Rate this book
Others may get picked first at the Easter egg hunt, but Egg has sparkle on the outside, confidence on the inside, and the patience to wait for his perfect kid. This glittery, rhyming book includes sheets of egg-decorating stickers.

The big Easter egg hunt may be a time to hide, but Egg wants to stand out! Bedazzled in glitter, and fancied up for his big rendezvous with the perfect kid, Egg knows deep down in his yolk that a special friendship is about to be hatched with the kid who will see him for him. This perfect Easter basket stuffer features rhyming text, colorful illustrations, a sparkly cover, and egg-decorating stickers.

Curriculum Connections: rhyming, believe in yourself, Easter
Note: celebrates nonconformity (gender and otherwise)

Is it Cynthia Platt or the Easter theme that necessitates all the sparkles? This book comes with stickers--something a librarian will have to remove before circulating!

This story looks at nonconformity in a positive light. Egg is decorated in a hodge-podge manner with sparkles and bright colors. The rest of the eggs are traditionally decorated in pastels. Egg's friends worry about Egg not being selected and call to it not to be left behind. Egg isn't worried, happy to wait for the perfect match.

The rhymes are sometimes forced. Pre-reading is necessary to hit them all on the beat. My favorite rhymes are finesse:never less and glue:rendezvous.

Overall, the message is an important one, the illustrations are bright and compelling (especially for young readers), but the text is awkward.
