Trencher's Bunker

Rate this book
Our global elite secure their survival well before the common people know a thing.Marcus Trencher, a brilliant but reclusive tech industrialist, is brought in to design massive superbunkers for this privileged class. In exchange for his talents, he only asks to oversee construction of one his own. It becomes nothing short of a subterranean palace. His life underground was to be comfortable above all else.Near the doomsday deadline, he sends his closest friend Henry Plyman to recruit desirables to join them. Plyman believes he is filling vital roles to service a population of hundreds, if not thousands. That isn’t exactly the case.Unlike Plyman, Timothy Spencer refuses any part of Trencher’s plan.Spencer secures a bunker bid, but elsewhere, and nowhere near as luxurious. He mines coal and subsists on a soy-based protein drink. His wife is depressed and his children grow ill. He cannot shake the sense that Trencher has a presence in his miserable new home, and he begins to investigate. It becomes a tale of two bunkers – one for the haves, and one for the have-nots.Conspiracy runs deep. Truth tends to surface.

One of the best I've read!

This is one of the best dystopian books I have read, and I've read a lot! I could lot put it down from the first page. It speaks to people from small towns and from big cities, from the wealthy to the less fortunate, from the highly educated to the high school drop out. I look forward to more books from this author. I'm also proud to be from the same home town.

Twists and turns abound in this apocalyptic thriller. This excellent first novel from author Shane Noble delves into life before and after a doomsday meteor hits earth, investigating the struggles one faces in such a situation. Excellent character development as the main players grapple with their own feelings and moral issues, finding things aren’t as one-sided as they seem.

The asteroid will hit on a certain date. Very deep bunkers are being built, and some people will get to live in them. Food has been created , from ingredients grown in those deep bunkers, that will last for decades. Coal seams located near the bunkers will be mined for their power generation.
The asteroid hit, and at least one bunker survives the impact.
But something just isn't right.

Highly recommend! I read this in less than 2 days time because I couldn’t put it down. Being from the same hometown as the author, it was fun to see little landmarks from home sprinkled in. I cannot wait to read more books from Shane in the future!

Good story. Poor editing.

The story is good. However, the editing is not so good. There are a lot of missing words. I hope the author fixes it.

Bonkers.

Begins with a genius billionaire & a bunker for his bros & a small hand-picked group of random people to avoid an extinction-level asteroid impact. Ends with a diabolical global conspiracy by Them to exterminate most of the human race & reverse-engineer the environment to save the planet. The asteroid was a hoax in order to get most people into underground bunkers to gas them. Those left on the surface (not the chosen Elect of Them, or the poor murdered) are presumably going to be hunted down by a fleet of killer drones. Or just left to freeze/starve as They have initiated a new ice age to regrow the polar icecaps thru chemicals pumped into atmosphere & giant orbital sun shades. In between the genius/savior/devil goes postal on his own people in the bunker & runs down a long tunnel to Bloomington IN, just as the population of unwittingly enslaved common people mining coal in a connected gulag-bunker next door that provides power for the Elect bunker break through the ruse, literally. The only thing missing was the “Soylent green is people!” twist—but author did call the cockroach mush the enslaved eat “Soylent.” So…he’s aware.

The level of insanity in this is off the charts… And can’t tell what I was supposed to feel for these characters, most of whom vacillate between amoral & ridiculous. Got nervous because author seemingly trying to make Trencher sympathetic…or it was just half-baked character development. Author says thanks for reading his first book at the end & there’s a photo—I felt compassion then tho the book was pretty terrible.
