I was an elf, but not a good one. I was too tall. My ears weren’t pointy enough. I couldn’t make toys. Basically, I was a failure.
I grew up with Nic and Holly—Santa and Mrs. Clause—and I suppose they had a soft spot for me. After being kicked out of every creative department at Santa Claus, Inc., Int’l., I was sent to the Special Case Unit. I was assigned a family going through a crisis—charged with bringing comfort and cheer to a special little girl who needed all of it she could get. I didn’t expect to meet a wonderful human man who appeared to have the weight of the world on his broad shoulders, and I certainly didn’t expect I’d want to help him carry it. The case was difficult, but I was dedicated. I definitely didn’t anticipate falling in love along the way, though.
Trick McNichol
Going into the holiday season with a sick daughter was as heartbreaking as it sounded. My little girl, Danielle, had been diagnosed with a dangerous disease, and the treatment was doubly as harsh. In my world, there were no silver linings—until Jinson Bell, a nursing assistant, walked into Dani’s room and gave her something to smile about. He also gave me friendship as I faced my worst fears. He was kind, adorable, much younger than me, and he had a sweet tooth like none I’d ever seen. He knew what we needed before we needed it, and it was easy to fall in love with him. It wasn’t the best timing in the world, but he was there when I needed someone to lean on. When he laughed, it was like bells were ringing, and while I wasn’t sure how I’d do it—he was only at the hospital temporarily for training—I had to find a way to make him mine.
I grew up in the rural Midwest before moving to the East Coast with a dashing young man who swept me off my feet, and we've now settled in the desert of Nevada. I write M/M contemporary romance, subgenres: sweet low angst, age-gap, cowboys, mysteries, and military/mercenary to name a few. I am a firm believer in "Love is Love" regardless of how it presents itself, and I'm a staunch ally of the LGBTQIA+ community.
I have a loving, supportive family, and I feel blessed by the universe and thankful every day for all I have been given. I’m old enough to know how to have fun, but too old to care what others think about my definition of a good time. In my heart and soul, I believe I hit the cosmic jackpot. Cheers!
Sweet but heartbreaking. The relationship between Jingle and Trick was sweet, but my favourite parts were Jingle doting on Dani and keeping her happy with Larry stories, as well as his relationship with Nic, Holly, Ivy and Kringle. I really liked the epilogue.

There were some things I really liked about the novel: the premise, a Christmas elf sent to work "special cases" and tasked with helping a young girl with leukemia and her single Dad, is sweet, poignant, and perfect for a holiday story. The backstory and world building for the elves was detailed and creative. The writing style didn't always live up to the content however (more telling than showing), and the pacing felt a bit rushed at times and laggy in others. I also really didn't love the way Trick is pressured to "make amends" with his homophobic parents-- it might work with the idea of holiday forgiveness, but it read to me as an insensitive take on a complicated issue: some family relationships really aren't meant to be rebuilt, Christmas or no, and it should never be a choice someone else makes for you. Overall, however, this is a quick, fun read.

