, they were pretty vapid and flat. So was their dialogue. Enough said.

Additionally, there is no character development whatsoever. One MC comes off as stalkerish and bratty the entire time while the other never really makes any progress as far as accepting his new reality. Even in the end, he gives in to the physical attraction and says what he wants but is still more or less spiraling by literally the last paragraph.

And to add insult to injury, a major disappointment was that the misguided sexist (for both genders), if not bigoted, views of the MCs (yep, plural) were left alone rather than using them as an opportunity for growth. Apparently men can't not be slobs, & women just can't handle things that men can. Really?

I was really hoping I would enjoy this read. I was excited to see how a concept like this would be laid out and was eager to see how the plot would develop, but obviously the final product left much to be desired. The story has potential but is in serious need of a rewrite.

Needs an editor

I try not to leave bad reviews, but this book frustrated me to no end. I have no idea how it's ranked so well.

This reads like a first draft to me. The book severely needs an editor.

Not only are the formatting and grammar off, there are inconsistencies to the story.

I read the book because I liked the concept and wanted to see what happened, but I won't be continuing the series.

**SPOILERS AHEAD**

Some of those inconsistencies include:
- the letters arrive during active duty (the sergeant reads one to his troops before a mission) but then it's said the letters are for the Wounded Warrior project (... the sergeant wasn't wounded when he first got letters)
- how long is this class? The letters are for a college class but the sergeant has been getting them for a year. I never had a college class last more than a few months
- the sergeant doesn't write back for a year, but the letter before he's wounded says "I’ll give you a kiss. It’s my secret to you, because if you were here beside me, my lips would whisper in your ear, I love you." How does it progress so far with no response?
- the sergeant says he received a Dear John letter from his wife at two different places, once while on active duty and then again while he's in the hospital  Then later, the text claims she texted him.
- the sergeant says that Holly "knows personal things" about him. How? He wrote back one time!
- the sergeant makes a big deal about how his brothers didn't visit him in the hospital but early in the story he specifically said didn't tell them because he didn't want them to know

There are other inconsistencies, but those are a few major ones.

There's no character development and Parker acts like a spoiled child.

The writing seems like stream of consciousness. Some parts are unnecessary and some parts are repeated.

I love the idea but this could have been written so much better. An editor could have really turned this around. I was very disappointed by this book.

I’m a bit conflicted about the story because on one side there is a HFN and the couple is together at the end, on another side the way Parker pursued Tony is a bit (or a lot) non con for me which make me unsure if I agree with him. But there is no rape or anything like that, don’t get me wrong 🙌🏼 It’s just that when someone tells you ‘NO’ the normal reaction is ‘OK I’ll try to move on’ but Parker doesn’t give a f*ck 🤔 He tries again and again.
However.. their interactions were hot and the result is great 😂 So I won’t complain.

For the understanding of couple’s situation: Tony thinks he’s straight but he is hot and bothered about Parker who is in love with Tony after only a few letters when Tony yet served in army. Parker saw a photo of Tony but Tony didn’t and T. thought all that time that those letters were from a woman (Holly). Tony is in a process of a divorce and goes home with disability and looking forward to seeing Holly (Parker) but when they meet there’s a spark but Parker doesn’t tell him yet that he is Holly 🙆🏻‍♀️
Soooo Tony is shocked at how he is reacting to Parker and trying to bail and here starts the game of catching Tony with all the dirty talk and eventually consensual activities 😅🔥

I was sure that it’s a standalone but it’s a trilogy. I’m not going to continue with the series but the beginning was interesting even though I wasn’t happy with characters (not only main couple), the acting was questionable for me.

Also Parker with the teacher at the beginning of the book was explicit and yuck 😬 TW: OM

Ok this series went from understanding to outright detestment. Lets break this down.. soldier is over seas on deployment and gets hurt. His wife bails. His family is not there. But who is Parker his pen pal. A guy. His soul mate connection.. ok, sucks u in..

