What Goes on Tour #1

What Goes On Tour: A love triangle romantic comedy

Rate this book
What if one night before a tour could change everything? It's the summer of 1996 and I, Sharon 'Shaz' Green, am living the dream, leading coach tours in Europe. I have also met my future husband, fellow tour manager, Roger. He just doesn't know it yet. For the next month, I will be crossing paths with Roger all over Europe. This would be fantastic news if he wasn't working with Skipper. I accidentally had sex with Skipper a couple of nights ago. Yes, that is possible. Can I manage to woo Roger, while fending off Skipper, at the same time as being very professional and leading my flock of tourists around Europe? Time - and travel - will tell.

What Goes On Tour is a light-hearted, fun romantic comedy. Fans of Bridget Jones will love this. If you've ever been on a coach tour of Europe you won't want to miss this fun read. Grab your copy now!

What a wonderful trip down memory lane. This is a throwback to what group travel was like before the arrival of cell phones, Twitter, and MP3 players changed the world forever. It is a fun read about the main character's challenges leading a group of young people on a 26-day multi-country tour of Europe while simultaneously trying to convince the love of her life that she is the one. It has been over 50 years since "If It's Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium" was produced ... it was worth the wait.

What Goes On Tour
By Gillian Scott

I have never been on a coach tour of Europe or taken any Contiki tour before but I feel like I have had a glimpse into what that would have been like after reading this book.

I found the characters so endearing, I really wanted ‘Shaz” to find happiness. I rooted for the loveable, if not timely Skipper, and enjoyed the flirtatious exploits of Roger. I love reading about the scenery, fashion, music and feelings, I completely related to them all. It felt like a time from my past was being revealed again and previously forgotten details and feelings uncovered and enjoyed all over again. The story of the characters as they traveled around Europe was so well told, I involuntarily snorted out loud with laughter at some of poor ‘Shaza’s escapades.

This was a brilliant book to read. I thoroughly enjoyed it from cover to cover and would recommend it to anyone. Especially if you enjoy a little giggle in your day.

Fantastic! I blame this book entirely for my lack of sleep over the last few nights as I read it on my Kindle till 3am - waking my hubby up with a few out-loud giggles, snorts n' chuckles along the way. Totally recommend 'What Goes On Tour' by Gillian Scott to all travel lovers, budget coach trippers and tour guides who did their big OE (overseas experience) in the 80's-90's. The descriptions of a lot of the locations, fashion, music and mishaps took me back 30 years to my own OE, as did the 'Bridget Jones-like' embarrassing moments! I thoroughly recommend to everyone (but mostly girls who like some good 'Chick-Lit' as a great holiday read that many will relate to. I am impressed that this was Gillian Scott's first novel and I can't wait for the next book!

Having never been on a Contiki Tour back in the 90's but hearing a lot about them, What Goes on Tour was a fun way to vicariously experience the challenge and adventure of travelling through Europe with a group of complete strangers. The author's writing evoked vivid images and insights about places across Europe and offered an inside view of the life of tour managers and drivers and the relationships that are formed under unusual and at times, trying circumstances. Great way to take an imaginary holiday in the midst of a global pandemic!

This is a book you will not want to put down! If you need a bit of laugh at the end of the day, Shaz (the main character) will not disappoint. We were all 20 (even 30!) once and did some silly stuff - some of us even survived to tell the tale... Thank you to the author for a mirror I didn’t know I wanted to see so much!

What a fabulous holiday read!! Thoroughly enjoyed reading this light-hearted fun novel that i could really relate to. If you have ever done a Contiki, travelled Europe in the 80s-90s many things will resonate with you. Even if you are just a Kiwi - many things in this novel will tickle your fancy! Highly recommend!!

What a fabulous read! This had me laughing, crying, and feeling all the feels as it took me back to my own adventures of Europe. Shaz is such a relatable character and I'm really hoping there's a second book coming about her next adventure! I'm not much of a reader but this book was hard to put down!

A light-hearted and somewhat cheeky read! Felt transported in both time and destination to places close to my heart.
I felt as though I was sitting on the front step of the coach the whole way around Europe.
Would love to read the same story from the perspective of one of the passengers !!
Well done Gillian. You nailed it.

I absolutely adored this book and can not wait for the next in the series. As an ex tour guide myself and through the countries that Shaz travels the attention detail by the author is impeccable. Great humour and believable characters. Fantastic and highly recommended.

Took a bit to get used to the style of writing - very Bridget Jones-esk. It was a nice trip back through many places in Europe. Bit predictable in spots.

This is a good holiday read which is especially appealing in these times of limited travel opportunities. It made me nostalgic for visiting some of the places the tour group settings. Gillian writes with humour and skill rather like Bridgit Jones diary. I laughed at some of the well described situations the main character gets herself in.

I DNF. I'm so tired of these books where the female main is trifling, lazy, irresponsible or a combo of any of those things. I don't find it cute or funny and wish this trend would end. I should've known when the book starts with the main having unprotected sex with a random and trying to act coy about asking for a Plan B. No thanks.

Enjoyable romp on a bus tour through Europe. Shaz, the tour guide and Fitzy, the coach driver, guide their flock around the best sites and bars! Lots of drinking, lots of sex….the usual reality of the bus tour really. Parts are laugh out loud.