Ok. I have just opened the e-book and already I have to give a big shout out to Arden O'Keefe and that fabulous cover page.
A verse that had always touched me when I was a child went, "no greater love hath he, than a man who would lay down his life for a stranger." Jingle Bell was not only cheerful, and half elf, he was the perfect person to complete Trick McNichol's life. The landscaper was going through his own hell with an ill daughter, but Jingle changed their dynamic. He was a sounding board for Trick, the perfect friend for Danielle and his heart knew no bounds. For Trick, meeting Jinson AKA Jingle, was like coming to a fork in the road...he either went left or right. He chose the path that led him to happiness, but still left him in a conundrum. When Dani's life is left in the balance, Jingle made a serious call that would effect everyone's lives, including his adoptive parents.
When does selflessness become love? This story packed a punch and it taught the joys of a stranger's touch, the value of caring more about others than yourself and to always believe that anything was possible when magic was on your side.
Jingle is an elf that doesn't quite fit in. Sent to the human world to help, he meets single father, Trick, and his adopted daughter, Dani, who has just been diagnosed with leukemia. Jin is there as a nursing student and in the process falls in love with this little family.
I'm giving this a 3.5* star rating because, honestly, it was all over the place. The author should have taken the time to develop this into a longer book, but instead, tried to jam too much into a shorter work. The book starts out ok but once Jin is in the human world the pace is chaotic and there are far too many inconsistencies. Trick's attraction to Jin goes beyond instalove and feels very forced - especially for a man faced with the prospect of losing his child. No one questions when Jin uses phrases about what "humans" do and the elf magic is entirely too convenient and over-the-top. The relationship with Santa and Mrs Claus is bipolar and just adds added angst without any real purpose. The estranged parents and all is just pushed into a happy resolution, but we are cheated of the entire process. In short, it was a bit of a train wreck and I was sorely disappointed. I did finish it but I admit to speed reading through the last 30%, just to get to the end, and find an entirely WTF epilogue. Not at all thrilled with this book.
I had looked forward to this installment in the series. I'd gotten a free preview of this book just before the Elves After Dark series launched and I liked it, so I was sure this would help save the series for me.
It didn't.
While Jingle, Trick and Dani are a cute little family, their story falls into the same trap so many others in this series have. An overloading of subplots for the novella length story, a failure to balance tone and find a single theme to focus on and an excessive amount of drama thrown in just to magically be fixed by the wonder of Christmas. Jingle being assigned to oversee Dani's special case then falling in love with her father was more than enough story to tell on its own. There's just too much focus on Jingle's origins, his relationship with Nic and Holly and Trick's relationship with his parents. A lot of issues raised here are serious and sensitive, deserving of better treatment to make any point or message come across, but they're just thrown in here like here's a bad thing and voila, it's all better! Nothing really solved, just swept under the rug so that it doesn't disturb the illusion of a Hallmark Holiday romcom happily every after.
Mc is pressured from all sides to reconcile with homophobic and racist family members but the author disguises it as something done for wholesome holiday spirit. Some characters have more info about it that might make it reasonable and acceptable but much of that is used to pressure someone on the spot rather than work through it in any other way. The situation could have been healthy but was written in a quick and lazy way. The pacing is all over the place though the copy i read is noted as being fully revised.
The story would be cute if it was not pressuring someone to just ignore past traumas for the sake of 'holiday spirit'.
I liked most of this story, it was sweet and the characters were more than likeable but I had a lot of trouble with how the last quarter of the story was written. Its too bad, this could have been a great story.
TAGS -- Holiday/Christmas -- fantasy -- elf/human pairing -- age difference (14 years) -- great premise -- very sweet -- slow burn -- made me smile -- made me teary -- some angst -- likeable MCs... Jin & Trick -- very sweet little girl... Dani -- could have been a winner
I loved the story, even though it dealt with the painful topic of cancer and a child dealing with chemo. The characters, especially the Claus's, were humorous and fully fleshed out. The romance between Jingle and the child's father was sweet.
The ending was inspired...Santa just couldn't help himself and hopefully it helped both he and Mrs. Claus, deal with the loss of their 'son's' presence in their daily lives.
This book needs some writing revision. There's way to much inner monologue, the conversations are stilted and awkward, and there is a whole bunch of backstory that could have been handled concisely through normal conversation instead of paragraph after paragraph to fill the reader in on the situation. There's also a bunch of "why me" angst. Over all, I was terribly glad it was so short and relieved to reach the ending.
I loved this book so much! The characters were perfect. The storyline was sweet and tragic and sweeter still. I laughed and I cried. My heart rejoiced and my heart ached. This was truly one of the best books I have ever read.
Dang it you made me cry. Such a wonderful story well written and full of love and hope. I loved this book. Jingle Bell was so sweet and lovable I got my HEA and still believe in Santa!!!
This is a sweet and lovely holiday story. Jingle is adorable and Trick and Dani lovely and I loved this short but wonderful story with its happy ending. A great read.
Jingle just doesn’t fit in at the North Pole. He certainly tries, but nothing sticks. When Santa decides to put him in the human world, he finally finds his footing. A wonderful holiday story full of love. Highly Recommended
This one had me in tears. I hated what Dani had to endure. And Jingle, that had me scared for him. I loved the author’s take on Santa and the ending was perfect.
This is book #7 in the Elves after Dark series. It is the first book that I have read by this author or in this series. After reading this, I want to read them all now. This is a short and sweet story. Jingle Bell is an elf that is having trouble finding his niche. He keeps being moved from section to section and his morale keeps falling lower and lower. He really wants to do a good job and has a great big heart full of love and happiness. Because of those main qualities he is assigned to help a family in need of joy. Trick McNichol is a single father of Danielle. They have just received the most crushing news. Danielle is diagnosed with leukemia. Trick is alone except for his sister and brother in law. Once he came out as a gay man adopting a daughter, his father disowned him and his mother went along with it. They have completely cut off contact.
Jingle and his big heart are right on the job. He starts to help Danielle feel better while undergoing treatment. He also is trying to help the father Trick as well. Jingle keep checking his operating manual to see what he is allowed to do and what is forbidden. Seeing that bringing the family back together as a support base is allowed, that is what Jingle sets out to do.
I really liked the interaction between the main characters. Jingle's action shine like a bright star, showing everyone how big his capacity to love is. I enjoyed this book but that is not to say that I didn't need a tissue or two while reading. We should all strive to show the compassion and love that Jingle does in our everyday life.
This is a heart warming Christmas Story. You will not be disappointed.