Nope, his family dont approve. His wife wants hime back. Ok.. holding on.. u can have bi-awakening fear. But then there is say hurtful things, do hurtful things repeatedly. I mean over n over n over. To Parker. Now ur loosing me. He goes back to wifey. No attraction, but hey, she is pregnant to another man, but hey I will raise it. Still Parker is the doormat. Then oh, Tony is alone. I guess Parker is ok.. then finally they get together because 2 books of treating Parker like trash wasn't enough. Boom. Parker dead husband shows up. N Parker is the villian. No he wasn't married he was a widow. N after all the crap u did for last 2 books ur still on the moral high horse n Parker is still begging for scraps. This is afull review so ppl dont invest their time n money into such a mind f..k n waste. Have a bi awakening. Have a moment.. not months of shi..ing on ur partner. This is romance. I don't even want Parker to be wirh Tony. Tony is a selfish AH. He literally thinks about every single person on this planet before his partner n he can drown for all i care. Parker deserves a better family n partner. This series sucked

This is the first book in a new series and I thought that this was a great first book. Parker and Tony were great together. I loved the banter between these two. I thought that this was a great first time MM book and I can't wait to see what these two are up to in the next books. This book kind of ends on a cliffhanger and a HFN. I really enjoyed learning more about Parker and Tony. I really enjoyed Parker and is "Pitbull" ways when it came to his love and wanting of Tony. Parker is protective of Tony even though Tony keeps trying to put space between them. Tony has a lot to work through if he wants to keep the man that he has fallen for in his life. These two don't and won't have it easy but I can't to see what kind of drama that these two get into later. I would recommend this book and Sky as a great author.

I received a free e-book copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

I struggled with the editing in this book A LOT. The storyline was intriguing, which was why I picked this book up. I think it was okay? I saw opportunities for the author to take the tension/conflict in several directions that didn't happen. I ended up flipping through quite a lot, starting about 40% in. I hit key areas, so I genuinely can't offer either a good or bad review. I think the author and the story has a lot of potential, and would recommend giving them a try! I'll read the next book (saw a review saying the editing was much better in the second book) and perhaps come back to reread this one.

I would have to say that the one thing that bothered me most was the back and forth in the beginning of the book, with a confusing timeline. Perhaps I just need to make myself reread it.

Sky McCoy's books always deliver a good quality read. This first book in a series of three catches your interest right from the start. The main characters, Tony and Parker, grow together in an unsuspecting way. Both need each other, but Tony, a military man cannot come to grips with his new found thoughts. They story is about healing themselves both physically and emotionally. Parker, a typically, entitled college student starts to fall for Tony while impersonating a woman pen pal, eventually, the truth is revealed. I love both characters. Tony, a military man's man and Parker, a beautiful gay. This is book one of their story.
I read this book for a fair ARC review and look forward to reading the next in the series, Recovered Ink and Restored Ink.

This was not a book for me

This is just my personal opinion, this book may be just what someone else loves.

I was really interested in the book because of the description but it didn't live up to what I imagined it would be.
Parker wasn't very likable and is presented as a spoiled brat who just wants to sleep around and live on daddys money.
That combined with the sleeping with a teacher for grades and lying about bea female in the letters and he's not doing a very good first impression.

I made it past the woman in the bar that said she wouldn't date someone with a limp to the point of Tony asking Parker if he's gay because his home is clean.

Was ok. I loved Parker but Tony not so much because he was all over the place with his feelings. You're a grown man, own your feelings !!! Tony injured while on assignment in the military starts to receive letters from a pen pal named "Holly". Only to find out once back home the Holly is really Parker. You also meet Tony's cheating wife Serina and Tony's family who I don't understand is trying to get them back together!!! I mean WTF!!! Noah is the worst in my opinion. He never relayed the message to the others about Tony being injured so no one went to see him when he really needed his family. So there are ups and downs but ends with a HFN which I'm not a fan of.

