Entering her second year of vet tech school, Ling is caught between her best friend and her long-time crush.
Ling wants nothing more than to tell Dakota how she feels, but she can’t risk upsetting the delicate balance of their friendship – until she discovers her best friend, Amber, is the third point in their love triangle.
When Ling and Dakota take a road trip to catch Dakota’s runaway cat back home, Amber invites herself along for the ride and from car snacks to road music, it’s clear the battle for Dakota’s heart is on.
I write stories that explore the thrills – and challenges – of falling in love as a woman-loving woman, including the bestselling Lakeside Hospital medical romance series and Rainbow Award honorable mention The Rules of Love.
My books are for you if you’re a fan of contemporary romance, if you love strong women who aren’t afraid to be vulnerable, and if you like a little heat with your sapphic love stories.

An incredibly sweet friends to lovers romance, with slow burn pining, a love triangle, cute cats, and wonderful navigation of complicated relationships.
Another marvelous addition to Malone’s low angst Fur-ever romance series. I love the characters and relationships built throughout this series, and all of the adorable furry friends that bring these characters together.
Falling for a friend can be such a messy situation. You don’t want to risk the friendship if something goes wrong, then you throw in a second friend and things can get really dicey. Malone does a really great job bringing this love triangle to a satisfying conclusion.
I loved the slow burn and pining that built throughout the story. Malone truly captures that first love experience. The romance felt youthful and sweet. I loved watching the romantic feelings blooming slowly from a sensual haircut to holding hands while watching movies. This story is probably the sweetest yet, with just a bit of spice.
The complicated family drama Dakota has to go through added another layer of drama that did a good job balancing out the story. Just the right level of drama while keeping the story light and fluffy, giving all the feels.
This story, at its core is a story of friendship. I loved the focus on friends and the love that is built off of that connection.
An all around fun and sweet read, featuring friends new and old. A fantastic addition to the Fur-ever romance series.
This is the 4th in the series but could be read as a stand alone. For me, I read the books as they were published so I had difficulty remembering the characters names.
Dakota is from a small town but is taking the two year vet tech course with Amber and Ling. The three amigos. Things go a bit sideways when both Amber and Ling start to have feelings for Dakota.
A crush that starts as friendship can only growfur-ever dtrong
Ling, Dakota and Amber have been friends for so long they are definitely a beautiful story of a great triangle. Amber and Ling want Dakota for a deeper understanding of love. Amber has different needs so watching them work it out was magical. The character were young college student but strong women. Dakota dealt with her folks and their struggles so wonderfully and with great love. The threesome trope caught me off guard but seem so right. Of course the cat lover in me loved the very special birth and how the love was centered around the cats. Cara Malone has not disappointed any as this was the sweetest fur-ever story. A must read that gives us a look at the cast of this series while bring Dakota and Ling together. Perfect, hot and oh so joyous.
I am thoroughly enjoying this whole series. The 3 main characters Ling, Dakota and Amber are best friends first an foremost. Ling and Amber share a secret crush on Dakota. Love triangles are never easy and it is handled very well in this story with low angst. All the main characters have issues they are dealing with. School, family and deciding to get involved in a polyamorous relationship. The story is so well written and all things are handled with love and care. The story does have it's steamier side as well. Cara never disappoints me with a well developed heartwarming storyline. I also love the way she incorporates the lead of the next story. Will Kiran finally get a HEA.
I received this book as ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This is a diverse book by Cara Malone. With the Three Amigos, two being in a relationship and the third in another with two other women. I greatly enjoyed it along with the rest of this series. Can't wait to read the last one.
This is book four of the Fur-ever Veterinary Romance series, and it is a low angst and very beautiful story.
As I mentioned before, one thing why I love this series is because all the characters are so endearing, and how they are interconnected, we met them in previous books and then we got to know their stories.
In this story, we get to know more about Ling and her two best friends, Dakota and Amber. They have a very strong friendship and have been friends for a very long time. But what happens when Ling and Amber are falling for Dakota? Will their friendship survive?
I absolutely loved this book, one of the things to admire about Cara’s ability to write, is she can turn a tough subject, in something light and delightful. This is very low angst, even when she addresses topics that aren’t easy to navigate, but she did it in a very amazing way. There’s a love triangle that was tread in a very interesting and fun way. I was surprised to see this trope mentioned in this series, but does perfect sense and is wonderfully written.
I liked very much how Ms Malone traversed through complicated family dynamics, and of course, something I enjoy so much in these books (besides the fluffy adorable furry friends) is the character development. We got the opportunity to enjoy a lot more this than in previous books. Another thing I loved and enjoyed greatly are the kittens, I love cats, so I was excited about this one.
This is a very insightful, beautiful story that I’d like to recommend. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
I received an ARC copy of the book from the author and voluntarily leaving my review.
This book in the Fur-ever Veterinary Romance series is a little lighter on the animals than the previous books, although there are some darn cute kitties. Instead, it focused more on all the people we've gotten to know previously and it was fun to catch up. All these women are connected through school or their veterinary practices and are a great group of friends. In the Cat's Meow, we learn more about the "three amigos," Ling, Amber and Dakota and their romances. Their road trip and overnight stay at Dakota's parents' house is a perfect starting point for the important subplot threaded throughout the story.