My Jingle Bell Heart is Book 7 in the Elves After Dark series and it's a wonderful addition to a great series. Jingle is an elf but not a very good one. He screws up at making toys and isn't elf enough. Jingle was adopted by Santa and Mrs. Clause. After he gets kicked out of every creative department, he is assigned to the Special Unit. He is assigned to a 5-year-old girl who is sick and her father.
t. I didn’t expect to meet a wonderful human man who appeared to have the weight of the world on his broad shoulders, and I certainly didn’t expect I’d want to help him carry it. The case was difficult, but I was dedicated. I definitely didn’t anticipate falling in love along the way, though. His duty is to be a comfort to the girl and help her during her difficult time. He didn't expect to fall in love with her father.
Trick McNichol's daughter, Danielle, has leukemia and needs all the holiday magic this season. He meets Jin, the nursing assistant, at the hospital where Danielle is getting chemo. Jin makes Danielle and Trick feel better with his stories and holiday cheer. He slowly starts to fall in love with the happy, cheerful nursing assistant who has a special place in his daughter's heart. As they fall in love, Jin makes a decision for the good of the family. His decision was a surprise, but the ending made it perfect. It was a wonderful HEA for the entire family :) Loved this book and it's a wonderful series overall :)
We have this image about elves but Jingle Bell did not fit any of the traditional criteria. He felt like a failure in every elf way; not able to make toys, too tall, and the ears weren't right. Creativity just wasn't his niche. Being assigned to another unit may have looked like another opportunity to fail, but this assignment was different, very different. He was trusted to help a family. Could he give comfort and cheer to others while still doubting himself?
Trick McNichol had a daughter, Danielle, who needed all the cheer she could get. His little girl was sick and trying to stay happy for her wasn't easy. What they both needed was he right person to bring the seasonal magic. Not having anyone to lean on when the walls felt as though they were closing in was the worst feeling in the world. A little elfin magic will soon come int he form of a nursing assistant.
Fate brought Trick, Dani and Jin together. Dani was smiling, Trick had a reason to smile and Jin found he loved this. What happens when love intervenes? Can holiday magic make this the perfect, permanent family?
Adorably sweet addition for my 2020 holiday romance library. I hope to read the entire "Elves After Dark" series.