NOT WHAT I EXPECTED

This is my first time dipping into a series by Sky McCoy. This is the introduction to this new series. Tony is a wounded soldier. He thought the military was his only option to provide for his wife and any future children. Parker is a wayward gay man who has no solid plan for his own future. This is a story that ends with a HFN. I'm buying book #2 now because I can't not know where these two land. I'm hoping Tony can come to terms with this side of himself. I'm praying Parker gets his HEA. I really enjoyed this Book. I liked the flow and Parker's outlook on the relationship he was trying to cultivate. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK IF YOU DON'T MIND A HFN.!!!!

Book one of trilogy

Tony is a marine serving overseas when he starts receiving letters from "Holly" which become very important to him when his wife sends him a dear john letter. Tony is wounded and the only thing keeping him struggling to get better is his need to finally meet his pen pal Holly. Holly turns out to be Parker, a young gay man who has fallen in love with Tony through their letters. Naturally Tony is shocked and angry but the rest of this book is about an uneasy truce to a HFN. I loved these guys and definitely want to continue through the next two books and you will too once you read this story.

I enjoyed this book, I genuinely did. But I know I enjoyed this book as someone who will develop a plot line and characters regardless of if all the information is given to me In the book. Unfortunately, there are a range of elements that were rushed and not enough small inconsequential moments that allowed us to get to know these characters and their perspectives more. The storyline was great however and I stand by the premise I just wish the author spent a little more time developing a deeper sense of engagement between their characters and their readers.

The one thing I truly disliked in this story is the reaction of other people. Otherwise I thought this story and storyline were superb. There is so much going on with our returning soldiers and this story only touches on a few. The wife leaving, the death of fellow soldiers and the scars both internally and externally. This book brings a renewed belief in love and relationships no matter the type. I look forward to reading the rest of Parker and Tony’s story and have already pre-ordered them!

Forced myself through it bc the premise was interesting butthe writing was awful. Repetitive and unrealistic, especially with people talking and texting in giant paragraphs- no one speaks like this. The characters were both kind of assholes, and new info was introduced about them late in the book that either would have been relevant earlier or didn't quite make sense with what we were already told. Really could have used some editing here.

This is a good book. Tony is a vet who was injured in the marines and gets a Dear John letter from his wife telling him she is leaving. But he starts receiving letters from Holly who is back in the states. Holly’s letters save him from being depressed and become a bright spot in his life. Tony an Holly agree to meet when he gets back to Tuscan. But will the two have secrets. Will Holly be what he needs and will Tony be what Holly needs? Will love be enough?

This was one of the most poorly written books that I have ever tried to read. The author needs to enroll in a writing class. Poorly organized thoughts, badly written sentences, and incorrect punctuation were glaringly obvious. In addition to those problems, the characters were uninteresting and poorly devloped. Was an editor or proofreader even consulted? I became so frustrated with the writing that I could not complete the book. Horrible, horrible writing.

Wounded Inked book one by sky McCoy. Loved the characters! I don’t really like cliffhangers. I read the end of this book and went to sleep. In my sleeping added a whole new ending to this book. My ending got really dark and then hand an HEA ending. Now I have to read the recast of the books to see what the real series ends like. Definitely a must read! I only add to the story in my sleep if I’m really into the characters and the storyline!

Better editing needed to get five stars

Loved the story. Loved Parker. Loved Tony. Loved the mix of sexy and sentimental. The only thing keeping me from giving a five star rating was the editing/proofreading. Every page, I had to stop to figure out who was speaking. One person's action was mixed in with the words of another -- all in one paragraph.

I started this book a while ago and I had to put it down after the first few chapters. Just couldn't connect to it.
I gave it another chance and I am glad I did. Tony's resistance to the attraction he was feeling and Parker's annoying pursuit of Tony had me chuckling a lot. I will continue with the rest of the series.

I enjoyed reading this book and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. Parker and Tony have interesting interactions. The story is different from others I have been reading and the author did a great job.
