The Exception: A Billionaire Sports Romance

Rate this book
Tangling with the new club owner was never going to end well... My favorite romance novels lied. There was no meet-cute, no inner spark of recognition. He called me into his office, slashed me into a thousand pieces with a cutting tongue, and announced the I would be thrown out like trash. Cold, arrogant, and drop-dead gorgeous, Alexander Sterling was football royalty. Me? Not only was I broke, I couldn’t even get into my team. And I was trying. I had six months to change his mind and battle for a place in the squad. I was up for any challenge Alex could throw at me .... except for the powerful surge of attraction I felt any time he so much as glanced my way. Worse? I was pretty sure the feeling was mutual. And unwelcome. But our bodies had other ideas. We decided on one night to burn the desires from our systems. It was supposed to be one night. Over and done with. Or was it?

Ok

The story had good bones, however it felt flat towards the end. First of all, it was too rushed at the end. Too little about Rachel’s career success. I wish Rachel was more emotionally mature. She seemed to get overwhelmed very easily, making hard to believe that Alex and her could be evenly yoked. I didnt like tge almost flippant way in which forgiveness was expected. Im sorry Anna was sick but that doesnt mean that Rachel had to forgive or if she did that she wanted to be present in her lofe. Same for her mother. Rachel and Alex didn’t get together until 72%, then instead of concentrating on their relationship, the book got lost between Alex’s issues and Rachel’s childhood issues. To think that Alex would pay money before finding out to whom it was exactly is laughable. Then he would somehow loose the locker room because of Dawson really? As a “killer “ you would expect that he would have annihilated Dawson before he could become a problem. In the context of the me too movement, I’m sure he would have found women ready to step forward. Even Rachel if it was needed considering all Alex had done for her. Their relationship would have been more balanced that way.

While the premise of the story was good, it was taken away by what felt like missing chunks of detail and spelling / grammatical errors.