I love Cara. She's a very honest and tender writer who isn't afraid to write about some tough subjects, but she always handles them with dignity and respect. This story demonstrates how important loving friends are through tough times, as well as the fun, easy times. The study sessions with the trio brought me back to my old college days of cramming for tests, drinking way too much caffeine and sharing insecurities with good friends. So, how do these ladies get their HEAs? You have to read the book to find out! It's another winner from Cara Malone!!!
Let me start with saying that I’m not really a fan of love triangles; ever since I was forced to read “Terra Baixa” at school (one of the worst books I’ve ever read, DO NOT recommend 🤢🤮), I’ve been uncomfortable with love triangles. So obviously I started the book reluctantly, sure that I wouldn’t be able to give it more than a 3, which was awful because I love Malone’s books 😔.
So it comes as a total surprise –and delight– to be able to score this book with 4.25 😊. As always, well written and round characters, with both obvious and subtle evolutions throughout the story, engaging plot and once again, the cutest animals. This book had less of out little fur balls and more humans (I know, yuck 😜) but it was still amazing.
(Ms. Malone, if you’re reading this, while we appreciate more romance, don’t forget about out furry cuties! 🥰 🐰🦊🐶🐱... 🦅?)
Anyway, good book, entertaining read, and if you’re like me, and you don’t like love triangles, do give it a try: it’s not the usual love triangle.
This is a very low angst nice romance. All the other books in this series has focused on vets who are in their mid to late 30s. This book is about a younger group; Ling, Dakota and Amber, who are friends and in their last year of vet tech school. Ling has a crush on Amber but hasn't made a move for fear of messing up the three amigos friendship. But when Amber's attention goes elsewhere Ling is ready to move friendship to more. (This really isn't a love triangle story.) The cat in the story belongs to Amanda and ends up having kittens. The author tries to add more depth with a side issue about Amber's family but this isn't a complex book. It was an okay read, especially if you like cats. But the characters wont stand out or be memorable to me.
This book is very difficult to read. It’s dry and the conversations did not seem natural, a bit too corny and... feels quite “porn-y”. I find phrases like “panty-dampening” very mood-dampening. The characters’ behaviors are also inconsistent. There wasn’t really a love triangle despite what the description said. Well, at the start of the book yes, there seems to be, but this was not followed through. It disappeared like magic. I actually couldn’t bring myself to finish it.
A love triangle? Ms. Malone you threw me for a loop! Amber, Ling and Dakota have to come to grips with completing veterinary school, handling the pressures and expectations of family and romance. That pesky thing called love, misunderstanding, some bedroom heat, a pregnant cat aptly named Minerva and struggles to maintain their friendship triangle make for a quick read...but will it all result in a HEA. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
Ling, and her best friends, Dakota and Amber, are vet tech students working to get thru two years of torturous classes, labs and tests. Ling has a serious crush on Dakota and Amber is getting in the act with her own feelings for Dakota. Can three friends get this and remain together. A marvelous story and romance with great heated moments. Recommend series.
This book was a sequel to Puppy Love. The plot involves a trio of veterinary students Ling, Amber and Dakota with friends until Ling and Amber both had feelings for Dakota. The plot revolves their life along with ups and downs. It ius a great love story and I recommend it for all romance loves.I received this book as an ARC but my review is my own.
This book took me by surprise. I love Cara Malone's book and venturing on a three-way was new, but I really loved how she manage to write the characters as a love triangle. You have to read to know how everything unfolds between Ling-Dakota-Amber.
I can't believe we get another book in the series. I can't wait.

Three fur- loving friends try to survive vet school and each other.
Ling and Amber both think they love Dakota, maybe. But each of them are struggling in their own manner to survive Veterinary school. Insert a outdoor cat who finds itself pregnant and three vet students. Who ends loving Dakota and does Dakota the youngest one of them love them back? Enjoy!
This book was very well written with rich character development, and I love the veterinary themed series. I enjoy characters from previous books popping up in subsequent books in a series. That said, you can still read each as a stand alone without cliff hangers. Put this series on your must read list!
Uplifting coming of age story. I found this book enjoyable and one that brought back a lot of good memories. At first I thought it was a little “young” for me until I fondly remembered my youth. I will read the next in the series. This is what friendship and good mentoring is all about. Good job ! Btw, I’m 64 years old and work with animals.
First I enjoyed the familiar characters from the previous stories, then I was captured by the this stage of characters and there lives, with the twist and turns keeping me continuously wanting to read on. I gave this book a five star because it gave me everything I love about reading.
This is another great Fur-Ever book. Was a bit confused as all the kittens kept being talked about but I lost any sense of where mama cat ended up. Light romantic comedy but had some great serious themes.
Three stories in one. Dakota and Ling Amber and Timiraa and Laycee and we can't leave Minerva the cat out. The story started off a little slow even though the characters were at a carnival, but picked up pace later on. Recommended to all cat lovers too.
A very fun read. I loved everything about this. You can never go wrong when choosing to read a Cara Malone book. Can't wait for her next series to begin, because I will definitely be reading it.
It's not a bad book. That's why I'm giving it 3 stars, although I didn't like it. It was a bit too mushy for me, and the characters felt too young, my favourite was actually Amber and I wish the book had more of her in it. It's a great book for anyone interested in YA simple romances.
Its a brave new world. or rather my old world renewed; Couple.Throuple. The story is sweet, Vet Tech School study buddies, a pregnant cat. Parents to deal with. A four star only because I prefir more drama.
Very sweet story. Both Ling and Dakota seem made for each other, although I have to admit, I was rooting for them to enter into a throuple with Amber also. Cute story!