This is book 7 in the multi-author series but can be enjoyed as a standalone.
This is an adorable holiday romance between one elf who works as a nursing assistant and a human man whose darling daughter is sick.
Trick knows there is something special about the new nursing assistant. For one he gives Dani a reason to smile and surprisingly it isn't difficult falling head over heels for him and his beautiful laugh either.
Can Trick find a way to keep the man he is fast falling? As the snow falls and the bells jingle, will the magic of Christmas help Jin find a family of his own?
This was the sweetest Christmas holiday romance. Jin and Trick were absolutely adorable and I loved the setting of this story. The writing was fun and enjoyable.
I absolutely recommend this if you want to be swept up in the holiday cheer and enjoy a sweet found family romance with heart and all the feels.
I absolutely loved the Christmas theme running through here, names and places just total cuteness. Jingle was an absolute delight and adorable with how he spoke, his love for people he holds dear was utterly heart warming. Trick was a doting father and was the perfect amount of caring and angsty. Poor Dani was certainly put through the ringer but I am so glad that she got to hold her special memories close to her. a festive tale of hope and what you would sacrifice for loved ones. That ending had me in pieces and ready to rail at the author and I was in tears from the emotional wallop I got but the utter relief I felt was indescribable when I finished the last page. A true Christmas miracle and deservedly so for everyone, so many stars for this story if I could, just gives you the warmest feelings, one of the best Christmas stories I have read so far. Also fangirled over appearances by characters from another book by this author.
5 Stars - MM – Age Gap - Hurt/Comfort – Fairy Tale –HEA
Elves After Dark Series Book 7 – Multi-author – Standalone
My Jingle Bell Heart is a charming story about a bumbling elf assigned to bring comfort to a little girl who is ill and, in the process, falls in love.
Dani is in the hospital suffering from a dangerous disease. Her dad Trick is distraught, and it breaks his heart to see his daughter so sick. In walks Jin, the new nursing assistant, and everything changes. Jin brings laughter and joy to their lives and Trick is soon falling in love.
Sigh … This is a truly a feel-good holiday story. I recommend giving it a read!
*Thank you for Advance Reader’s Copy. I am happy to leave my voluntary review.
This was a cute little holiday m/m romance. The characters were unique and the plot was super sweet. All the holiday references with characters' names were quite amusing. I did find it hard to keep most of the side characters straight. I also felt that more could have been done when the reentrance of one of the character’s parents into their life. It was kinda flat after everything that happened between them. The idea behind the plot was very sweet and adorable.
I give this a four out of five stars. It was a sweet m/m holiday romance with an adorable premise for the plot. The main characters were sweet and real. I did have some problems keeping the side characters straight.

This is the first book that I have read in this series and It’s a fun little bon bon of a story. I love when authors decide on a world and then all write stories for it. While the situation in this book is very sad as the little girl Danielle is deathly ill, the way that the story is written is very light and fun and it is obvious that there is no way that she won’t survive. This book is firmly rooted in fantasy but it does have a serious message and I found that the serious and fun elements were written in a very balanced and respectful way. I enjoyed reading this book a lot.

I loved Jingle and Trick!! Jingle Bell doesn’t feel he’s a very good elf. I loved his kindness and selflessness! Trick was a single dad trying to provide for his sick daughter Danielle. Jin is sent to the work at the hospital where Danielle is staying. In turn he is to bring comfort to a sick child, but he also falls in love. This was a wonderful heartwarming story about selflessness and love! I’m voluntarily reviewing from an advanced copy I received. This was solely based on my honest thoughts and views.
Jingle is so sweet and has had the hardest time finding his niche, just when he does he falls in love and is willing to give everything up for them. Trick loves his daughter and the life he has built but Jin brings them so much laughter and joy and his daughter is jsut too sweet for words. I liked the romance between these two and how much of a rock Jingle was for Trick when he needed it. It was even better that Nic was able to find a way for them to be together but to allow Jingle to find the happiness he deserves.

This holiday romance will most definitely pull at your heartstrings. Half elf and half human Jingle doesn't entirely fit in with the other elves at the North Pole. He is assigned to a family in the human world. He meets Trick and his daughter Dani and falls in love with them. So there my fellow readers where all the holiday magic begins. From tragedy to a lovely outcome for Jingle and his family. Very nice holiday story to put anybody in good spirits.
